Our middle class has been dying slowly since the mid 70's. What's happening with outsourcing, death of labor unions, globalization are, unfortunately inevitable. We can get mad, protest, jump up and down... and it's still inevitable. Even the bastions of "People's Revolution" and Communism (not good options anyway) are failed and becoming ultra capitalists like China. What a novel idea: paying cash for big-ticket items! Instead of spending money you do not have, you spend what you can afford (none of this paying for your house for 30 years when you won't even live in the house that long). Credit has gotten way out of hand in North America.

This just tells you that you live in a society where you HAVE to have debt by buying things you can't reasonably afford. Go to smaller countries, you'll see that a family of 5 DOESN"T need a home with 4 bedroom, 3 baths, etc. Our Economy thrives, well more like "thrived" now, on borrowed spendings, or future income spending.
