I Have kept snakes for over 15 years and have never fed live, its immoral and wrong. In the wild they eat live cuz they don't have a choice, in captivity they can be fed frozen and plus once in the vivarium the prey has no way of getting away like in the wild.

If the snake is much wider and longer then you would up the size of the meal to rats, rabbits and so forth. I don't think you see a 20 foot python that can swallow a deer swallowing a 2-3 inch mouse very often.

Question... Did the rabbit bite into your snake at all.. or scratch..
My girl is getting quite large, and needs to step up a notch with the size of food she consumes.. large rats arent an option for me as when she was young i got a huge fright when a rat decided it didnt want to be food and bit into my snake.

@MrSahara93 hey dude if your snake is a pet (and not a wild rehab or whatever) then there is no reason why you couldn't use a frozen/thawed or pre-killed rabbit, its all the same to the snake, with none of the cruelty issues or potential damage to your snake. i wouldn't risk it personally, rabbits have some serious chompers.

@MissGigiRocks101 No not necessarily. Small snakes such as corns, rats and a few others you would feed mice. If the snake is much wider and longer then you would up the size of the meal to rats, rabbits and so forth. I don't think you see a 20 foot python that can swallow a deer swallowing a 2-3 inch mouse very often.

fuck it is a sham that the rabbit was so cute but it is nature. i really don't like it when they hold the prey in front of the snake and don't give it a chance to move around.yer great set up i have a 1 and a half coastal iv just started feeding him adult rats.

@143143B what is it going to eat? i honestly dont agree with live feeding though, i always feed either prekilled or frozen thawed. i have a coastal X diamond carpet python right now, and i feed her large rats, but when she gets bigger, i will have to feed her even bigger food.
btw, all the todents that i feed my snakes were bred to be feeders.

Unless you're vegetarian, you too are a murderer then. Pigs, chickens & cows (and all other animals we see as food) can also look cute & gentle, yet we slaughter them in far more horrible ways just to have our T-bone, nugget or porkchop.
THE difference: snakes MUST eat meat or die, we choose to eat meat and kill/rape/torture humans for fun, go human race!
