  • Good run bro *Thumbs up

Shift abit faster next time ;)

  • hey bro got the exact same car. There fkn sweet ay. Have you modded yours? also whn do u shift? looks like max power?

  • @kiwiryannz It's my ex's and it's 100% dead stock. Shifting was best RIGHT on the rev cut at 8k, a fraction of a second late and you lost time from the limiter, any earlier and you lost potential power.

  • my brother has a bzr levin and it had done 400,000km + when he bought it, and it still goes harder then ever. living proof that toyotas never die

  • at 0:21 does some crying little b**ch say "man your gonna get busted" in a really nerdy nagging kill-joy wet blanket spoilsport wussy way??

  • @reilly972008 Yep, but it was 3pm on a crowded motorway at 1.7x the speed limit, so I'd consider the comment fairly reasonable :-) Busted wasn't really an issue, but a lane changer getting killed was. I let off and braked when I ran out of room in the left lane which was miraculously clear for the duration of the video.

  • Wish they weren't speed limited =(

  • @theherozero07 It didn't matter, I ran out of room! :-) Also, it's a one-wire fix ;-)

  • @fredio54 one-wire fix? tell me! I guess unplugging the speed sensor would do that, but then it would put it in limp mode.

  • @astroboyracer247 Mate, it's been so long, I really don't remember. I never actually did the mod, however I do recall researching it and being confident of it working. I did do the fix to my skyline, but that thing didn't really need the fix, it struggled to go faster than that anyway :-) I miss the skyline, though, such a good car.

  • well it's more like 30-170kmh haha

  • @nzfilmsdotcom you have a point! This is extremely unusual for youtube commenters! The run itself was from a stop, but the video is, as you point out, not! Well spotted, I never even noticed.

  • @fredio54 haha no problem, I'm surprised no one had noticed! I think it's because the sound kicks off after about 0.5 seconds (:

  • i expected more from this car, pretty sure its about the same speed, if not then slower than my old EP82...anyways! they r nice motors but il downsize to another toyota i think, but not this one!

  • @Imreadingthisaloud It's a dead stock corolla with a 1.6 litre engine, owned by a girl, that makes 165 metric horsepower and runs low 15 second passes at the strip. It is what it is, and that is what it is, if that ain't good enough for you, OK, but to expect magic from a setup is unreasonable.

  • @fredio54 I aint knocking the 4age at all, its a great engine, but I expected a little more from it in this format that was all, id heard good things! I dont think i was being unreasonable, merely expressed the little dissapointment i felt after hearing such hype.

  • @Imreadingthisaloud it keeps up with type r tegs, what else do you want from a girls car. I'd say that it was unreasonable to expect anything to meet the hype that you've heard. Do you, by chance, still believe in Santa Claus?

  • @fredio54 Chill winston! its a nice car, u cant help its mediocrity. Id rather an AE1 than a DC, but id rather an EP than a AE1. I love toyotas ive owned many, but I just think this setup is over estimated compared to others, so relax, aim ur hatred elsewhere and take the compliments without attempting personal attacks for no reason, i never said i expected 'magic'...

  • 4age are only 1600 but still have the power to beat alot of cars oh Toyota watta felling

  • got to love the 4age 20v induction noise :) can't wait for my blacktop to go into my seca!

  • oh dis stronger den the bzr?

  • @DwarfGuy1

Same engine, same running gear (depending on factory options) just 6spd/5spd and facelift/prefacelift mainly. I think the brakes may be different. But overall they should be the same. Give or take driver skill. The 5 speed is stronger than the 6 speed though due to toyota just putting an extra gear into the 5spd gearbox

  • nice man i love levins such a better looking and i think sounding car then any civic great video man

  • i drive barefoot too :)

  • @danielligocenzo Good man, it's the best way unless your feet are numb or slippery.

  • Comment removed

  • @utubenz576 although I agree with you, mostly, it's a fine vehicle, and, your English isn't correct. Even if I ignore the text speak, which I despise.

  • wow a truck wtf man trucks are for farmers i got a levin and it looks a whole lot better than some stupid mud bucket cattle carrier!!! Moron!!!

  • @tailzklangzim101 well, look at that, not only do you have zero uploads, you probably also don't even have a drivers license, let alone a car, and definitely not a hand built custom car. Why don't you crawl back into the dark damp hole that you came out of and rot there. If you like, I can pour some gasoline down the hole and throw a match at it for you. Just let me know.

