@usnavy81887 I've used a parachute, and that was extremely avoidable. Steering and braking are more intuitive and easier than on a car, and he attempted neither, he just lifted his legs. I could hit dixie cups on my fifth jump. And you should know at no less than 500 ft exactly where you're going to land. Drinking and jumping don't mix. There was no excuse for that. BTW, have YOU ever used a parachute?

U.S. Military brainwashing, I mean, "training", depending how a person was previously educated and raised, sometimes removes desirable good attributes from a person, especially if you go the enlisted route. They try to build you back up their way. The irony is, most, if not, all of the soldiers in that formation are at least taught basic first aid, they could have reacted too. Not much sympathy there except for the few good ones that broke formation to tend to the wounded and yell for a medic.

From what I know they learn that in basic training. Unless a line broke or some incredibly unlikely scenario unfolded after he crossed the 1000' threshold, he should have cut away well before beginning his approach. If you open (a typical altitude is anywhere between 2500'-3500') and find that you are having issues that prevent you from safely piloting and controlling your canopy, especially in a crowded LZ then you cut that shit away ASAP.
