you are correct that I came very close losing the functions you mentioned. In fact there was some damage to the sacral nerve, but that has healed for the most part. I was extremely fortunate to have a superb rescue and surgical team. I very easily could have been a paraplegic, but with a lot of rehab and determination I am getting back to living an active lifestyle. To be honest, my desire live an active lifestyle is stronger than ever despite the tremendous trauma I incurred from this injury.
From the looks of the films he was pretty close to becoming incontinent, infertile and sexually impotent. Once you lose these functions you think twice about returning to "weekend warrior" status.
