  • please make a 10 minute 4/4 beat with some driving jams and sudden stops. I am jamming alone and need a kick ass drummer ! This sounds great ! ty.

  • Haha just jamming my new song to your time signature, groovy player you are indeed

  • that's some nice stuff !! :)

  • Now that’s just smooth………nice.

  • if this solo is from expressing your emotion, you mustve had a pretty damn good day! lol

  • What Ride cymbal is that? It's got a brilliant tone to it, nice and warm...

  • @metalmaster126 Sabian HHX 21" groove ride

  • Tight playing. Cheers.

  • Your posture could be a lot better.

  • @Qldroarfan94 True, I'm actually kinda surprised I don't have bad back problems because I sit all day at work and then spend most of my spare-time by sitting next to a computer or a drum set.

  • dude no joke i just played guitar dude you were backing me up the whole way like this is the first time i have watched this vidio by the way great sound keep going

    MAKE IT BIG

  • how do you tune your toms? sound great

  • @guitarnick914 Batter head pretty low, resonant head little tighter to control the sustain. Usually I just tune them up and down until they sound good when I hit them both hard and soft.

  • @ERPPP don't be sorry :) in 3/4 the "pulse" is on quarter notes. I'm not very good at explaining this thou. Waltz is 3/4 for example.

  • @ERPPP exactly!

  • hey can i use this on my cd im recording? , id like a jam session at the beginning and this is amazing ...

  • @saysumsing Yes! I'll throw you a message!

  • My lyric on top of your drumming thank durmer

  • Nice!!

  • nice one handed rolls there brother! and that snare drum sounds soooooooooooo good!

  • This is bloody good!!!!

  • Nice grooves, enjoyed that. Looking forward to getting my drums back!

  • derek trucks on drums haha

  • Very nice work with the left hand on the snare!

  • He's the drummer in breaking Benjamin he's my no.1 idol :-) you should look him up on YouTube I think you will like him :-)

  • Loved it!! Do I hear a chad szeliga influence somewhere??

  • @AlanM11Drums Thanks! But sorry, I have to admit I haven't even heard of him..

  • how do those sticks on the bass not rattle or fall off???

  • @PattyWhomperOFFICIAL I have no clue :) I've always kept my emergency sticks on the bass drum and I don't remember rattling ever being a problem. One factor is probably the fact that my bass drum doesn't move when I play. I have a carpet under the bass drum, and the spikes under the pedal and bass drum spurs keep the drum in place. The lugs keep the sticks from falling off.

  • Great vid. I liked this so much, I wrote a song around it.

  • dude what shells are those, and what heads, ur toms are so beefy, i love that low thick sound

  • @4785sean bass and toms are Tama Granstar, heads Remo Emperor coated and Ambassador clear. I don't use dampening on my toms so I just tune the heads down until sustain is short enough :) (but the drum still resonates)

  • Many thanks for all the comments everyone! And almost 25,000 views, whoa!

  • what is the cymbal between the bigger crash on the right and the china...almost sounds like a silenced china or something

  • @DarkWingedDuck Stagg 10" splash on top of Meinl Classics 12" china mounted on a Tama x-hat stand. It's like a 2nd hihat and a stack in one.

  • Awesome.

  • Omg i just came all over the keyboard.

  • Also your kit sounds really nice!

  • I like how you start simply and build. I get stuck in the same old beats and fills but you're good at mixing it up and being creative much respect!

  • YES!

  • i know this question must be stupid, but many mars volta's songs are in 6/8 right?

  • @juangodfrid I'm sure they have songs in 6/8. Not sure how many, I haven't listened to them for a while..

  • i like this. :) thanks.. i'll try to learn this one.

  • "Speed is the only thing you can measure and speed alone is nothing" your comment - pure awesomeness

  • Hey Great playing & timing , you got the groove

your playing to 4:42 - 5:14 is really awesome ... but what kind of symbal are you hiting with your right hand on this time ??

    Thanks

  • @Perfectlytuned It's a Stagg 10" splash on top of Meinl Classics 12" china mounted on a Tama x-hat stand. It's like a 2nd hihat and a stack in one!

  • Dude props! One of the sickest drum beats! U make me want to run out and buy some drums and learn!

  • @GrimAsEverA7x Thanks! And I really recommend doing so!

  • you have just made a good point =)

  • dude ur amazing better then travis barker id say

  • @bradycorcoran Thanks for the comment! I have to say that there are no betters in music. It's about expressing yourself and doing your own thing in your own style. That's not something you can measure on a linear scale. There are so many little things that can make someone like a certain musician more than the other, that in the end there are only opinions. No absolutes. Speed is the only thing you can measure and speed alone is nothing. :)

  • @pyhtio

    yes!!!!!!!

  • I love plalying in 6/8 time and wanted to break out of rather simplistic rendering. Your video is great, showing some creative playing in that time, but sure would like to get some breakdown of what you're doing. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video.

