  • Very cool stuff. Good call, absolutely original. Great chemistry, in the cast.

  • The best author ever...Charles 'mother fucking' Bukowski....Degenerate, Asshole Extraordinare, Raging Alcoholic, Eccentric Enigmatic Author and just all around fucking RAWSOME!!!! This guy has written my absolute favorite books ever. Ham on Rye is an extraordinary book. Women (the basis for the Hank Moody character in Californication) is a great piece of autobiographical fiction. Factotum is a close 2nd favorite along with Post Office and Notes of a Dirty Old Man. All Hail and Long Live The Buk

  • @theenigmajjames The best author ever

    ### wholeheartedly agree with you and those books u mentioned: i have

them all and love them too, barfly is a classic movie and factotum is fun

too though not as good IMHO.

  • @theenigmajjames exactly !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like this movie, very much.,..

  • They are the anti-hollywood-dream-couple. Great movie!!

  • Does the movie relate to any of his novels like women, or hollywood?

  • i liked how the ending was like the intro

  • Highly under rated movie!! Rourke ROCKS!!!!!

  • Holy shit balls, I am watching this movie as we speak on my13. Finally they show a film worth watching.

  • @RattleheadAnthony who plays the song at the bebinning of barfly?

  • @RattleheadAnthony who plays the music at beginning of barfly

  • @doctorcee It's called "hip hug her", performed by Booker T and the M.G's.

  • Sick ass movie love it!!!

  • my friend's nickname is barfly :D

  • Aha! Alice Krige turns up in all the best movies!

  • BUKOWSKI

  • One of Rourke's best movies... This and Full Metal Jacket are the best movies of 1987 for me and none of them got any award at the Oscars.. Stupid movie critics..

Anyway, here's "..To all my friends!.." :)

  • @sisak1987 I saw this when I was 17, on video tape, probably six months after its theatrical release. I have to say, it was an eye opener. I loved it. It just moved me and made so much sense to me. It still does. Take Care.

  • What accounts for Mickey's long absence from film years ago?

Did he say something anti-Semitic or homophobic?

  • Prime Rourke...the best!

  • he sounds like he is trying to hard to sound cool in the movie.

  • @ModernDayReview88 Check the voice of Bukowski and you will find out

  • Friend told me that you can watch u th1s m0v!ie online @ MOOV ZON . COM g00gle the link above

  • you know someone is a good actor when not only does the character not sound like the actor but niether looks nor carries the same mannerisms as the actor.

  • estoy leyendo Hollywood...q libro tan jodidamente bueno y divertido...bukowski was a genius!

  • Surely was!

  • this wa s one of the great's the only thing is the sound on the movie is to low even if you buy it -? ovr all two thumbs up great flick !

  • just watched this again for umpteenth time

its on veehd... sound was normal for a movie

  • He was a man beaten in childhood into a young man that loved life but had no clear hope of ever having what he loved, so aspired only to make his art regardless of what we argue. So to make a movie about this person is a faliure because he would not care if you made a movie about him or about a dog. as long as he got the money and the young blondes. he would let you take a shit on his face. If you want a conversation talk about what I say not the image of me that you masturbate to at night

  • if your talking about Charles Bukowski I think maybe your interpretatioin a little off, your impression is yours, thats fine, but it doesnt really reflect Bukowski....or Henry Chinaski.

  • i'm disappointed no one has replied to your comment; its so long

  • amo a Bukowski , gracias !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i watched this movie today and i noticed charles bukowski sitting at the bar when henry meets wanda, he gives henry a weird look as if to say, who the fuck do you think you are!

  • Faye Dunaway's legs at 0:57-1:00 , one the sexiest senes on cinema history!!!

  • Yep,lost afew loads from that scene,HOT!

  • This movie makes me want to die just so I can roll over in my grave. That fact that they even make movies about bukowski is a failure in the wings. How can you ever hope to make an honest depiction of someone who doesn't subscribe to anything. It is literally in-understandable.

  • You asshole, apparently you didnt read Hollywood....read all of his work before you comment on something you know nothing about.

