I'm a softie for animals and I hate cruelty . Events like bullfighting in Spain awful in my opinion. The bulls are wounded by the picador before the matator even goes out, so the animals are bleeding, weak and in pain.They have no chance.. but in bull riding, the bulls are at their strongest They can and often do get revenge on the dudes trying to ride them. I have mixed feelings about the sport, but at least in bull riding, unlike bullfighting, the bulls are given a fighting chance.

I agree. Red Wolf was a fantastic bull. Bodacious was probably the most impressive when he was on. But whether you rank him on scores or his hardness to successfully ride he wasnt the greatest. But he was ONE of the best and most impressive. Red Rock was attempted well over 300 times and ridden only 4 times and all by one man. This came after he had lost a step or two. And there are bulls that were better to score on. But on Bodacious's best trip he could match any bull alltime.
He was too inconsistent to be considered the greatest bucking bull ever. He is best known for his violent collisions. I have to say dillinger has to be #1. You don't get scored 48+ 9 times or have a lowest career score of 88.5. Then there is red wolf who only had 20 rides and the lowest being 89.5. They were alot more consistent bulls and would actually turn back

Contrary to the comments here, Tuff Hedeman actually did not ride the legendary Bocacious the full eight seconds, and out of 135 cowboys that mounted Bo, only 6 riders ever held on the full 8 seconds. Tuff was unfortunate enough to draw Bo 6 weeks after almost getting killed by him, and wisely "turned" him out, or dismounted before the bull left the gate. As a show of respect, he then tipped his hat to him as he trotted out of the stadium. Bodacious was retired shortly thereafter.
I think maybe Bodacious can do vector calculus. Maybe all bulls can do this. But Bodacious, he can just do it better. If Bodacious was human, he'd be Asian for sure. Bodacious is just good at math and science, especially physics. For a pupil, he's a headbanging star pupil. He can buck back and forth, to and fro, and then head-butt your face just like a swiss watch can tell time. Bodacious riders remind me of Timex, they takes a licking, and then they comes backs and takes another lickn.
How does this work? I was always under the impression that they hurt the bulls to get them to buck, but Bodacious looks to be on Que! All calm and cool until the gate opens. That bull is bad ass, I wonder why they would think a hockey mask with it's thin plastic would protect them. They should have used an Umpires mask.

@falken76 You need not torture a bull or a horse to get them to buck. If you'll watch the bucking animals in a rodeo you'll see that they are "flanked." There's a cinch or strap around the animal's body just in front of their hips which puts pressure on their flanks. I've never seen a bull, horse, or mule that wouldn't buck or kick when flanked.
It's not torture. It's kinda like people who are ticklish being poked in the ribs only to the bull or horse it's very very annoying.

Probably about 1 out of every 10 times they could get on him, I mean if they didn't get hurt bad. Sound about right do you think? I mean it's really hard to guess but this SOB was so damn hard to ride with his speed and power, even if he didn't perfect that head butt move. I think McBride in his prime would stand the best chance to maybe get up enough gumption to ride him and make the 8. Guilherme is more about riding consistant, I don't think he can get up for one ride like McBride could.

He was treated as a celebrity long into his retirement years. I've seen plenty of bulls in their pens between rides, being petted and doted on. Usually gentle as kittens, they are. They're only mean in the ring. Some noob bulls do just buck due to wanting someone off their back, sure. And some are angry and mean, and attack folks.
But some, like Bo, don't mean to hurt anyone, they just learn what it takes to buck good, and do it with passion and pride.
You folks saying it was cowardly to retire Bodacious... He was something different entirely. You just can't lump him with other bulls. He was way too dangerous, TOO good at his job. I don't blame them for pulling him out to save lives.
And to folks saying bull-riding is cruel, tons of bulls LOVE to do this, you can tell by their body language. Bo had pride in his abilities and perfected it to an art. Sure, some are angry, but he was a pro with skills. They're treated well and retire in style.

Sorry to say, but a 1200 lb. bull would be pretty tiny... They're usually over 2000 lbs. If I was riding one of my little cows weighing in at 1200, it wouldn't be all that bad. There is a lot of social activities for the life of a cowboy. You probably wouldn't know about it, since you're going to the gym, and doing your pillates, sipping on lattes, and getting your balls off on someone else's girlfriend's face.

He was treated as a celebrity long into his retirement years. I've seen plenty of bulls in their pens between rides, being petted and doted on. Usually gentle as kittens, they are. They're only mean in the ring. Some noob bulls do just buck due to wanting someone off their back, sure. And some are angry and mean, and attack folks.
But some, like Bo, don't mean to hurt anyone, they just learn what it takes to buck good, and do it with passion and pride.

You folks saying it was cowardly to retire Bodacious... He was something different entirely. You just can't lump him with other bulls. He was way too dangerous, TOO good at his job. I don't blame them for pulling him out to save lives.
And to folks saying bull-riding is cruel, tons of bulls LOVE to do this, you can tell by their body language. Bo had pride in his abilities and perfected it to an art. Sure, some are angry, but he was a pro with skills. They're treated well and retire in style.

Sorry to say, but a 1200 lb. bull would be pretty tiny... They're usually over 2000 lbs. If I was riding one of my little cows weighing in at 1200, it wouldn't be all that bad. There is a lot of social activities for the life of a cowboy. You probably wouldn't know about it, since you're going to the gym, and doing your pillates, sipping on lattes, and getting your balls off on someone else's girlfriend's face.
