  • I'm getting a Karelian Bear Dog, I'm so excited!

  • This shit was hurting my ears

  • Though I disagree the whole 'not for children' thing, they are very loyal and devoted, and they are very clever, training them isn't all that hard, they aim to please.

  • Such an amazing breed, I wish they were more popular. I've got a KBD mix, but he's mostly KBD. Still, watching them track bears and mountain lions is just amazing, they are excellent dogs and very lovable!

  • I saw one at our shelter. She was a very talkative little rascal.

  • Is this whole film of kbd?

  • they are so cute and cool like a bear is WOW

  • Was this recorded through your toaster?

  • My KBD is named Star Destroyer. All other KBDs are inferior.

  • Patrol the town with Perro, he can spot out disturbances.

  • "Doggy odor?" That mop water and Fritos smell my aunt's dog gets every month?

  • We had a Karelian here at my practice job just the other day (animal hospital). Really cute one. Haven't really met one before, but I guess they are farely common here in the north Sweden... So close to Finland. lol ^^

  • I have a KBD , Best Dog Ever.

  • Looks like an akita

  • Hello eevrybody...i saw this dog and i loved it...me and my three kids want to adopt one...a female until 1 years old....the problem is that i live in Greece and we don;t have these dogs here!!!! Does anybody know were i can find one;

  • @zageo2006 sorry man but i dont think they would take the heat in greece to well . they are suited for nordic climate :P

  • i think this was recorded with a potato

  • Does anyone know where I can find such a dog????? BTW I'm from Belgium. XD

  • @Cedricske12 Finland?

  • they are used in Montana Idaho wyoming as a tool to scare bears in release settings by the forest service......Funny thing is the are independant by nature so for them to come to you when called takes some time and training.

  • A rescue/cadaver dog specialist gave a guest lecture for my forensic anthropology class and brought in two KBDs for us to see. They were well behaved and responded to commands in Finnish. Several people in the class volunteered to serve as role players (pretending to be lost) and they will go out to a training area and the dogs will conduct their search training with them. It really is a fascinating breed of dog.

  • that looks like a border collie lol :-0

  • i own one in canada he is beast

  • These dogs have Sisu.

  • @allu771 The great, finnish Sisu. Takes them far with their lives.

  • I live i southern Sweden and got one little boy /3,5 months now). But it will be trained to hunt wild boars and seeking for wounded animals. I love the dog.

  • i´m from finland :)

  • they kinda look like Border Collies. just saying.

  • I have a KBD and I really love that dog. She has two different personalities, one when she hunts and another at home.

As she hunts she is 100% focused on what she does and nothing else exists and at home playing and really loves to be in the center so everyone can see her.

  • @skytte89 Thats same at us but we have two of them

  • @9juf Ok, we had one before but she died at the age of 16. So we decided to get one more cause we really love this dog.

  • There now being bread in Alaska as well.

  • i wish the vid was more clear

  • These dogs are amazing, my uncel and cousin have several.

They're such good hunting dogs and really nice with people

  • It's like an akita crossed with a border collie!

  • ÖMG fuooock oooooooooooooff,

  • I grew up with Karelians and have seen several litters through the years. If you're thinking of getting one there's a few things to take into consideration:

    1) Never get a male unless you're really sure of what you're doing.

    2) Never get the alpha male unless you're a hunter (seriously).

    3) If you have kids the dog will be perfect with them if it's their JOB. Always introduce kids to the dog.

    4) Treat it like and adult. It's not a pet; it's a companion. Treated as such it will shine.

  • I live in Finland, and I have seen few KBD and they are good hunting dogs. Once I have been whit have been loving and gentle outside dogs. I cant see eny reason to take KBD for other than huntting. They are working dogs.

  • i used to have one but he was too protective so i had to give him away

  • do you think i can keep one of these in the city if i give it alot of exercise i walk 3-4 miles 5 times a wk

  • We have a Karelian here at home.

