I have a 4.10 m3 e46 if I race a e46 m3 at the speed of 80mph to 150mph I will get owned, if I race him from 40mph to 120 he will get owned.

It does not have anything to do with the weight. the e36 is light but the e46 has more hp. The e36 m3 in the video is probably a six speed and has a lower gear ratio, If I had to guess it is probably 3.15 compare to the e46 which has a 3.62 final drive. Therefore the e36 will be faster in the high end when they are both getting closer to maxing out their cars.

The next reason is the driver and his shifting style. If either one shifts too early or too slow this could happen.

Put on a carbon airbox with alfa-N system in the E36 and you have 343 hsp then watch it burn that E46 !

Trust me E46 is quicker on every measure than the E36.

You are looking at 22 bhp extra vs (40kg) extra weight. Once the E46 stretches it's legs it would definitely pull away.

If e36 is NOT tuned I would say the E46 is fucked, poor oil, not on RON 100 petrol.

Probably > 100,000 miles on engine would effect power output. A well maintained E36 might win then.

the e46 m3 have the same engine with e36 m3 the different is in the air box system and the e36 has 1500 kilos and the e46 m3 has 1570 and 19" wheels but don t forget that the e46 engines of year 2002-3 they had problem and many broke the 2004 option for m3 e46 is the best to be sure

@1985Bimmer Eh? You can clearly see the E46 has 18" wheels. Look at BMWs own specs. Kerb weight for E36 Evolution M3 is 1460kg (minus passengers and fuel). E46 M3 is 1500 kg (e46 csl roughly 1400kg).

These comments are retarded. Its an older M3 but its an EVO M3 from Europe. 321hp, roughly 3100lbs. The newer M3 is about 500lbs heavier at 3600lbs and has only 12 more hp at 333. You do the math. The older M3 is faster, end of story.

This is a euro e36 M3. It's a different animal than the US spec version. The s50b32 is quite similar to the s54 in the e46, and only about 10hp shy. Pretty different from the s52 we got here, which isn't much more than a punched out m52.

I hope everyone is keeping in mind this is the european 3.2L M3 version of the e36, which has tremendously more power than our US spec 3 series, M or non-M. US spec 3.0 & 3.2 have 240hp, while the Euro 3.0 has 280, and Euro 3.2 has 321hp. And if you are in a 325/323 you are pushing around 190hp... 316's/18's don.t even want to know...

anyways, the euro 3.2 engine can keep up with, and if driven correctly, beat an e46 m, stock for stock (not sure about modded vs modded, but that would be fun!)

yeah SMG switches gears faster but it does not go faster than a manual, Ive raced in both kinds of E46's m3's and experienced it many times, the manual transmission is faster, the only thing smg does is shift faster but doesnt give the same acceleration power every time it shifts, as a manual because of the clutching, its hard to explain it better but yeah, you'll understand :p

but it is a big difference on the SMG and manual transmission for the e46, the manual is a bit faster ( my friend lent me his once and yeah, its faster.)

Maybe(probibly) the e46 is faster from a standing start than the e36, i never tried that.

I'm also aware that my e36 is in very good condition maybe better than any other stock e36 M3 ;-)

But the owner of the e46 admits in part2 that the/my e36 is faster/sneller.

Can the car have heated seats without having the "cold weather package" which includes heated seats, headlight washers and ski bag.

I am about to get an M3 e46 and it has heated seats but no headlight washers. I want to make sure the front of the car wasn't damaged and replaced while forgetting the washers.

You are correct, it seems heated seats are part of the ZCW Option (Cold Weather Package). That includes headlight washers, heated front seats and ski bag/rear seat pass thru. Maybe the car you are looking at has had front end repair damage. Don't let that bother you though, cars crash, and that is a fact of life with 250 million on the road. As long at it has been repaired correctly with genuine BMW parts and the paintwork is good, I wouldn't let a good deal get away from you!

i have see top speeds on both cars . The raw reality is that e36 never goes stock more than 270km/h or 280km/h and the e46 i have see in many times 300km/- both whitout limiter . So as much as i love bmw and all M 's e36 can't beat e46 ErikT595 - i understand thats your car and its a great one - but lets not go over board ... the only thing i can admit is that the diferrence betwin the 2 models aren't very big but e46 it's a more acomplished car , traction wise and much more versatile .

I don't know why my e36 is so fast, it runs very good and is stock, except for the speedlimiter(as you maybe saw on my other movies) and the exhaust end-pipe is from Hamann. But these two things don't give the car really more power.

As much as I love both the E46 and the E36, I say the E36 is better. This video proves its better in a straight line, and on a track youll find the same thing - the lighter, nimbler, more track-oriented E36 will win outright. E46 is heavy, its a beautiful machine but I think in time we will find ourselves looking back on the //M legacy with the E30 being heralded for the first one, E36 for the first 6cylinder. E36 M3 is already considered a classic by many, E46 had a lot to prove and fell short
