there is going to be another crusades, or else western civilization as we know it will be eradicated. oberman is a dhimmi-wit if he thinks that in spite of their STATED objective of a global caliphate, that it is not their goal. read "mein quranpf". if more had read mein kampf then the nazi regime may not have gotten in power.
Everyone that dont agree with you on this issue are terrorists that plant pimp bombs at Islamic centers. Also, lets tear down all those cheating time travelers who built other religious buildings there. How about also tearing down the other smaller Mosks which where built before 9/11 also then. I dont have any issues with them, but it seems you do...
What I have a issue with is that the current Mosk is going to be seen as a political symbol for extremists all over the world.
I saw this when it was originally on msnbc.com. I got chills that evening. The most important is within the last minute. Please watch this no matter which side your are on, and then just think. We need to put emotions aside and just think. I love this country and I also get chills when I think of our country's origins. Although it wasn't perfect, a constitution was created that was subject to "adding to" as our belief in the constitution progressed.
I don't care what anyone builds there... But this guy is just BAD at being a news anchor. Plus it seems as if these were his own thoughts and opinions rather than reporting the news fair and balanced, and letting us decide.
The reason why people get upset about Islam is because of the backwards way Islamic countries operate. Women in Islamic nations are not considered equal. Men and Women are treated differently when it comes to law enforcement. If a woman is raped she is punished. Every time you turn around Muslims around the world are burning American Flags as Americans die to help feed and free Muslims. Muslims attacked the U.S. On 9-11 and Muslims around the world danced in the streets with glee to the news.

This is happening ALL Across USA. Gullible Hate-filled Paranoid Americans are protesting Mosques EVERYWHERE, and they are burning US Constitution & existing Mosques, burning Quran & terrorizing Muslims who have done nothing wrong. Americans have BECOME NAZIS AGAINST MUSLIMS.This is NOT about Cordova Centre in Manhatten (Which is being built at the location b/c IT IS A MEMORIAL FOR ALL 9/11 VICTIMS). All Mosques (Old & New) are being Attacked by Americans.
God, I f'in hate Keith Olberman. All he does is spin facts to make people who don't agree with him look like racists. Now granted, I haven't been to NY in 2 years, but I'm pretty sure they could find another place for The Mosque" far away from Ground Zero. F*** Keith Olberman and MSNBC( THE LIBERAL VERISON OF FOX NEWS)
@MrJargonScott What is so special about Ground zero? Is it a mecca which only non-Muslims are allowed in its vicinity. The paranoia in America about Muslims is so ridiculous that it borders insanity. It is at the point where the definition of terrorist is being replaced by the word Muslim. I guess Fox news is one of THE biggest brainwashing media on the planet. The very thing you hate about the Nazis is the very thing you are becoming.
@efadaei Yeah because voicing my opinion on a public forum is so nazi like right? You don't feel in anyway that building a Mosque so close to ground zero isn't disrespectful in anyway? Lets say that a Christian or Jewish radicals blew up a Mosque. Now 10 years later, people of the Christian or Jewish faith who had nothing to do with the bombings, wanted to build a Church or Synagogue 3 blocks away. You wouldn't have any problem with that? I find that very hard to believe.
@MrJargonScott I feel that it isn't disrespectful since it is not a terrorist organization and it isn't being built right on Ground Zero. This isn't even a mosque or even shaped like a mosque. It is just a cultural center with 2 floors dedicated to being a prayer center for Muslims. There is nothing insulting about that and those terrorists that attacked the WTC weren't true Muslims, rather crazies who believed they were Muslim.
@efadaei Well unfortunately the radicals who blew up the towers did in the name of Islam and now innocent Muslim Americans have to carry that blame. Do you think it would be appropriate for a Catholic church to be built next to or even in the vicinity of a center for sexually abused children even though the new congregation had nothing to do with the allegations? Nobody isn't saying not to build a site for worship but they have to understand that it will be looked upon as disrespectful to some.
