This bird is banded - one is probably a USFWS band and the other a species-specific band. These beautiful birds are making a come-back. I filmed them in Kaua'i in 2008.
The pavement was a wheelchair accessable trail out to a few on one of the craters. These silly birds didn't care where they walked or who was next to them. Probably could have touched them if I wanted to (I wouldn't though of course!).
Wonderful! I wanted to see a Nene because, although I know it's the state bird, I've never seen one up close. Thanks!

While I didn't much like seeing the pavement under it's feet, it was a treat to see the Nene up close and to hear him talk to us. Mahalo.
