...actually, I just found something better, there's footage of the Futurama ride on YouTube, but it doesn't allow me to post a link...'64-'65 NY World's Fair Futurama ride video...
..funny, GM didn't predict they'd be broke in less than 50 years!!
I remember The Futurama exhibit at the '64 World's Fair...I've thought about it a lot over the years...even tried to build my own little futuristic cities when I was a kid..I just looked up the brochure on line and found it, recently, you should check it out, if you're interested, it brings back a lot of memories...Todd used to sound like he was from the future, sort of...he always added a little bit of parody, too, which is, of course, what this is..what's up with all the bird footage, though?
Hi TR fans. I've got a couple TR covers on my youtube site to share with you all if you get time. There are some other covers, originals, and art there also. Stop on by.
I'm only 48, but I remember the world of tomorrow too. Now we're going backward. Women eschew science, supersonic airplanes are only for the military, every Mac peripheral costs $30 or more, and our new interstate bridge is going to be an ugly affair devoid of architectural interest. The things that have gotten better are world cuisine, beer, and open source everything. Your video is exactly what I envisioned for this song. Well done! BTW, my mom had gold lamé pants and wore them well.
I remember what the media projected the future might be back then. Many other things beside technology have changed since then, like social values. Let's build a better future. The future is now!
Very interesting. Instead of a vision of a future; we have 'the future' every year at the CES in Vegas. Now if you want a slice of the future it'll cost you a week's paycheck and be obsolete in 12-18 months.
No more interest in 500km/h bullet trains, just give ME my 4x4 SUV so I can sit in traffic with millions like me. Mad.
Excellent video...excellent music...you did him right man! Goosebumps...still. Thank you Todd for keeping the music alive and ethereal after 30+ years, no other musician can come close to what you've done and thank you Cordt for capturing the essence of this song so perfectly...woot!
That's what's so ironic: major expositions, such as World's Fairs and Expos, used to provide showcases for innovative technology, research, and product development - whetting the appetites of consumers and giving them things to look forward to acquiring; whereas, nowadays, they just take for granted - as 'necessities' - those products that, until relatively recently, would have been regarded as extravagant!
Thank you so much. We need a vision of the future now more than ever. In the early 60's, our culture had goals, and prosperity. Then there was the "swing to the right."
It's not as "futuristic" sounding as some of the stuff he did in the 70's like "Spark of Life", "An Elpee's Worth of Tunes", "In and Out the Chakra's We Go", but it effectively captures the mock-futuristic feel from yesteryear.
Watching this video made me want to have a Nuka-Cola....gnaw on some dog meat....swallow some Rad-X....grab my chain gun...and then set out from Megaton in search of more adventure in the Capital Wasteland ! (if you don't have 'Fallout 3' yet, you need to get it !)
Our future turned out to be a Fascist Corporate Theocratic police state enforced by torture. It is all happening gradually. Searches, tasering, Habeas Corpus gone and any kind of future where quality of life matters, forget it. The oceans are dying, the forests and animals are dying, the air and water are becoming poisonous. Insane religious nuts have their hand on the nuclear trigger. "Tell me when Lord." Not what I was hoping for.
And let's not forget the coming North American Union with canada and mexico, the Security and Prosperity Partnership ceding of our sovereignty, the coming seizure of all of our guns, the illegal alien invasion of 20 million, the destruction of our middle class and final repeal of the Constitution as China takes over.
Very Nice Indeed! I too remenber the future! About your same age and lived all my life in Flint MI so know all about GM. Long love affair with TR. Great vid for this song.

Corporatism doesn't want us thinking about a better future.

It's not the corporations: it's the consumers.