@MrJargonScott Do you think it's appropriate to punish the innocent majority for the crimes of a few?
In WWII the Germans would often slaughter an entire village because of the activities of a few resistance fighters. That was a war crime. It was despicable then, and advocating it now as you are is still despicable.
its two blocks away, it is going to me built on an old site of a burlington coat factory. if they move the site 3 blocks way, people will still be against it.
the only reason people dont want it built is because the people who do want it built share the same religion as terrorists.
i wonder if they also hate the germans, because hitler was evil.
@AceofDiamonds0 It is sad that Muslim Americans share the blame for 9/11, but unfortunately that is how the country functions. Just because some Catholic priests molest kids or the Westboro Baptist Church preach hate, doesn't change the underlying meaning of their faith. This isn't a matter of religious intolerance or prejudice. Its a matter of what's in good taste and unfortunately this isn't.
@AceofDiamonds0 Again, this isn't a matter of religious intolerance. Nobody is rounding Muslim Americans up and putting them through some sort of re-imaging of the Spanish Inquisition, this is a matter of what's in good taste. Nobody's saying they can't try and build a mosque near ground zero. If they want to, more power to them, but just be prepared for some criticism over their actions. When people start threatening them physically, at that time I will agree with you 100 percent about bigotry.
@MrJargonScott And just who is supposed to be the arbiter of this so called "good taste"?
What you are advocating is the limitation of the rights to free speech based on the sensibilities of the listeners. You can't see how that undermines the whole concept?
What a backwards argument. "We're in Iraq to protect Muslims, but we must hate them all if we don't want a gloating mosque built at "Ground Zero".
Leftist logic - what'd expect?
There are things one does not propose because they are insulting. Like say, bulldozing the Peace Park in Hiroshima and erecting a Six Flags - style theme park.
The reason this fails is that it's easy to see Olbermann would support the building of an enormous, monumental mosque directly on "Ground Zero".
If not, the only real issue is: how close is inappropriate? But look how he goes off - he wouldn't be all hot over the issue of how close. He's hot because he thinks it's always good to insult all things American ...at least all things truly American.
@moopism well its time you woke up and smelled the coffeee,i am a realist and not some limp wristed idealist, your ideology cannot confront islam and believe me they will screw up your worldly views the first chance they get
@moopism the first genocide in the 20th century was when 3 million christian greek, assyrian, armenians were killed by the muslim turks, since then there has being a few more genocides and many wholesale massacres, here a few more examples since then, indonesian, bangladeshi, east timor, iraqi kurd, sudan, darfur genocides and many massacres in lebanon,nigeria,beslan,9/11,bali,7/7,madrid,instanbul,mubai,just to name a few, millions of victims thx to al qurans words of hate speech
@DuckingNDiving So what's your point? That because human nature and twentieth century history are full of genocide, we should commit it first before the "rest of them" (whoever that may be), beat us to it.
@moopism have you even read the quran?its surahs tell the muslims to fight and kill all infidels,i never said to kill all muslims, deportation is needed,if this fails then 1 nuke n mecca and then islam will be proving to be a false religion, afterall muslims cannot go on a hajj to a radioactive barren wasteland,so they will turn apostate and rejoin the greater humanity(infidels)
@moopism i already answered that question, but i can assure you that muslims will persecute others when they have the majority, sharia will replace freedoms and democracy, you might look forward to your dhimmi status and bouncing rocks off of mothers heads, but i am willing to fight the inevitable fight that will happen, because liberal idealists have left in the trojan horse of an enemy that has being at war with us since its inception 1400 years ago, allah is no friend of the non-musliim
@moopism france will soon be islamic, watch them when they aim their nukes at Israel, the Uk and the USA,,other european countries are on the brink of collapse thx to socialists like you working hand in hand thinking that the islamification of europe will lead to some kind of utopia, when in fact all muslim countries are full of fear, oppression, repression, lack of human rights, corruption, terrorism, primitive backwardness, terrorism,no free speech or free press, thx a lot for supporting this death cult
@moopism it does not take a genocide to ban a book, ban mosques, banish muslims, the spainish done this when they regained their country back from the invading moors, the reason why they had the inquisition was because many of the muslims refused to become spainish, mass deportation will be necesary someday, dearborn michigan is already persecuting its christian minority
@DuckingNDiving If history has taught us anything it's that the discrimination you advocate ends with horrible acts.