  • read the bible. its sexy

  • Doesn't subscribe to anything? Your lights are one, but your lights are dim. Let met guess. You're 18 and you just recently discovered Post Office? Bukowski had a strong moral code and much strength. Saying he subscribed to nothing is just an idiotic thing to say.

  • Crazy? huum..

  • hey oscartripe..if you are anyone else has the movie, can you upload it please?

  • Sometimes I think of all the places where I don't wanna go

Then I think of all the things that I never wanna do

And when I think of all the people that I don't wanna meet

I close my eyes and go to sleep

Your obviousness disgusts me I see thru your macho lies

I'll fight everything you stand for

There's something in your purse baby, my head is getting sore

Maybe what we had was just green corn

  • Nice NOFX line........... Tully, baby, you're trapped behind your golden bars

I'm the prince of poverty I hang around in bars

    Your life's a Mercedes, a mansion with a pool

My life's on a bus stop just waiting for some fuel

  • I dont recognize that NOFX line. What one is it from and when did it come out? This movie came out in 1987 and was originally written in the 60's. How about "missing the alchol".

  • The NOFX song is titled Green Corn from the Ribbed album. I think it was released in '90.

  • ya mickey is great in this

  • Being a barfly was a protest of Bukovski to his father who always told him to be someone...One of Mickey Rourke's best performances!

  • my opinoin, his best performance.

  • ur ma's pussy maybe

  • Just some friendly advice, concentrate on the things you like and avoid the things you that you dont.

  • omg can someone tell me why this movie is like 800$

I WANNA BUY IT FKIN SHIT

  • It's out of print.

  • MASTERPIECE! Bukowski is a genius!

  • That's the funniest job interview I've ever seen.

  • Comment removed

  • WMG can kiss my ass

  • What the fuck! Fuck this copyright. Anyway, it´s the best promotion for this movie!

  • I think Rourke was closer to Hank than he liked. Hank could be a mean slightly deranged son of a bitch when he was tanked. As far as some of the flourishes Rourke used, it was just to add flavor and interest to the character. Thats Hollywood. Still a great film and Buke's script shines through.

  • I love this movie!! A classic..totally original :)Mickey and Faye give "Oscar Worthy" Performances.

  • "everybody's do something"

  • "YOu cant fuck and you cant fight" "Drinks, drinks for all my friends" "Your mothers cunt stinks like carper cleaner" pure pearls when delivered by Master Mick

  • Barfly is one of the best films of 1987. It stars Future oscar-winner Mickey Rourke who'll makes a grand return in The Wrestler. And Previous Oscar-winner Faye Dunaway who has some very sexy legs & feet in this story about 2 boozers in love. Based on a great story by Charles Bukowski. Great movie look for it on DVD

  • The best film ever produced.

  • @PeterCooksArse I recently had the opportunity to find the DVD in a shop at Amsterdam. This copy is mine....and mine solely. Wow! Outstanding

  • @kax61 I've owned around 6 VHS copies - I keep giving them away. When the film came out in 1988 I rented it so often from the shop in my town and no one else ever rented it, so the owner just gave it to me. My nephew has a copy; one copy wore out - I've puked and partied with this film - 14 years of drinking before the DT's - there be but one Hank, the best writer who's ever lived. The guy still makes me giggle and fight on - and it all started with this film.

  • I Love Mickey Rourke

  • Another round for my firends

  • I love Bartholomew

  • I love Kaliopi.

  • Humanity you never even damn well came close to losing it, from the beginning. You have it, have had it and will have it.

  • Loved it.Loved Rourke in it.Could care less about Bukowski but a great acting job by Rourke.

  • TO ALL MY FRIENDS!

  • that trailer has inspired me not to see it. if mickey rourke re-did it now it'd be great, but in this he seems limp as fuck. hank's screenplay is the only thing carrying it. sorry if you love the movie, but that's opinion for ya. thanks

  • Watch it and review it

  • i love Barfly. Mickey rocks this...

  • greatest movie ever.

  • No one can play Hank.Rest in peace,we love you

And I'm from Croatia and Luka Modric sucks badly....Little prick

  • BUK has yet to be translated properly to the screen. Not this, nor the Matt Dillon film comes close. (For starts, pretty boys can't play Hank).

