  • ...actually, I just found something better, there's footage of the Futurama ride on YouTube, but it doesn't allow me to post a link...'64-'65 NY World's Fair Futurama ride video...

..funny, GM didn't predict they'd be broke in less than 50 years!!

  • I remember The Futurama exhibit at the '64 World's Fair...I've thought about it a lot over the years...even tried to build my own little futuristic cities when I was a kid..I just looked up the brochure on line and found it, recently, you should check it out, if you're interested, it brings back a lot of memories...Todd used to sound like he was from the future, sort of...he always added a little bit of parody, too, which is, of course, what this is..what's up with all the bird footage, though?

  • Wow ... I just love this video you created -- it fits this song perfectly!

  • Hi TR fans. I've got a couple TR covers on my youtube site to share with you all if you get time. There are some other covers, originals, and art there also. Stop on by.

  • Truly Futuristic! Streamlined! Awesome! Todd!

  • Todd, the musical mad world scientist!! haha! the wizard

  • I'm only 48, but I remember the world of tomorrow too. Now we're going backward. Women eschew science, supersonic airplanes are only for the military, every Mac peripheral costs $30 or more, and our new interstate bridge is going to be an ugly affair devoid of architectural interest. The things that have gotten better are world cuisine, beer, and open source everything. Your video is exactly what I envisioned for this song. Well done! BTW, my mom had gold lamé pants and wore them well.

  • cordt1,

Beautifully done, thank you so much!!

  • Give me real righteous psychic/hyperdimensional powers so that I can fly/warp through the ether better than an Ultraterrestrial Heat Critter

  • Nice footage, really suits the song. This could have been an official video. well done.

  • I remember what the media projected the future might be back then. Many other things beside technology have changed since then, like social values. Let's build a better future. The future is now!

  • Very interesting. Instead of a vision of a future; we have 'the future' every year at the CES in Vegas. Now if you want a slice of the future it'll cost you a week's paycheck and be obsolete in 12-18 months.

No more interest in 500km/h bullet trains, just give ME my 4x4 SUV so I can sit in traffic with millions like me. Mad.

  • Loved the video you created for this song.

  • Screw the politicians, they all, well most, are using us.

  • Thanks for this awesome vid!

  • spirallingly uplifting! cordt for governor of California! ! !

  • this tune is always good...great beat, funky rhythm, cool words...great dance tune believe it or not...LUV todd...

  • the way i felt when i first went over the golden gate bridge

  • Excellent video...excellent music...you did him right man! Goosebumps...still. Thank you Todd for keeping the music alive and ethereal after 30+ years, no other musician can come close to what you've done and thank you Cordt for capturing the essence of this song so perfectly...woot!

  • excellent video, gorgeous visuals that seem entirely in sync with the song. thanks!

  • Great job! Love this video!

  • @umpfco yeah great job cordt!!!

  • Yes, I remember the futuristic World's Fair. I wish I had the bronze car @ 3:31. Nice video work! I

  • my fave lp of the 00's....for real.....such a rewarding record...lyrically deep, amazing vocals....

  • @KOSMICKEN09 I totally agree! Still play it all the time. Todd is brilliant!!!

  • This whole cd is excellent. Track 3 I could live without. Liars is great though.

  • What cd is this on?

  • The name of the cd is called Liars. Excellent.

  • CHEMTRAILS the plains are chemtrails.

  • Boy, you sure did a Todd song justice...AWESOME!!

  • Here's proof that doves will play synthesizers in the future.

    Seriously...thanks for the fine video!

What happened to the future, anyway? Coincidentally, lately, I've been thinking about, and missing, the World's Fairs and Expos...!

  • Corporatism doesn't want us thinking about a better future.

  • That's what's so ironic: major expositions, such as World's Fairs and Expos, used to provide showcases for innovative technology, research, and product development - whetting the appetites of consumers and giving them things to look forward to acquiring; whereas, nowadays, they just take for granted - as 'necessities' - those products that, until relatively recently, would have been regarded as extravagant!

It's not the corporations: it's the consumers.

    Simply put: they're spoiled!

  • Really, really nicely done with the images (-:

  • Great song from an awesome record, probably Todd's best ever album.