If you choose not to acknowledge that, then you are either very naive or very malicious.
Either way, considering your comments about France and its arsenal, it's obvious that you only hope to gin up fear. I don't really need to hear any more.
@moopism i am educated on islam i have every right to fear,i have researched islam for 5 years, muslims come here not as friends, they come here to take our landds fore their islamic ggod of terrorism,i guess you are too cowardly or ignorant to understand the truth, look at lebanon, that was a christian country 50 years ago, look at it now, listen to the maronites, the egyptian coptics, the south sudanese christians they all send us deep warnings, but fools like you pretend it will never happen
@moopism the protestant/catholic feud and troubles we had is tiny in comparasion to what will happen when the muslims duke it out on their quest to islamify the west, you have being warned
@DuckingNDiving you telling the truth but no one will belive you, this masque is not the sign of peace it is the sign of victory for terorist, Muslim's are here to take over land, sad thing I feel is our politician are sold out to hands full of islamic suprimist. I want to know why state finance the Immam of this controvercial (Wtc) masque to travel to dubai, is dubai going to tell us, how american shoul live ?
@BAPP04 thx for your support, islam is indeed an intolerant religion,i see you are a Buddhist,i know muslims genocided 10 million Buddists along the silk route when they expanded eastward into india, their quran demands it(surah 9.5),the Taliban even blew up the ancient Buddhist shrines in Afghanstan, muslimms do not come as our friends, they come to be our future oppressors, all mosques in the free world need to be demolished and all muslims sent home
@trextoter What a backwards argument. "There are things one does not propose because they are insulting. Like say, bulldozing the Peace Park in Hiroshima and erecting a Six Flags - style theme park."
When the mosque isn't on ground zero, it isn't visible from ground zero, it barely can be called near ground zero in such a packed city.
Rightist logic - what'd you expect?
The only thing not truly american here is people denying other people's right to live their own lives.
So you're saying it's a matter of the "how close?" question then? You people need to make up your mind. There is no law against putting it right across the street. So should they? Please make your position as clear as the disingenuous dingbat has already made his.
First they came for the homosexual pedophiles with degrees from cow colleges...... This is pure propaganda. Queef is attempting to emulate his Nazi hero Goebbels.
Gee Keith, I would like to check out your bank account...You must have been paid a pretty penny for your spin on this situation. I will say this...you are an excellent "spin doctor"....and a major tool....You make me sick....
@sensei1850 What kind of "spin" did he make? Or is his point that these protests are being made almost entirely by xenophobic "White Christian America" fear mongering conservatives beyond your comprehension?
i agree marmalade....look how fox news is manipulating the people into defining the wrong enemy. They seek war with Iran now. The real criminals wear suites and occupy the govt (BOTH parties). We must let them arm the sheeple with hatred and vengence agaisnt a patsy/imagined enemy. i by no means support Keith O, hes part of the machine. Both sides are working the "right" and left" to carefully manuever them back into their pens/cages.
1] Build mosque near WTC site, create media frenzy and cause uproar
2] Force the Americans to forget their custom-made hatred for muslims and remember the constitution
3] The mosque is busted as some huge al-qaeda cell or commits terror acts
4] Gives the American public the "i told you so" attitude and more and more people are for abolishment of this constitution that gives muslims the same rights that they get.