  • dis standard?

  • @DwarfGuy1 Yep, sure is.

  • can dis give h22a a race?

  • @DwarfGuy1 not a hope wud it stand a chance in a straight line but on a twisty road it would be a close one !

  • ok, about 1second slower than my SR20....not bad for a 1600 crap

  • @kendconcerto In which chell do you *think* your STOCK sr20 is quicker? None that I have driven or ridden in! Oh, wait, "custom built" and still not actually faster yt = dxPKWrIEu-c

The nice thing about not owning an sr20 is that your engine is likely to be reliable ;-)

  • 1600 got NO chance to beat a 2000cc my friend. 1600cc are build for kids, not hard core.

Unless you 4AGE can churn out 162nm torque at 2800rpm and 182nm torque at 4000rpm, 4AGE still a loooooooooong way to go.

Ofcoz solution is supercharge or turbo...hehe

BIGGER DISPLACEMENT WINS, not VVTI or craps

  • @kendconcerto You clearly do not understand anything about power, torque and vehicle performance. Go away.

  • who said my sr20 is stock, its already blue printed

  • @kendconcerto LOL, you do not understand what blue printing is, either.

  • @fredio54

Yeah, you're right. I been dyno tuning my car all my life and YOU understand more than I do.

    God bless ya !

  • @kendconcerto There is no god, again, go away. Also, check out the 400hp truck in the other vids, it'd thump your nissan any day, and be more reliable to boot. Enjoy your cam lube tubes, bad rod ratio, small weak failure prone big end bearings, small thin weak bendable rods and rockers that like to eject themselves, won't you ;-)

  • @fredio54

    YOUR truck ?

  • @kendconcerto Yes, my truck, built with my bare hands, I do actually know what I'm talking about ;-)

  • @fredio54

    Ok cool, video plz

  • @fredio54

Thanks but I already have rocker protectors :D

  • @kendconcerto yeah your sr20 must be crap then.....

  • @dumfer

Yeah, its a crap and it does 7 seconds to 100kph as a 1200kg sedan.

    Thanks alot :D

  • vtec just kicked in yo

  • bit sluggish in 4th but 4-age best 1600 ever!!

  • @dumfer it was my girlfriend's car, dead stock, 2 up. I reckon it's pretty nippy for what it is, "just a corolla".

  • the best engine sound ever

  • go levins!!

  • Damn, that engine sounds sweet. You gotta love the 4A's.^^

  • this car needs to come to america

  • yeah, i'm tired of honda civics, we need somethin new.

  • dont yous alwedy have cars? but i do liek me some blacktop

  • yeah u don't get that sound from a honda... and definitely no VTEC kicked in yo there... it's pure quad throttles and high revs with a hint of VVT in the midrange... I say this just pure music to your ears...

  • 9.. i'm getting 8700

  • nice run, but u could have gone a lot faster, ive hit about ruffly 230kph-240kph i cant tell exactly how fast cus it went off the clock, but i was in 5th gear n still had 6th gear to go, i duno how much further it would have gone. wht mods u got

  • Because there was traffic in the way...no mods, and happiest that way!!

  • yea your speedo is inaccurate. unless you have removed the speed cut then your not even doing 180. mine shows me doing about 220 on my levin blacktop before the speed cut kicks in and about 240 on my old silvertop. that was with the factory speed cut at 180

  • Comment removed

  • well i had my speed limiter cut off, n there was no speed atall, like i said i hit ruffly 230-240kmh, n id modifyed my car, it wasnt standard, it was pusing out about 210bhp not alot but enough :), for a 1.6 the levin is quiet fast. wikd car n i still regret selling my one

  • hi..ive seen 4age 20v blacktops with slight modifications like intake, exhaust take out golf 5 gti's!

  • yea yea <---liek dat?

  • lol, cheeky. na they get there ok. nufin like a 200kph pull in a decent turbo car thou

  • Is the driver barefoot?

  • Almost certainly, though I don't remember for sure. Why do you ask? :-)

  • You can see his feet around 0:08 :) Sounds very strong though! Nice and throaty.

  • wats the top rev limit you can get from a blacktop???

  • 9k...

  • Hey thanks for the information!! I thought the fuel curve was based off of tables though? Stock Tach btw... Looking online I see figures from 7500rpm to 8600rpm. Also I'm using an AT ecu and MAP sensor. I didn't just hook up the Blacktop ECU straight up, lol! I had a pro make an interface wiring harness to work with all my MR2 components. Look up MR220V, he is awesome with wiring harnesses and does work on the side as well!