    His name is Bear.

He is awesome. He's a goof ball

  • 1. Get this dog

    2. Name it bear

    3. ???

    4. A loving companion 4 life!

  • @UndercoverPegasus i hope you live in the countryside... these dogs are not good for the city..

  • hmm. i have been interested in a kbd due to the high bear population in our area (northern alberta), but am hesitant on getting one because i am not an experienced dog trainer. would it be that hard to train these dogs to keep the bears at bay around the farm? would they not naturally put the run on a bear? most farmers in our area simply shoot the bears. i dont like it. i feel this would be a great alternative, but how many experience dog trainers have bear problems? any info appreciated

  • oh my god what a bunch of BULLSHIT about not being a good family dog. we've had karelian bear dogs since i was 4yrs old and they are great gentle "giants" even towards kids from other families. indeed you have to know what ur doing when training this dog or things will get ugly

  • you have to be hunter if you have karelian bear dog this dog is even stronger then rottweiler so you have to be very careful

  • they are a good breed not many breeds today overbreeded and inbreeded by show breeder, backyard breeder, and puppy mills making them susceptible w/ a lot of sickness and illness. So just thinking about it, we can say that dogs before are way healthier and mutts today are also healthier than most pure breed because they have good gene pool and not breeding brother and sister or grandfather and grand daughter.

  • @ASIANBOYZPRODUCTION Mutts aren't healthier than pure bred because they can inherit disorders and sickness from every breed that was used to create them.

  • @Lawrence1443 not at all, do research because it's not a myth but a proven theory. Pure breds have a lot of mutations in the genes. If you knew genetics then you would understand that mutation is one of the main cause of sickness for the dogs. Mutts in the other hand have better genetics since they have lesser mutation than the pure breds.

  • this breed isnt all hyped up to be :P

  • Holy shit these dogs are badass. They probably cant even neuter them cause they've got balls of steel.

  • i remember this one time when I was at a JFR camp, we stayed a couple nights at a place that had a guy with a couple of these dogs. One of them was sitting by the campfire and gradually everyone around me drifted over to hang out by him. When I was sitting by myself by the trees, he kept barking and growling at me, getting aggitated until I went and sat with everyone else. Once I was there he planted himself in front of me and continued to stare intently into the trees.

  • @sylveka

(con't) I think he wanted us to get away from something we didn't know was there. He was the best dog I have ever met and I definitely love this breed. He seemed to favor me above everyone else though because he didn't really leave me alone until we had to leave.

  • @sylveka Describes them perfectly. If you're walking them they will track their surroundings constantly.

We had one three time champion who actually got ran over by a car trying to drag one of his grown up pups that'd escaped and got ran over before him. He was 14 at the time and knew how to stay off the road and knew not to mess with cars. He wouldn't leave his pup though....

  • @interista7878 Did he die when he got hit? :'(

  • Still not as brave as a chiwawa lol

  • Where do these people get their info? All these titles and most of them have really no clue. I/we have a Karelian Bear Dog. The best dog I have ever had. Yes, they are stubborn, but nothing that anyone can’t handle. As far as kids are concerned, again an awesome dog. It is really sad to see, that a dog informational TV show really hasn’t done there homework.

  • a few of these live near my aunts house and every time i take her dog on a walk the karelian bear dogs always bark!

  • What's a BC?

  • @SavonTheMonster Border Collie.

  • The background sound in this video is annoying!

  • I've never heard of these dogs, they remind me of collie cross akita's :) They are cute but i think i'll stick to a BC as i don't think there are any near here.

  • The Karelian Bear Dog is actually famous for being a very good family dog. I loved mine!

  • My KBD knows how to escape. She has dug almost 2 meters deep hole under the fence and has climbed over 2 meters high fence.

