  • uh you need to go to the year back when there where puritans in new endland around 1620-1700 they called women property and if they ran away they would be hanged for stealing them self they always stayed at home while the men were doing something important so you women have much better also cant you make a vid on men we have to be strong, leaders, protectors, good looking, and smart but you dont care

  • gay vid k again your are trying to change men if we like big boobs and blue eyes and blond hair so be thats what we like and thats what we want

  • true video. valuable indeed.

  • love the video .....SO TRUE

    keep good work

  • It is about a year old... this video... Even if it was made earlier than that, nothing has changed. There is still some sort of "standard" that every woman must have certain features in order to be considered beautiful.

  • Maybe, but one point in this video is that white is where it's at. Seems like there are a lot of black beauty icons in the media these days (and that was my central point). Even then, the rules were changing, but now they have changed. Beyonce and Hallie Barri are both black women who are conventional fashion icons.

  • Going back to what I said before, there are still certain features (whether it be skin color, hair, breasts size, etc.) that determine whether a woman is "beautiful" in the media. Granted, the "In" features have changed over the years; the trend of the woman's body has fluctuated over the decade

    (cont.)

  • (cont...) - ie muscular women at one point were considered the most "attractive" and at another point very overweight women were considered "attractive." The trend of our bodies keeps changing but women only pain themselves even more by paying any attention to this trend.

  • decades*

  • That is true. The irony being that this is not predominantly a male enforced standard (at least not regular males on the street). Most of my friends strongly disagree with the media view on attractiveness. Now, having said that, I don't disagree that societal standards are unfair to most human beings, and that women are supposed to conform to a beauty standard (and men to a toughness standard) that are completely artificial. I was trying to point out one flaw in a 20 year old documentary.

  • u are right ode!

  • uh oh, looks like I struck a nerve. the truth hurts.

  • looks like I hit a nerve. truth hurts, deal with it.

  • She's right for the most part. I never see scrolling banners that say "Get your free mail order husband now"... and Asian women are always portrayed as things that you bang and throw away.

  • type in beauty tips by shelly its funny

  • unattractive women absolutely aren't the only ones who are upset about the limited perspective of beauty. And I don't know a single woman who loves negative attention. You're acting exactly as this video suggests you would, grouping women into a category of attention seeking, needy people. Get over yourself. Your comment only proves this woman right.

  • No its not just unattractive women its women who are victims of rape, molestation and physical abuse.I am a very attractive woman and I am not happy about negative attention in the least.Women deserve respect and a safe world.

  • how is it a "hate crime" lol

its not sexist to look at women, its sexist to portray them as sex objects, and make real women not feel good enough.

afterall, a real woman wouldn't need to enhance her chest, no matter what size. ads make real women undesirable and persuade men into wanting women with larger breasts, so some women get surgery.

Isn't plastic surgery just Domestic Violence in disguise?

  • I totally agree with you on this. I think it is Domestic Violence in disguise...I totally agree...

  • Thanks for bringing in the race dynamic. It is so frustrating to see how it all works together, but also good to see it drawn together to think about.