  • oh I almost forgot! The BT AT ECU puts out a lot of fuel and you have to install a MAP sensor (and remove the MAF) so be careful cus its not very fuel efficient! Cool thing is the weight of the MR2 means I can bring the car to a max of 133mph (214 km/h)

  • That's because the heads aren't flowing as well as they should be so the VE tables in the ECU are totally wrong for the engine. They may be similar, but they are VERY far from the same.

  • Hey if it helps anyone I put a Silvertop 20V MT in my '88 MR2 with a Blacktop ECU AT ecu and the AT ECU cuts at 8500-8600 RPM.

Having a manual tranny does not effect the ECU's function. Oh and the BT is much easier to kill the SPEED limiter with only pulling one wire!!!

  • Youre tachometer is damaged and/or inaccurate. Some cheap consumer grade autometer unit by chance? Cut = 8000 RPM. Period. End of story.

  • Hey sandsz, I have a 20V BT in my AW11 with 5 sp trans and ECU. What wire do I remove to eliminate the SPEED limiter?

  • When you did you swap did you keep your old mechanical speed sensor on the tranny or did you stay with the electronic one from the BT? I reused my mechanical one so I wouldn't have to hook up an after market speedo and keep it clean. There should be a purple wire to the BT for speed sensor. Or you can unplug the speed sensor, either way the trick is to get the ECU to not sense your speed. Presto, no speed limiter.

  • Fredio is this a AE111 or AE101 because the 111 engine is the latest 20 valve and highest performance

  • AE111 all the way, hence black top in the video title ;-) I've driven both and the difference is noticeable and worthwhile IMO.

  • Comment removed

  • Black Redline = 8000, Silver Redline = 7500, both cut at 8000, it's said that neither should be pushed to 9k but that 8500 or so is ok. the silver isn't pulling hard at 8k, but the black does pull hard to the redline. Without a cat and with some minor tweaks I'd say a black would pull hard to 8500+, however I wouldn't recommend it on factory rods. Toyota put a 8k cut on it for a reason. "will it get that far and pull a bit there" yes, "will it explode if you do this" yes. no free lunch mate ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • In standard form, no it did not. both cut at 8k precisely with OEM ecus. I've hit both repeatedly.

  • Comment removed

  • y didnt u keep going????

  • Ran out of room, and only 10k to go till the cut (hadn't removed it) anyway... If you knew the location and time of day you would understand that that was enough ;-)

  • i think the cut is stupid on speed but good on the revs..greats cars 2 drive

  • Agreed, though how often do you really need to do more than 180? Also, they get really toasty and stressed at those speeds. I've driven it that fast consistently a few times and the oil thins down etc. Street cars aren't meant for racing/race style driving :-)

  • Nice. See mine and comment. Thanks

  • A stock standard levin bzg does the quarter mile in about 16.2 secs and does 8.2-8.5 secs to 100 km/h manual I used to have one great cars

  • Great car yes, 16.2 no way. My gts skyline could and did pull a 16.0 the bzg just walks away from it in every case. its good for a mid - low 15 with the right driver. Next time you are having a go take your tubby mates out of the passenger seats! ;-)

  • I have an auto bz-g how much would it be to convert it to a manual?

  • I have no idea. Sorry :-)

  • let me know what this levin does from 0-100kmph

  • not sure, but i know it does the quarter mile in about 15.5 and some have gone 15 flat. you can probably work it out from that. i just watched the vid, about 7s i'd say :-) i'm in a different country to that car now. great car, perfect engine for something even lighter and rwd!

  • around 8secs

  • Lol! "Steve your gonna get busted"

  • You seem to know alot of 4A-GE engines, is it possiable to swap a 4A-GE in a 1980 celica gt? I can't seem to find anything on this. BTW very nice vid.

  • the short answer is that anything is possible. literally, there are v8s in minis and everthing else. if you look at my ute vids, i have a twincam fwd engine in there in place of the single cam it used to have. the new engine makes twice as much stock, and 5 times as much as the old one as it is with the big turbo and all the right bits...

  • long answer is, maybe a straight swap, or maybe a custom job with mounts and things. not sure to be honest. celica the natural swap is the 3sge. the 4age is great, but its suited to light cars, and the celica is not light. hope that helps you. look up the user em_knaps for a vid of a celica with a v8 in it. hes a mate.

