What a beautiful fish. You are right that it is better to release, but it takes a long time go teach people the importance of catch and release.

The majority of the time, the real big ones are female ... and if you catch them in the Spring, they may be coming right out of their spawning grounds ...

Pike is actually a wonderful fish to eat (if you know how to filet them), but the best eating pike are much smaller ... probably 24-35 inches

But, it is still a beautiful fish.

Very impressive Pike. Here in the USA, Minnesota, we have Muskie, they get very large. Even compared to Muksie, that is a great Pike.

I release bigger Pike here too, as I repect them a lot, and they get almost as Big as Muskie if the big Pike are protected.

I still eat ones 2 to 6 pounds (1 to 3 kg). The lakes can handle small Pike being eaten.

The big ones are too important to eat.

Yes, this was recorded with a cheap analog camera, and encoded to digital format. Did some noise reduction and color correction as well, to make it look better. :)

The rod is meant to be used as shock absorber, keep it pointed up, and tighten that drag a little. Nice fish.

i know it's a fiveteen ago so you probably improved loads, but your drag was way to loose, and you was reeling while your fish was running, which increases the line intensity for it to snap.

let the reel and rod do as much work as possible, which you did'nt do. if you use semi barbed hooks like i do, then having your line that loose could just make the hook pull out.

great catch though. very well done.

Nice fish but very lucky to land it in my opinion.

Tip 1: Keep the tip of your rod up unless you are trying to keep a hooked fish from jumping clear of the water.

Tip 2: Let your rod, reel and drag work to tire the fish.

Hopefully people bring both camera and a valid weight thing (dont know the english word) to register the fish without have to kill it nowdays. Killing those huge pikes is just insane. Next time stop reeling the fish when it's pulling and let your rod to the work. This will tire the fish and will safe your gear. I can clearly hear that you're trying to reel in the line as the drag is giving line...to stop it from breaking

Jag tycker det e larv detta med att släppa tillbaka fisk! Iofs kan det ju vara bra om det är ngt specieficerast om arten, t ex nära att utrotas e dyl. Vad ska du ha en 15-kilosgädda hemma för? Ska du äta den? Den smakar ungefär som granved blandat med sand. Spelar roll om det finns massor gäddor? Det finns miljarder människor på jorden, ska vi avverka dom också? Bara för att det finns många gäddor på vissa platser så kan det finnas få på andra. Och om alla släpper tillbaka så kan fler få chansen att håva in en storgädda. Exempel, du kan tipsa en kompis om stället och låta han få samma gädda på kroken. Du är ego och trögtänkt.

This fish was caught 15 years ago. I am sorry it was killed, but back then, in 1993 (here in Norway), there was no "catch and release" regarding pike-fishing. Of course that has changed now, and since approx. 1995 we have released all our fish back into the water again.
