Wow! Fantastic rendition! CHARMINE was written by Erno Rapee' and Lew Pollack expressly for the 1926 Silent Film WHAT PRICE GLORY?, Directed by Raoul Walsh. Charmaine was the name of Dolores Del Rio's character in the picture. Based on the popular stage hit, and Fox answer to MGM's blockbuster THE BIG PARADE (1925), with John Gilbert and Renee Adoree, WHAT PRICE GLORY? starred Victor McLaglen and Edmund Lowe as on again off again fudeing war buddies, Sergent Quirt and Captain Flag.
A generation before this, Guy Lombardo had a such a monster hit with his tune that he became associated with "Sweet" music and pretty much dropped his "Hot side.
When i get home from work every evening, i put this on to wind down. Of the 61,000 views you have had, 59,000 were from me. Thank you so much, you are a joy to listen to.
You have a great musical gift. You make real music, with mind, heart and soule. Isnt it a shame that people have forgoten the great feeling that brings real music?
@paulban You too! I've a keyboard I bough years back and with no training whatsoever, play it on occasion. There's something very satisfying to develop and play by ear.
Música celestial, música de dioses, fabuloso. Un virtuoso del órgano electrónico (¡como lo envidio sanamente!). Me encantaría tocar la mitad de como lo hace él. ¡ Felicitaciones!
Thanks, you are very kind too! But I think a keyboard is a lot of metal and plastic and only when it is played it becomes an instrument. So, the credit goes fully to you! Ok, tomorrow I will record and upload my humble version. I have a clavinova.
Hi, paulban, what a nice song! Just want to know, did you read the notes or you just played it by your hearing? I do play organ too, but I'm good at hearing than reading.
Thanks for your kind comment. I have to tell you that all the music I play is by ear. My music reading is very bad ! Technics are the best !! It's sad they don't make them any more.
Yet another beautiful song. I remember that one from when I was young some eons back. If you continue with these songs I will probably start up my old Yamaha keyboard and try to figure out how to play once more.

@goldenmoviepalace Hi, Thanks for all that info! Is there any truth in the rumour that Rapee & Pollack was a pseudonym for Mantovani himself?
Best wishes, Paul

Hi Again,
I hope my playing brought you some happy memories of your Mom.
Best Wishes, Paul.

Indeed, Thank you Paul. She had surgery on her throat, and could never really sing again.
She told me of all the things she missed, she missed her voice the most.
I'd like to think she is now singing with the angels in heaven.

Hi, It's the verses to the song words as follows
I can't forget the night we met, how bright were stars above.
That precious memory lingers yet, when you declared your love.
And then you went away and now each night and day.
Chorus: I wonder why you keep me waiting, Charmaine, my Charmaine .......
Second verse:
You went away one dreary day, I knew you had to go.
Mid tears and cheers I heard you say "Charmaine I love you so"
Though old years turn to new, My heart keeps calling you
Regards Paul