  • If memory serves that a ra65?

Ive put a 1g-gte into my ra60, same car absicly. 4age will be no dramas.

  • I gotta agree....those were pretty slow shifts. I alway replace the synchros when I do a short shifter...although short shifters from most quality companies will come with replacement parts for the old ones that my be worn out. It's just a reality of racing. If you want speed, expect to wear out a few things more regularly than most drivers. I still haven't had to on my current car (over a year of constant abuse). lol.

  • Ok, 1-2, slow, syncros on last legs, 2-3, ok, indirect gate path, 3-4 fast as the box will allow WITHOUT abusing it. please realise that the point of this video was to play it through some nice b&w speakers at a good volume and ENJOY THE SOUND OF THE ITBS, not to drag race the shit out of her car like i stole it.

  • proper shifting for an acceptably fast shift WITHOUT excessive wear and tear is done by pressure against the syncro rings which engage at THEIR rate. pushing it through any faster just rapes the syncros and doesnt slow/speed the dogs as effectively either. short shifters are not required.

  • "Raping" the synchros is faster. Thats why I'm able to pull off better 1/4 times in some friends cars than they can. Mostly it's rhythm. You can pull out of a gear without the clutch and not sustain any damage...so you do so and if your foot is fast enough you fully engage and disengage the clutch by the time you've shifted into the next gear. This is probably why I haven't really had any problems. But hey, everyone has their own style.

  • heres my shift from 3-4th. been going strong for 3 years now.. fill in the spaces

    media.putfile. com/60-100-54

  • man you need to shift a little less like a women.

  • if you are referring to the shift from 1st to 2nd, its slow on purpose because the synchros are toast from a little too agressive shifting. other than that, that is about the right speed for a fastish shift and good box longevity. a gear lever should be guided through with speed and no force allowing the synchro to match speeds at its own rate. any pushing of it is not only bad for it, but counter productive also.

  • the shifts on that video are not .4 seconds.. and im not just talking about the 1st to second those are all slow shifts. If the synchros will wear out then thats fine but k20 synchros take my shifts and they are twice as fast as that.

  • just ran it through avidemux and you my son, are wrong. thats ok though... i dont mind. and, i do have the logs that prove me right... whether you like it or not.

  • i once sat with a guy called dave in his vr4 galant 2.0 v6 tt and watched him ram it through on each shift. not particularly fast, and not good for the box at all. his synchros lasted less than 6 months like that... i also have my shifts data.logged on gtech at under 0.4 seconds without forward thrust... thats not to bad if you ask me ;-) but thanks for watching.

  • music!

  • yes, yes it is. what is not to like about induction resonances :-) i like it better than the sound of the holset spooling on the ute. (see the daytime donuts vid for that sound)

  • easy to clock

  • geez, didn't take much to wipe off that speed, are the brakes standard?

  • yes, dead stock at the time, its in km/hr, and not clearly evident in the vid was the massive amount of shaking that happened after some speed was lost. standard brakes with good pads are fine to stop the car from any speed it can get to. after this film we put some m1166 pads on it and raced it, i wore right through them :-)

  • awesome! I have a bz-r on its way from japan in a week or 2, and your video impressed me a bit, any mods done these days?

  • its my girls car mate, the pads were just put in for the racing day :-) its totally stock from bumper to bumper. they are best that way in my opinion. maybe sway bars and shocks to tame it a bit. it does need 15" wheels though. the bzrs come with those. i wouldnt go larger, but most people care about looks more. hers has 205/50r15 toyo t1rs on it, and they are pretty good. gsd3 goodyears are also good. depends what you want from it, i'm a big fan of sleepers though :-)

  • i also like to be able to enter driveways at illegal speeds without scraping. i'd like to have a little play with the 6 speed at some point, if youre in nz, perhaps you could hook me up when i get back. check out the ute videos. its making about 350hp or so. goes very hard.

  • yeah, I agree, I'm actually going from a s5 Rx-7 turbo(sold it a few months back) to the levin, its the 6speed and basically stock apart from volk te37 wheels an exhaust system (think its just a cat back) and front strut tower bar, I just figured it'd be a cheap fun car thats pretty unique. I live australia btw. and i'll check out the ute vids now.

  • Womans don't like doin 170 it seems...