@Maysey1 He is not making sense at all,in fact the opposite of what he says is true,if islam ever took a hold of the USA,then the gays, adulterers, apostates, free thinkers will dissapear as they do in islamofascist countrys, then of course the infidels that are idolators(Hindus/Buddhists) will dissapear(surah 9:5)and are atheists, agnostics will go,finally the people of the book(christians/jews) will start to dissapear(surah 9:29),you cannot tolerate the intolerant,no mosque,no islam=no future wars
@DuckingNDiving I don't view Americans as so weak minded that Islam will "take over". In fact, historically, the opposite has happened- immigrants become Americanized so rapidly that the notion that they could change us is paranoia.
Honestly, you have a shallow and demeaning view of the strength of your own culture.
I see such a collectivist mentality all over this. It's all black and white. The islam in it's entirety is NOT a live and let live religion. There are live and let live muslims and then there are muslims who want to make the whole world islamic. To say that there isn't a real islamic terrorist threat is madness and folly. I don't see any distinction being made here between muslims who want to live and let live and muslims who don't.....(to be cont...)
(cont...) Someone here wrote that women are wolves when given rights (read through comments) and nobody has said anything to dispute that whatsoever which is quite hypocritical. I see comments that are trying to group all Jews and all Christians together as well. No one is saying...some christians, or some women, or some muslims.....without a distinction being made it's saying ALL members of this or that group or gender. ALL WRONG. All racism comes from lumping everyone together like that.
@quietwarvictim Yes, the blind simplicity of forcing the world into an either or viewpoint makes it so they can get through the day without all that hard thinking that makes their heads hurt.
NO KIDDING KEITH!!!!! Guess WHO "came" for them........An ALL powerful FEDERAL Govt!!!! Your quote is reffering to THAT! Youve been Pushing Obamas Admin consolidation of total power, which is an extension of Bush's consolidation of power.....WAKE UP there is NO left or right, they work for the same people. The same people that pull your strings and Hannity (Fox News) strings. Make them believe there is a 2 party system. Your a Fraud just like hannity
@SonsOfLibertyRiders Yes, the WHO that "came" for them was an ALL powerful FEDERAL govt. But what must be understood is that the Nazi party didn't start that way. They originally were a very small party outside the mainstream democratic political system. They were a populist movement with a leader who expressed their outrage at a federal govt that wasn't solving their problems in the way they wanted. This small populist group, through spreading fear and bigotry, became the federal government.
Those Republicans who oppose the "Mosque" near "Ground Zero" are the same ones who, last week, voted against giving the 9/11 first responders free health care.
@jround93 Their priorities lie with their wallets. They have no conscience nor soul. They've made their beds with nationalists, zealots, and fundamentalists and are proud of it. All we can really hope for is that they lose seats in both houses so Obama can tell them to fuck off or learn some damn respect.
hey olbermann ...news alert 3000 killed by muslims extremists at wtc...would we build a church at crusade site where muslims were killed and defeated....more or less would they even think about letting us....you bombastic piece of shit...you are so wrong on this.....
@Deioth hey deioth The point was so weak what truly open mind could find it....the slant is like your tongue.....good luck on getting that convent built at the holocaust site...keep petitioning the pope..newt is all yours man ...i loath the simple bastard
@kavakava77 Again, you've missed the point, and are flipping out at I don't know what and I don't know why. Really, this second comment made no sense.
@Deioth ok deioth you just don't get me man but the simple truth is1.They have the right to build it and they will 2.It will increase muslim hatred around the country simply because they don't get that 70% really hate this idea. I can see it both ways man, and it doesn't bother me one way or the other. Yes i understand xenophobic zealotry and this will drive it to new highs. Muslims will be hated for no reason all around the nation and Keith Olbermann will never feel any of it.
@kavakava77 Then, what are you ripping on Keith for? NO ONE in government is about to do ANYTHING that would obstruct this mosque, and if the protests weren't being done by people who wear their "White Christian America" ideals like clothing then maybe we'd see more, "They should consider moving it" from Obama and other dems. Keith's making the point that this is almost entirely a religious xenophobic protest. Much of that 70% would also be fine with the mosque being built regardless of where.