  • @newmexicoflygirl Thanks! There's two things that I find I used quite a lot in this video. First, triplet ghost-notes, when I'm leading with right hand playing straight 8th notes, left hand fills the gaps with two ghosts, so the hands go RLLRLL. The other.. man I suck at explaining this but the start of the 6/8 bar goes RLRRLRS (Left = ghost notes, S = snare backbeat) so the first half of the bar is like half-time shuffle. Hope you can get any of that :)

  • @pyhtio - I'll have to watch your hands closely and try to apply that explanation so I can see it (I'm a visual learner but your written explanation is not bad). Learning to play ghost notes well is a challenge - easier to slam away - but they add a musical layer that separates the beginners (me) from the more advanced players. What's happening with your bass foot? Two pedals or one fast foot? Thanks for the response. (sorry for the multiple posts/removals).

  • @newmexicoflygirl Yes, it takes a lot of time to get ghost notes come naturally. All you need is just a little patience, as Mr. Rose might put it :) I think this video is mostly played with single bass. Probably some double bass action in the end. (whenever I'm playing hihat with foot, there's no double bass) Toe-Heel is the name of the technique I use for fast double notes on single kick, probably lots of videos about that on the 'tube!

  • @pyhtio Thanks again :))

  • I hate the way you hold your sticks!

  • @zildgian409 Wow, that's a strong reaction.. but I agree, my grip on this video is a bit strange for some reason. I usually hold the sticks closer to the balance point for more control.

  • @zildgian409 Ya, he's holding them much lower than you'd expect but really, so what? Doesn't really matter if he's getting the control and sound he wants. Sounds good to me.

  • i could rub one out to that snare

  • @greengourleyowens can I get sloppy seconds when you're done?

  • he used a snare hold^^

  • thanks for good drums that i can jam along with if i ever get rich ill give you money

  • please place somemore basic beats like pinkfloyd uses thanks man your awsome

  • is there dampening? Also what heads are you using?

  • @TheMisha1000 Remo Ambassador coated / ambassador on snare, Emperor coated / Ambassador on toms, Powerstroke3 / ambassador on bass. Bass drum is dampened a bit with a blanket inside.

  • Really enjoy the fancy snare work, thanks for posting!

  • can anyone tell me what he used to hold up his tom ?

  • I think I can :) The rack tom is on a snare-stand (from a Pearl Export -set).

  • Looks like a snare stand.

  • @EyeJayyy i think its a honda express moped yea thats what it looks like

  • Damn right killer snare sound

  • your toms and snare are tuned so much better then everyone on youtube. Great Job. Also you have great taste in cymbals

  • Whats a good excersise for keeping time on the hi hat while playing the bass with the other foot cant seem to do both at once?

  • Take a simple rock beat in a slow tempo, play 1/8 notes on hihat with foot and then try to go thru all the bass drum variations you can imagine. Start with kick just on 1 and 3. When you can handle all 1/8 note variations, move on to 16th notes. Or just practise at way slower tempos. That's the basic rule for learning new stuff, take it slow.

  • @pyhtio Thank You Very Much Very Helpful!!! Love All your Videos!

  • how is 6/8 different to 6/4?

  • Think of a blues shuffle or triplet feel, that's 6/8. Backbeat (snare accent) is on fourth 8-note. I think in 6/4 the feel is like in 4/4 but measure is 50% longer. Backbeat comes on 2, 4 and 6. Examples: Nothing Else Matters = 6/8, Turn the page by RUSH (not Bob Seger or Metallica) = 6/4

  • @pyhtio what i dont get is how is it different to 3/4

  • The difference is in the feel, but it's hard to explain over the internet in a foreign language. Waltz for example is 3/4. The basic pattern is cymbal-snare-snare, each of them a quarter note. That makes three quarter notes which is one measure. If you play an accent between the two snare hits (that would be the fourth 1/8-note), it will start to sound like 6/8. In 6/8 the pulse is usually on the first and fourth 1/8-note.

  • @sunchild90 6/8 is 6, 8th notes. meaning it would be faster, and 6/4 is 6, quarter notes. (slower)

  • dude thank you for putting this up! I just had a nice guitar session to your drumming. It was fun jamming with you. haha

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • That's cool, thanks! :)

  • That was awsome

  • Great job! 5/5

  • dude, i loved this. i love that fat warm sound of the drums. and as someone mentioned below, awesome ghost notes!

    keep drumming man!

  • I definately will! Thank you!

