I've had mine for about two years now. It has seen very little use, and has already had to go back to the factory once, and needs to again for the same issue (interior black dust appears in the field of view). Battery life is a joke-- only a few hours. The circle plex reticle is distracting, so I'll probably have them change it to a different one while it is there in the shop.
could you mount a trippler to coincide with this sight?? I love the reticle, depending on the battery life I'm going to buy one after my next deployment!
I have one on a M4 and I`m real happy with it. Under most conditions the illumination is not even needed. Not being battery dependent is a huge plus for me.
They don't advertise the battery life, because it is horrible. A few reviews have claimed battery life in the single digit hours. And having eye relief in a 1x optic is a huge CON.
I wanted one, but the cons outweigh its usefulness.
@PortlandOriginal There is truth to the battery life issue. The illumination system is external though, and I'm hoping that Leupold or a 3rd party will offer some type of upgrade there. Eye relief is no more of a con than on a scope or with a magnifier on a RDS. I keep my prismatic w/ no illumination at all, and keep it on a FTS mount to cowitness with a fiber/tritium reflex. In conditions that the reflex washes out, is the exact conditions suitable for a black etched reticle.
This is perfect for people with astigmatism. It's an eye issue that causes the reticule of eotechs and aimpoints to look smudged. So a 2 moa reticule would look like a 10+ moa reticule.
that is super nice thanks for the vid im pondering between this or an eotech. i like how the reticle stays black in case of battery failure. look like my cqb rifle
i need someones opinion.. whats better for target shooting with a 5.56nato, along with some cyote hunting. the leupold mark 4 tactical, or the Trijicon Acog??
Since it's not variable power, I can't see the point. It offers nothing over a 2 MOA Aimpoint and is more restrictive as to the position of your eye behind the thing due to it still being a scope. Eye relief (though generous), exit pupil, cheek weld, etc. all now become a factor.
@vvelazquez89 the reason why its such a good optic is because its not like a HOLOGRAPHIC SIGHt....unlike holographic sights if the battery dies you'll just be staring at an empty screen....with the prismatic if your battery dies you can still use the black cross hairs etched in the scope. And besdies its just about 450 bucks so way cheaper than an AIMPOINT.
It's not way cheaper. An Aimpoint CompC3 with an ADM mount is about 460 or so. Also, this optic still has all the disadvantages that any scope has. If your eye is not properly oriented behind it, you can't see through it; an issue with conventional shooting positions. There's a reason this optic hasn't made any headway with serious users and instructors. For CQB, get an Aimpoint and make sure you have cowitnessing BUIS's. For longer range/more versatility, a variable 1-4X.
@vvelazquez89 Its a true 1x optic with an etched reticle. If the batteries go dead, you still have the black etched reticle available. The etched reticle simply can't wash out like fiber/tritium or an LED with low batteries. It is also built like a tank. 14mm lens, but a 30mm OD tube = lots of metal. Cowitness one of these with a tritium/fiber reflex sight for a self-adapting reticle that will work in ALL lighting conditions, with optional LED illumination too!
only question is what kind of burn time can you get b4 your batteries die. unfortinatly there website said nothing about battery life so its prolly either really good or really bad.
@twistcut Yes, it has an etched reticle and it works as a black reticle when the power is off. The reticle being fixed rather than projected means you have to maintain a consitent cheekweld though unlike the Aimpoint or Eotech type sights which allow sloppy head placment. If you shoot an M16/AR15 NTCH and don't have any of the bad habits the current crop of kiddies display it's an awesome sight. If you lack a consistent mount when shouldering your weapon it's not for you.

Is this optic holographic at all? Does not require a battery?
ohthejoyslick 2 months ago
@ohthejoyslick holographic still uses a battery, and are usually quite inefficient.

what makes a prismatic scope "prismatic"?

@vvelazquez89 It is etched like a scope, so when the battery dies you can still use it.