  • Great job improving our listening with your vision. Really nice video!

  • A way-cool toon that perfectly addresses my sadness for having my future stolen from me by the Mega Corporations greed and sociopathy.

  • Oh yea... and Happy Birthday Mr T!!! (22nd of June)

  • I just had to watch this again..I can never get enough of Todd's music. It's been like a soundtrack for my life.

  • This is a very well-done video and I know Todd would have approved it for his "Future" song from "Liars" cd.

  • Thank you so much. We need a vision of the future now more than ever. In the early 60's, our culture had goals, and prosperity. Then there was the "swing to the right."

  • What nonsense.

  • He was making a reference to a Utopia song out in '82.

  • Any radical swings to the right or to the left throw us off course to a Brighhter Tomorrow.

  • It's not as "futuristic" sounding as some of the stuff he did in the 70's like "Spark of Life", "An Elpee's Worth of Tunes", "In and Out the Chakra's We Go", but it effectively captures the mock-futuristic feel from yesteryear.

  • totally agree

  • I can kinda see your point, but the counterpoint for this song might be that "The future.....is now"!

  • Amazing tune from Todd

  • Truly...the wizard & true star...I can't help but love any of his work,...

  • I want my flying car.

  • yea...where do we get those again ?

  • Spacely Sprockets makes them I think....

  • oh yea !!!...but do they come with a flux capacitor ?

  • 1andoneis3:

    Wasn't Judy seriously the hottest?

  • Watching this video made me want to have a Nuka-Cola....gnaw on some dog meat....swallow some Rad-X....grab my chain gun...and then set out from Megaton in search of more adventure in the Capital Wasteland ! (if you don't have 'Fallout 3' yet, you need to get it !)

  • great song

  • "The future ain't what it used to be." - Yogi Berra

  • phrophetic or what kids

  • haleohualil:

    More like "Retro/Present Prophetic."

  • prrrrfect

  • prrrrfect

  • simply sublime lets have some more please

  • @haleohualil Without a doubt !!

  • Great 1st video, Cordt. As a big fan of both Todd Rundgren AND World's Fairs, I give you a big thumbs UP! How about doing one to Healing next? :)

  • Nice video, but for the record, a bunch of that footage is from 1939 and/or outside the LA convention center.

  • Simply wonderful! Perfectly melds the dreams and visuals of that most wonderful time in America. Thank you for such thoughtful craftmanship.

  • Great work cordt!

  • Another outstanding song by Todd - the CD this comes from is UNBELIEVABLE. I listen to it every day. thanks

  • Our future turned out to be a Fascist Corporate Theocratic police state enforced by torture. It is all happening gradually. Searches, tasering, Habeas Corpus gone and any kind of future where quality of life matters, forget it. The oceans are dying, the forests and animals are dying, the air and water are becoming poisonous. Insane religious nuts have their hand on the nuclear trigger. "Tell me when Lord." Not what I was hoping for.

  • How do you remain so optimistic?

  • @cordt1

    because the alternative is unacceptable?

  • And let's not forget the coming North American Union with canada and mexico, the Security and Prosperity Partnership ceding of our sovereignty, the coming seizure of all of our guns, the illegal alien invasion of 20 million, the destruction of our middle class and final repeal of the Constitution as China takes over.

  • riiiiight

  • As Yogi Berra supposedly said, "The future ain't what it used to be." Nice vid.

  • Wonderful, simple, rhythmic like the song. Great editing, in both choices and their timings! Congrats, Cordt. Really great video!

The song pulses true-to-form in Todd's own powerful, cosmic, love vibe space. Like it's always been there. Thanks for another killer song, TR!

  • Outstanding Art ! Lovely storytelling of a time before quarter pounders. More More ... before there is nothing more to say.

  • Very Nice Indeed! I too remenber the future! About your same age and lived all my life in Flint MI so know all about GM. Long love affair with TR. Great vid for this song.

  • Thanks, I remember hearing Open My Eyes on a jukebox when I was thirteen,(1968)and wondering why everyone in the world wasn't excited about it. I had a friend whose father knew rock lyrics were influencing his kids. I remember his father asking "What does he mean by "I hang around with people and they don't suspect a thing"?"