  • I still dont get the difference between 6/8 and 3/4

  • me either lol .. 3/4 is triplets i think ? xD

  • very good, skilled drumming... outstanding sound : >

  • Fantastic sound and some inspirational drum beats

  • 6/8 = 3/4 =)

  • But they are a different thing. :) For example, a blues shuffle is 6/8 but shouldn't be written in 3/4 because in the shuffle the accent is on the fourth eighth-note (which is in between quarter notes). If the pulse or accents are all on quarter notes, then it's 3/4. (in waltz, for example) .. anyway, being able to feel the pulse is more important than understanding how it should be written.

  • @PunkRockinVenezuela

6/8 is more Triplets in 2/4 than 3/4.

  • @PunkRockinVenezuela

You must not have been in band or anything because you clearly do not see a difference. One is a compound meter. HUGE difference in feel.

  • holy crap dude... you are fantastic

  • how do you like that snare?

btw nice chops and sound dude ;)

  • The steel Sensitone was really good but brass is the best! (in my opinion) Thanks!

  • very great sounding kit brother. congrats.

    whats the kick 24' x ?

  • Thanks! It's 24" x 16"

  • Working on a song and I know it's definitely in 6/8 now. Thank You.

  • awesome drumming!

  • gotta love how u keep time with the hat

  • The snare steel and the brass sound the same! sick drumming bro.

  • Great drumming, man. Is that a Sabian HHX ride?

  • Yep, it's a HHX 21" Groove ride! Thanks!

  • Sounds great! I'd kill to have one of those. Right now, I'm just stuck with the mediocrity of a Zildjian Z Heavy Ride. Too pingy and too much overtone for my taste. I love HHX rides, and well, the rest of their line for that matter.

  • Yea, HHX is a completely different line from Z. I love darker cymbal sounds, like HHX or K or Byzance, don't care that much for the brilliant ones like Z, A, AAX etc.

I need to get another ride with more ping at some point thou, sometimes when recording I miss that option!

  • Well, I myself love AAX cymbals as well. I've got a pair of AAX Fast Hats and an AAX Stage Crash. Not to mention my new AA Rocktagon splash. It looks cool, but it doesn't sound as good as I would like. But it was a present, so I can't complain.

A agree about the second ride though. I'd like to have a flat and/or dry ride and then a pingy ride.

  • Yep, can't have too many sound choices :)

  • Exactly. Now that I have my minimal basic setup, which isn't very minimal, but I feel it's all necessary(hats, ride, two crashes, china, splash), I can work on upgrading and adding to my set, so that's good.

  • bro: you have skills....your kit sounds great. that bass drum sounds like you (the drummer) can FEEL it. just slapped a powerstroke 3 on the kick side. think you have an ambasssador on your reso side?? i was kicking that idea around. i also run hhx legacy hat and 17 crash. love those cymbals. be well.

  • Lovely ride...I've been playing the same one for a couple of years now and still haven't grown bored of it. Couldn't imagine using anything else.

  • 4:25-4:26 was sweet bro.

nice drumming, i love the sound of your kit.

  • Solid :]!

  • nice ghost notes

  • Very nice! Totally "groove", man :) 5/5

  • smooth

  • nice setup

  • nice playing :)

  • I jammed to this with my guitarr. It was really nice! All the other movies are just clean solo-movies.

Got any movie where you play harder, like hard rock?

  • haha ive been jammin along with my bass

  • Thanks! It's fun to hear that people jam along to my drum videos :)

Unfortunately most of the clips I've recorded aren't that beat-oriented so I'm afraid I don't have a harder-rocking movie for you to jam with..

  • I wish you had some overheads...

  • How about the two Rode NT-5's that I used to record this clip?

  • owned!!

  • damnnn son... description

  • What a professional response. Thanks. Good luck with your fan base.

  • That probably came out a bit too harsh, I'm sorry.

The mic setup was in the description all along thou. The overheads just are so high that you can't see them on the video.

  • There was nothing wrong with his response. He was just giving info, you're being overly sensitive

  • nice groove man i really enjoyed that and i watched the whole thing even with my ADHD! thats sick i have been working a fill involving triplet highhats moving to similair triplets on snare and basses.

  • nice groove, steady tempo, thats what its all about!

  • You have a good, natural flow...and great tone on your skins...fun to improvise with too...I like the anticpations and breaks. A++

  • Excellent work, great drum sounds.

  • I,m interested in getting some sennheiser e604 for toms?? Notice thats your snare mic - sounds awsome. But have you tried it out on the toms. Could you recomend it for this purpose. I might get one for snare anyhows-I normally use sm57-very cool vid and playing is exellent

  • Thanks! I haven't tested it a lot but I believe the e604 will work on toms as it does with snare. At least it's pretty cheap!

  • i play with my guitar to you, exuse my english

  • Good job!

  • I have no clue what you're talking about. This sounds great. And pyhtio, you should definately put that Mr. Death sticker back on your kick drum head =)

  • um, fuck you......?

  • great playing man :)

  • Fully agree with previous poster. Flawless drumming and great taste too.

  • awesome groove man.. sounds very nice aswel:)
