I somehow pulled this off with the X2. I arrived in about 80 days at an encounter velocity of around 4k. I think I get worse at orbiter as the days go by.

I know how to get to Mars or any other planet or moon using IMFD. Load the DGIV on earth then enter PRO903SPEC90 or PRO904SPEC90. then once in low orbit use prograde for higer orbit. Then Watch Europe to Callisto tutorial and instead of

Reference: Jupiter or Callisto

Target: Callisto

change it to

Reference: Sun or Mars(any other planet)

Target: Mars(any other planet

IT WORKS!!!!! I made it to Mars doing that. :)

The end of this video makes me think of the very unique and poignant experience that the first people who go to Mars will encounter... watching their homeworld shrink and turn into a distant point of light in the first couple of weeks. No astronaut yet has had to go without being able to look out the window and see home at some point. I wonder what kind of psychological effect the lack of that view for months may have on a person.

Finally had Orbiter, and after two weeks i could bearly do Earth-Moon transits while still figuring out the transfer mode, and every interplanetary trip i tried out failed to get me closer than half a million kilometers without overshooting Venus or Mars,and without having to refuel. Are you suppose to establish orbits around the Sun in transfer rather than select the intended planet?

I just started experimenting with Orbiter 2010 a few days ago, but I've already learned a lot. In your video, when you accelerate time as you're going away from earth, I noticed that the earth stays perfectly centered in your view. How do you keep the craft from yawing during your time acceleration? When I go to the moon, I have to slow down every few seconds to fix my yaw so that the moon stays centered in my view.

awsome video and part 2 aswell! i dont know how to use transX, so i downloaded and installed an addon called IMFD which is an autopilot which gets you to any planet within the solar system, but it does take time. it took me a few days to master the addon, but thanks to the new drivers for the graphic cards, the atmospheres are all gone, causing problems. the only orbiter which still has no problems is the 2009 beta, but some addons dont work (like the DGIV) ill just wait until the final release

Adding this to favs. I have been going nuts trying to get to Mars. I can take off from Florida, dock with the space station and come back. As well as making it to the Moon and back.  But Mars...eesh no. I just can't figure out TransX yet, but that's because the instructions are confusing as hell lol.

I just use transfer to get to the moon, getting back sometimes takes a bit of luck, but most of the time I make it back without crashing into the planet =D

Great vid! Do you know of any good transX tutorials? I'm just trying to get to the moon with the Saturn V. I also noticed towards the end when you started to warp up the speed you were rotating slightly, was that intentional? Have you heard of "Absolute KillRot" mod in Orbit Hanger? It helps for faster warp speeds.

I've been flying Orbiter for Three years. Im Still learning a lot. However I love it when I learn a new skill or what not. Nothing quite like your first redevous are first lunar trip. Most recently I have learned to use teh IMFD to make a trip to mars. Still though I need to learn to make sling shots so I can travel further into the solar system.
