  • thank you very very helpful!

  • Great clips !

    Thanks for uploading.

  • And also arent you supposed to stay on your back for a bit?

  • Why is she using paddles? That makes it sooooo much harder.

  • @goswim098 how will you know when to turn, cause sometime i flip far away from the wall

  • @AsianTheDude That just takes practice. Just the other day at a meet I screwed up and was to far away from the wall, you just kinda have to get the hang of the pool and know how far away from the wall you are.

  • I prefer to push off on the back. It is faster. Any time spent rotating while on the wall is time wasted. Push off on your back and start dolphin kicking, dolphin kick to your side and then your front and to the surface.

  • Hello,

I am having a problem when I try this. I can do it fine with the noodle, then with the bouys, but when I try it without aid I end up very close to the bottom of the pool. Sometimes my back actually touches the bottom. I feel as if I'm in the right position but just WAY too deep. I don't see the students in your video doing that so could you tell me what mistake I am making?

    Thanks!

  • @2centavos Sounds like you're "opening up" when you're going around. Try to make sure you're tucking your head all the way through. Imagine putting your head between your knees and see if that helps. More help would be available at our website and others will help with answers there.

  • very helpful videos

  • I've been a lap swimmer for 10 years and have never been able to do this until now. Thanks! So helpful!

  • This is an excellent series on flip turns, the best instruction I’ve seen. Thanks! The girl in purple/pink flowers flips quicker & lands higher on the wall than the ladies in dark suits. The darksuit ladies flip slower, sink deeper, seem to have to wait 4 their feet to come around to get parallel w/ the surface b4 they can push off, & end up coming off much deeper. All of which implies wasted time. What do dark suit ladies lack? I’d really like to hear from some experts.

  • I suspect that purple/pink-girl is not only looking at her knees & keeping the arms weightless, but she is ALSO more aggressively bending @ the waist causing tension in hamstrings & low back BEFORE she brings her knees to the chest. It’s like using the abs to bend over & almost touch hands 2 toes w/ straight legs. She keeps legs straight & waits for that tension BEFORE drawing knees up and feet over.

  • When she finally brings her knees up to the chest, her feet snap over & her torso snaps to parallel w/ the surface. In video #3 @ 11” and @ 2:12”darksuit-lady does the same aggressive bend at waist and flips quickly. Her hands almost touch her feet. In videos #4&5 both darksuit-ladies always flip slower, sink, & wait for feet to come around to wall. Does aggressive waist bend while legs are still straight cause the difference? What say ye?

  • I took a master's swim class, and tried to do these flips. I couldn't do them to save my life. My technique was all wrong; I was using my hands and getting really mad because I failed everytime. I asked my instructor how to do it, she told me to follow one hand when flipping. She was terrible at showing me the correct technique. It wasn't until I watched these videos, that I finally got it right. I agree with Meylina8.

  • @epina42 - Glad they helped. Congrats on the flips and visit our website for direct feedback when you're having any trouble on other swimming techniques. Just a great post, and really made us feel good. Thanks.

  • This is awesome I have been taking swimming lessons and taught tumble/flip turns as a 1 step process. I can't wait to trying all 5 steps.

  • omg!! tysm for the help!

  • with your instruction, i was able to do flip turn yesterday after a month and half, about for 15 days, of light practice. for me, a timing of forearm down pull at turning was the key to finally get it done. it seems flip turn makes swimming easier and fun for me. Thank you so much!

  • thanks

  • Could you please answer the following question: what is better to practise right after the push off - the underwater flutter kick or the dolphin kick? As I understand, the dolphin is the fastest and, thus, preferable, right? How many underwater kicks after the flip turn are you supposed to do on average? (I understand, that depends on the depth of the push off, but still..)

  • @AntonKalistratov definitely dolphin kick until right before you break the surface (and take your first pull). It's important to be able to do a dolphin kick correctly, though--if you can't, then I'd flutter kick.

As for the number number of kicks, there isn't really a set number i know of. I'd imagine there are a lot of variables, such as how fast your dolphin kicks are, depth, etc.

  • @AntonKalistratov ive learned its best to do about 3-5 big dolphin kicks

  • Sehr gute Anleitung. Schön gemacht für jedermann. Danke!

  • Thanks and thanks lots. I paid for lessons but could'nt do it till i watched this video. I can now do them perfectly and i have taughty my son in Africa how to di it.

  • ... I think I'm gonna need those hundreds of practice to get the right u.u ...

  • Great video! I'm definitely going to watch all your steps and pick all the tips recommended. I've always wanted to pick up this flip turn skill. Glad that I stumble upon your video!

  • Yeah, great stuff. I did yesterday 30 min of step 1, and could not do a thing right. I gave it a try today and I was able to do all 5 steps.....I will keep watching and practicing...!!

  • i'm gonna try this

  • Thank u very much... it did help me a lot>>

  • same here i cant get down flip turns i end up sideways usally i do open

  • Quality instruction. Thanks.

  • Excellent series of instructional vids guys. I'd been struggling with this technique for weeks.

  • Very good instruction series. I did all in sequence in about 20 minutes having never tried a flip turn before in my life and ended up doing them. Thanks!!

  • i've been wondering about that flip turn! i see people do it when i'm swimming and i've been like, "I want to do that!" Nows I cans. Cause of this series. You guys are the bestestess! :-]

  • sweeet%^&

  • To NOI102201: There is no flip turn in breaststroke and butterfly, its always an open turn. Flip turn is done only in freestyle and backstroke.

  • actually, he/she was talking about the IM backwards flip turn. during the backstroke to breastroke, a swimmer can actually tuch and then fllip backwards. phelps does it. its reltivly new and really hard

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I have always wanted to know how to do flip turns properly!

  • thank you. . . amazing video...super-helpful !!!

  • wow thanks ... could you explain how to do a backstroke-breaststroke flipturn if possible cuase i just don t understand how to do it ...

but this series helped me to improve my turns thanks

  • This is just fabulous, Wow!

  • I did the entirety of these videos in the pool for two hours over and over again, and surprisingly I didn't get very bored at all, it was quite occupying thinking about your positioning and getting it just right, and I'm MUCH better off now then I was this morning, thank you very much for the help!

  • Hezky zpracovaná didaktická řada nácviku. Budu ji sám používat na dětech při nácviku. Díky

  • Wow, big thanks for this video series. Worked on flip turns a little today with this video series in mind.

  • Thank you for this awesome series.

  • Best flip turn instructions ever! A billion thanks.

  • seriously right? this actually explains and breaks the flip turn into all the critical parts. it shows you what people are doing right and what they're doing wrong. its awesome. most other videos just give you a simple 3 step command which doesn't teach you anything. btw the girl in the purple flowers does some sick sick flip turns. Absolutely textbook and gorgeous.

  • Totally agree. Especially the part about the girl in purple flowers being gorgeous...

  • What if your pool instructor made you do flip turns in the middle of the pool every three freestyle strokes? That was hard.

  • Thank you for uploading these videos. I've been having trouble doing flip turns but when I watched this video, I felt that I was improving my flip turns during practices and meets.

  • My council swimming pool instructor says;

Push the water with you hands quickly to turn, practice

(She said she was a former professional player but she never came into water)

I spent many years to improve my skill remembering her advice but my skill getting worse.

Finally, this video series saved me from evil advice. Thank you very much.

  • Great series of videos. I've just started flip turns with the squad I train with and being able to visualise what I need to do is extremely helpful.

    Thanks heaps!

  • Awesome! Thank you very much for the 5 videos, they are very helpful!!

  • streamline position is the hardest. i keep going left handside. but i do made some perfect. remember, hands at the ear back......
