I wish you idiots would stop asking this question. Notice how the helmet is tapered, and continues rearward towards the upper portion of his back? Do you see how this would serve to restrict the range of motion his head has? I assume he's trying to replicate actual riding conditions. If he were practicing WITHOUT his aero helmet, he may not be able to recreate the position his head would actually be at during a ride. It's about fit and consistency.
he is wearing a helmet to check his aero helmet fit in with the curve in his back, it is a lot more aerodynamic having the edge run flush to your back, so he is checking it.. simple...
The position looks good straight up, perhaps the saddle is a bit high, but your arms are at 90 degrees and the body is solid so if this is comfortable it looks good, but you will never know on a stationary trainer, you need to get out there and see how the different positions affect your times and what works.
I think you put a bit more into your right pedal downstroke than your left, so try and work on making sure that the pedal stoke isn't just left right left right left right, and try and make it a more fluid movement so pull back and up on the pedals in anticipation.
You look like you may not be high enough. I have read that your knee angle (at most extended point) should be ~150 degrees. Yours is only ~140 degrees.
At first I though the saddle was to high and you had too much weight forward. however, more weight forward is normal for a time trial position.
About the "flattening the foot" that is supposed to allow more power transfer but I think that the position you have shown here allows for effective cadence with a smooth circular motion and maximizing the advantage of your cleats for this pedaling technique.
Ok i personally think its great, a couple of things include leveling your feet , your saddle height is dead on for an even stroke and perfect cadence..

Okay, I don't know too much about the new trithlon type handlebars: I ride a mountain bike. But, it does seem you are too bent over; your visibility is reduced, and you will have an aching neck. In addition, it seems your saddle is too high. If you rode that way, without rollers, you would probably be wobbling back and forth. That would preoccupy you with controlling the bike, wasting energy. There, I hope that helps.
ride on rollers and then adjust your position. A trainer is fine for static testing of your position but you will never attempt a TT while mounted on your trainer... Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh and yawn too... boring.
no u stupid people that commented before me saying his seat is to high its fine thats the way road/triathlon bikes r supposed to be hes in the arrow position thats why he so low the bars r fine and so is his position. nice bike by the way i want a cervelo but i dont have the money for one
why are you asking us? why don't you go to a clinic or get a power meter to see what position allows you put to out the most power. your position is very aero, but if you can't put out the watts, it doesn't matter.
This dude is on a computrainer so will have a power reading and spin scan to evaluate his efficiency. He isn't dropping his heels which is a sign of his seat being too high. When his pedal is at 6 O'clock his knee joint should be flexed between 25-30 degrees. This avoids anterior and posterior knee strain.
I've got to believe your seat height is WAY too high and/or your calves are massively tight... do some gastroc and soleus stretches, bro!!! Also, I like the idea of wearing the helmet (occasionally, not all the time)... good neck exercise, gets you used to the real thing.....
To get use to wearing a helmet. I sweat a lot so I have a tendency to comb my hair with my hand to wick away the sweat; it has become a bad habit as I can't do it when I'm riding with a helmet. :(
@emerson24 He's wearing a helmet so people can check out his position. Your helmet is part of your position and keeping that line straight with your back is very important. He is not wearing it because he thinks he is going to fall.
@Auguste10 So it takes a helmet on to illustrate how aerodynamic someone is? LOL OK. Second, just "how" aerodynamic is he? How are you going to give me this in a tangible data that I can see? The only dumb-ass is you sonny boy. Now, get on your knees and lick my boots you little subservient imbecile. I will teach you the meaning of respect, son. You will worship the ground I walk on, is that clear? What is your name, son! You will report to me every day. And you will call me MASTER!
@omgshootit Right, because it is so dangerous when you are stationary. Do you walk much? I bet you wear a helmet at work, going from one side of the office to the other?
well, I would move the saddle back since your knee is not in line with the pedal axis when on 9-6 clock position. That would give you more power for TT.
I would suggest that he lower the seat. Then raise the stem up by stacking the headset. Though his position looks "good", for an IM distance, he's going to have big back discomfort. Agreed that the hips are rocking and to lower the seat. For neck and back comfort, raise the stem some. If only doing a sprint, then just lower the seat a tiny bit and leave the stem alone. For an IM, after 90 miles 'as is', you'll feel it in your back. It's not worth it to be that low for an IM.
Your seat is about an inch too high at least. Watch your hips rocking, that is a dead giveaway. It goes all the way up your back. Don't touch the front, just drop the seat down 1 inch and maybe back 1/4 inch.
If he does a lot of training indoors, then perhaps he's trying to replicate exactly how it will feel when he's outside/competing (presumably with a helmet).
Your gonna have a smelly carpet. The remarks about dropping your heels work for me too. Try filming yourself again and concentrate on how the power is translated at each point on the crank rotation. It makes sense to drop your heel but the power needs to go cyclicly. If you know what I mean.