  • i hate this dog

  • @Carrylane1000 I love the Karelian Bear Dog and even though i live in Nebraska. so say what you want about the karelian bear dog but when it comes to dogs give a karelian bear dog any day

  • With a proper trainer these dogs get very well along with even small children and other dogs. My good friend had a KBD, which was a hunting dog but also a family pet. There was never problems with anything. Sadly, the dog passed away few years ago.

  • these dogs like to dig. my cousin has one and that damn thing diged her way under 2 meters deep fence.

  • hands down the worst quality ever... Please update your software!

  • lol i just found out my dog was this breed unfortunatley when we got him someone had his tail cut =/

  • This is so lie! My moms bro has these dogs ALOT! and mostly they are nice dogs, they are always licking you when you come near them, only bad thing is that they are noicy as hell!

  • My 2 year old KBD Sasha is great with kids & people just loves them other dogs can be a different story sometimes she will play with them but if they show no respect to her she will fight in a heartbeat & doesn't care how big they are & she will hunt anything. She is my babygirl:-)

  • We got one and we have an apartment, its fine! But I do dress up in a bear costume about once a week and let him chase me up a tree, sometimes he gives my sac a pretty good bite! Stuffed animals, teddy bears arew out of the question too. And he did eat all our funrniture, carpet, and most shoes, other than that no problems.

  • This dog was quite popular in USSR and was bread as hunting dog. I knew many people with this dog. What's true - not a pet. You really should know dogs and have experience with huskies before you go for KBD. Having owned more than 10 dogs I personally wouldn't touch it. My brother, who is much more of a dog guy, had great experience with them though. But he is a hunter and has land to keep them.

  • @ozepo You obviously know dogs. THANK YOU! I own a KBD and they are a very special breed, and as you said, I hope they don't become popular because that will ruin this truely wonderful breed of dog!

  • @wally42069 They will never be popular. They are not pets, as I said. They are strictly business.

I don't have dogs for 3 reasons any more - 1., they don't live as long as we do, I think everybody knows what I mean. 2 - my granddaughter is severely allergic to any dogs and cats

3 - living in NY, even suburban NY - you don't have enough outside space for people, forget the dogs.

I would live to get another Siberian Husky, though. If you install right relationship w/dog - great experience.

  • @ozepo

The Russkies call their version the "Russo-Finnish Laika". I'm guessing it's purely political. Karelian fanciers insist it's different, but as far as I can see the only difference is that they tend to be black-and-white, whereas Karelians tend to be white-and-black.

  • @pinz2022 It is Russians. Who in turn are 150 different nations and languages coexisting >1000 years, and pretty much any person there is result of cross-marriages of many nationalities. Call it real melting pot. And, there are many, many great dogs coming from this country - Eastern European Shepard, Black Terrier (would recommend it to any responsible and experienced dog-owner any day; people who knew to dogs will not know how to appreciate this great breed), Caucasian Shepard, Alabai, etc

  • akita plus border collie =awesome

  • theres a place up here in the upper peninsula of michigan that breeds them.

  • I was lucky enough to rescue one from abuse in British Columbia and turned out to be the best dog one could ask for. Extremely intelligent, loyal and wonderful with children. Was off leash for ten years due to his excellent behaviour ( not my training) and he will be missed dearly. My KBD's name was Junior. RIP!!!

  • i have this dog to and its great whit kids :D i love my dog and iam from Denmark

  • some one save this dog

  • I love this dog!

  • these dogs sometimes nap you, but they never attack humans. they just play little like wolves.

  • i'm from Finland and i have this dog. And they are exellent family dogs, they could be careful with other children but they are very good with the children that are in the family. Believe me i know:)

  • 301 now lol i just got my dna test results for my own KBD we thought for the longest time that she was a border collie husky mix turns out that she is actually a KBD! we are thinking of registering her but don't know cause she some how got the strong recessive gene for blue eyes and we don't know if we want to breed that into the line.if anyone with a KBD on the Eastern sea board of the US wants to breed i'm putting up a video of her soon so if still intrested after watching contact me please,

  • In Finland, these dogs are considered strictly hunting dogs and you can only see them in the countryside. Only people who go hunting will get a Karelian. Of course to their families Karelians are also pets! it is plain wrong to buy a Karelian bear dog and not train it to work on anything. I sincerely hope that no celebrity buys one or anyone makes a movie of them. KBD should never get popular. Popularity will destroy any breed and it's reputation.