  • unfortunately Hollywood is full of pretty boys and they are the ones with the money to pay for the movie

but then again, a movie with a real Bukowski would never be a real film according to Hollywood

  • while i agree that matt dillon's impression of hank sucked really bad, i think mickey rourke's interpretation of bukowski's character was pretty decent. could have been a little rougher and less romantic in his way of talking, but i doubt bukowski himself would have liked ANY actor portraying him. also i wouldn't exactly call rourke a pretty boy... dillon though? definitely

  • seems like he's fucked it up, it doesnt look like bukowski, it doesnt feel like bukowski

  • bukowski wrote it

  • a journey to heaven and hell...

  • I can't find the DVD either. One of the best movies i ever seen...and if you disagree: "Your mother's cunt stinks"

  • This film needs to be released on dvd in the UK

  • Lol, in "Hollywood" he writes how Faeh demanded a scene be written into the movie that showed off her legs...she did have great legs tho.

But I'm not feeling Rourke's Bukowski. He seems too soft.

He did nail the Sin City character Marv though...which always kinda reminded me of Bukowski. I'll bet Frank Miller read Buk.

  • Who is better-Matt Dillon or Mickey Rourke as Henry Chinaski??

  • mickey.

    by a wide margin.

  • Who or what is a matt dillon?

  • I think he is an actor who play Henry Chinaski in Bent Hamer movie Faktotum!!!!

  • You sure? I've never heard of an actor called Matt Dillon (a boyish pin up yeah, but an actor???) I much prefer Mickey - thought Matt Dillon was a pale comparision: Mickey rules!

  • I am relay sure.I now Matt Dillon is not great actor but Chinaski is realy good rule for him!!

  • You see this.I am too drunk to speak now,Croatia beat Germany 2:1 and I am happy. All best to you!!!

  • I didn't know! Go Croatia! (Boban is the greatest player ever to grace a football pitch - I'm showing my age now ...)

  • They say that the Luka Modric is the better player then Boban but i dont now that.Boban is a genious!Tonight about 1 milion people sing, drink and dance and republic is in depp shit. But everyone go crazy when football is playing!!Lets go Yankees!!

  • You guys sing and dance and drink - Croatia's got my vote. You guys win through both ways. Greetings from england.

    Paul.

(P.s. The 96 team is my favourite team to ever play and Boban was the most graceful and beautiful player to ever live).

  • fuck u, croats are cocky fucks who think their shit doesn't stink.

  • Who are you.I m not animal like you.I agree with everything you wrote, but first sentences is something I dont understand

  • hey if anybody has this movie could they please post the whole thing because i just looked it up on amazon and the cheapest its going for is $80!!!!!!

  • Message me your address and I'll send you my copy. (I've seen it so many times it doesn't make sense anymore!!)

  • I loved this film. "To all my friends!"

  • A major studio would not go near a project like this at the time, knowing that Schroder wanted Mickey Rourke in the lead. Once production begun, Bukowski visited the set and witnessed Rourke rehearsing the apartment shadow boxing scene. He knew at that moment that this man has got it, although deep dowm he wanted an actor who was a drinker. The rumour has it that Mickey Rourke drank 7up with his biker pals at the premiere.

    Barfly is still endlessly watchable.

  • Charles Bukowski's life is nothing short of miracle (with lots of laughter)

  • I realized with this movie, either you love this flick or you can't stand it. If you like this movie, you'r a damm drunk!

    oh giggles

  • best movie ever. :P

  • A lot was invested into this movie at the time Mickey Rourke was the next possible big thing , now is still a fascinating movie..

  • Charles Bukowski, a legend.

  • fuck priests , is everyone a fuckin catholic

  • vey well directed and well writen, good actors

  • Someone put this movie on Youtube!

  • Its the Big Lebowsky of alcoholics

  • Prime Rourke.

  • Comments & Repsonses... I hate Comments & Repsonses, do you hate Comments & Repsonses?

No... but I seem to feel better when they're not around.
