@Uploader ... what you also have to understand is that Major Kaduna and General Ironsi had different views... Major kaduna did the Coup for his selfish self.. Ironsi took power to stabilize the goverment and nothing else..to say it is not an Ibo coup on the side of the General is Agreeable

The second is with General Ironsi haven foiled the coup in the South and the military elements in the North and South beckoning on him to serve would our ex president then a sleepy member of the !st Republic's parliament proffered a better solution to the crisis? if so then why did he not? The truth remains the fact that power was voluntarily given to Gen Ironsi and no force on earth or propaganda can make it look otherwise. I seek not vengeance but must we forget?

Shehu Shagari and his ilk claim that Ironsi seized power from their rump of parliament, Let us assume that the man who bungled Nigeria's glory in the years 1979-1983 was right, Yet i have two questions for him. The first being would the likes of Shehu Shagari been able to stop Nzoegwu's rampaging northern force then in Kaduna and which was planning to storm Lagos and finish of what the likes of Arinze Ifeajuna could not complete?,

Akinjide was a cabinet member and was present when Ironsi and co stormed in and forcefully took power from them. Shagari, a cabinet member then has also corroborated Akinjide's story. The cabinet NEVER unanimously handed over to Ironsi. He unilaterally took power from them. Orizu came up with authoritatve lies to cover Ironsi's ass.

@Fontabele, The great Zik was simply confirming the information at his disposal as given by the then Nigeria 1st acting president Dr. Nwafor Orizu ( Not Ironsi and Co, please don't distort facts on this video). If Akinjide & Shagari were not present at the cabinet meeting where cabinet unanimously handed power to Ironsi, that does not in anyway deduct authenticity of the cabinet decision, hence they were enough to form quorum. Please lets go by the authoritative facts.

Zik wasn't in Nigeria at the time. So, he was just repeating whatever he was told by Ironsi and co. Members of the Federal Executive Council, Richard Akinjide, a minister and Shehu Shagari both recently said that after learning of Balewa's death, members met and unanimously appointed Alhaji Zanar Bukar Dipcharima as "prime minister". "We did not hand over to Ironsi, he forcefully took power from us." Both Akinjide and Shagari are still alive and healthy, if in doubt contact them.

That's the reason Aguiyi ironsi took over and was already working on transfering power to civilians after conducting a free and fair election. He said it in his broadcast to the nation. O God! Please disband Lugard's cage. The ethnic and religious hatred in it is overwhelming. Why hate leaders of Igbo extraction who have contributed so much for the freedom of Nigerians but love those who have destroyed Nigeria.