  • Dude what's with all the Static. jeez.

  • @Detomidine That's what happend to the American Pit Bull, so sad.

  • I grew up as an outcast when i was in school, i had rather few friends, but our karelian was named storm and he was first in the house and i came later, he died when i was in 6.grade, he used to when i was little let me ride him around in our home, and he never ever showed any agression against me as an kid, his son king wich i had up to 23 years of age, turned a little hard his last years becouse an kid jumped him, his daughter never ever showed any angry sings, and was put to sleep this summer.

  • @hugoh26

I must say i hardly dont think that a karelian is agressive to kids if there are few or one kid in the home, and that its socialiced good from early age, also that people are responsible and teach their kids to respect the dog and its wishes.

I have seen that the karelian will stand up and leave to be alone when he feels it is to noisy, again respect it.

I now own an german shepard becouse i run a security company and used to be an doghandler in norwegian airforce, i miss my karelian

  • good dog

  • My family used to have a karelian, she was such a friendly dog. :) And I don't remember that she would have been bad with children.

  • Theese are such beatuful dogs. They kinda look my dutch bunny in way, why with the colors and color patterns.

  • Just got my pup. He's so sweet. I can tell that he has determination and will take careful, steady training. Sisu's going to do great in Alaska!

  • @tolynette YOU NAMED HIM SISU! thats awesome i love that name, i plan on naming a future dog that myself

  • my 2 koralians are mthe best the the mom died but son and dad are good the mom was half wolf and the dad is 13 now best dogs ever

  • the finnish version is much better with family's. actully the finnish version is better in all points

  • Based on personal experience with my dear little Tkyvek, I don't believe that ferocity thing for a moment. He'll enthusiastically announce visitors but he won't do anything remotely menacing and it's true their tails are amazingly insensitive.

I believe there are now far more of them in this country than can be counted accurately. I love their coats, dirt just won't stick to them.

  • @pinz2022 i think the 300 count was just counting registered dogs not total. since that is all people seem to care about now adays, whether they are purebreeds or not. and I totaly agree about the coat and ferocity mine who was just proven an actual pure bred KBD had never been viscious and i only HAVE to bathe her once a year but she will actually sit in the tub and whimper when she wants to be washed its really cute.especally since she was afraid of water the first two times i bathed her XDDD

  • Karelian Bear Dogs are good with kids, we have 2 dogs, another one is over 7 years old, and she is being in our family always. Your other dog is 2-3 years old, i'm not sure. She jumps almoust 1,5 meters high jumps without speed. So they have really strong legs. And my dads friends are hunting with these great dogs. They hunt elks, but one guy trains his dogs to hunt bears, and one of the puppies went to canada, and i live in finland :)

  • Fairly accurate but I think they went a bit overboard with the ferocity thing, they can easily be family dogs you just need to socialize them from when they're puppies.

  • @Trimroad ya they are just pups in a bug dogs body all they wana do is have fun play and they are the best hunting dod one of myn saved my dads life

  • Yes, they are great with kids. They roll over right away and take any abuse, including tail pulling, that a kid can dish out...

  • Actually they are great with kids, they'll take any abuse from a toddler. But they are very reserved towards strangers.

  • @baldurus1 myn never shon agresion except twords mounten lions and the acasinal grizly wen they se them tew will keep them away from u even if they die to save u thats what they do they are the most caring and protecful animal out thear

  • it's crazy how they look like border collies. the only 2 big diference, are the tail position, and the way they look so majestic =D

  • @oly355 ya my dog is 75% koralian and 25% wolf hs mom was half wolf
