the routine of an aborted routine didn't finish properly. Before the curtains closed completely, the bench under the woman might have broken in half. Alternatively, the magicians are sneaking back towards the bench as the curtains close behind the compere. From behind the curtains, the power saw is heard starting up, then there's a hideous female scream.

Thanks for the suggestions. The reason we opted for this ending was consistent with the on-going gag we had with the compere. He kept finding more and more ways to 'get rid' of the magicians, including pulling the tabs in, cutting the power to the stage and eventually 'blowing them up' with pyros.