@Lotusflowerism Ummmm, had you been a viewer of Countdown from the beginning, as I have been, you would know that Keith holds Edward R. Murrow as a personal hero. That is his homage to him.
everyone needs to read the poem the hangman by Maurice Odgen then open their mouths since it is being quoted so often now. Then make up your mind about the merchants of hate that is the Republican party today.
@gwengoad I was referring to those in positions of power in washington, not you as an individual. I'm not an american and from what i see both sides are equally bad.
Wow! This is the first clip of Keith Olbermann that I've favorited. I couldn't have said it better myself. All this opposition is so fucking shallow. People with very small intellects are trying to hijack this 'debate' (if a debate for a Muslim community center were even necessary), but we must NOT let them. This will be a victory for diversity, for pluralism, and most of all, for STRENGTH. If we can't handle a fucking community center near ground zero, what CAN we handle in America??
Why do you hate Capitalism, Private Property, Freedom & Liberty?
Why do you want USA to become a Nazi Christian Theocracy?
How many Muslims are in NYC and USA (11 Million at least). How many Christians are in Saudi Arabia?? Saudi Arabia IS NOT a Democracy & does not have a Constitution stating "Freedom of Religion". Guess what Nazi, ALL MUSLIM DEMOCRACIES like Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia etc HAVE CHURCHES.
USA's World of Hate, Fear, Lies, Paranoia, Racism & Islamophobia..
Government loves how their Wars for Oil/Israel/Empire and Lies are Causing more Hate, Fear, Divisions & more profiting for the Neocons.
As USA dies of Bankruptcy, Economy & Future dies & All resources get scarce and the powers that be want a scapegoat, racism/fear/lies/hate/division is the most time-tested DISTRACTION to the problems..keep the peasants squabbling amongst themselves- while you & your neocon pals loot the joint
Its a Memorial to the Victims of 9/11. Its a Community Centre & Art Gallery & a Tribute to ALL 9/11 Victims (Christians, Muslims, ALL Others), it hopes to Achieve Peace, Understanding & Unity between all people & faiths. Thats why it is being built nearby WTC (3 BLOCKS AWAY), you can't even see it from WTC site, it is being built on Private Property, I have listed all the Donors who have funded this 9/11 Memorial Centre. So, thats why they are opening on the 10th anniversary. Why the Fear/Hate
I JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM: Purchase the building directly opposite the New Mosque, and cover it in a Mosaic of photographs of the faces of the people that died at Ground Zero. All 3,000 could stare directly at the Mosque. And, each day, the truly peaceful and spiritual minded people in that Mosque can pray for the souls of those people murdered on 9/11. Those who pray differently will be known to Allah as liars and deceivers; SWINE ... unworthy and unclean to be Moslem.
@grizzzlyjoe It's a free country. If you want to buy the building and pay for the mosaic, then more power to you. I'd only ask one thing of you. You should include the pictures of all the victims, including the Muslims who died as well. Maybe you could create other mosaics on the other sides of the building. On those mosaics, you could put the pictures of all the innocent people who have died when the US military has invaded various countries.

@MarmaladeINFP I agree 1000%. War is STUPID ... we should line the streets of Major cities with such permanent reminders of the Millions upon Millions of lives, from all nations, snuffed out in their prime of life by the sheer inhumanity we show to our neighbors; we all share one Earth. "Tribal Disputes" evolved into "World-wide conflicts" in a brief 5,000 years. Not one of them benefited Mankind. We were thrown out of Eden, but that didn't mean we couldn't create a new Paradise of the Earth.
@grizzzlyjoe I wouldn't say all religions are necessarily equal, but I feel strongly that Christians have a history (including recent history) as horrendous as that of any other major world religion. It's not that all wars are started by religions, but many of them are. Religion mostly just comes down to a tribal mentality. Patriotism can become like a religion as well. Religious people tend to also be the most patriotic and also often the ones most willing to go to war (or blow themselves up).
@MarmaladeINFP "Religious" patriotism is Nationalism. It's the best word to describe what I can best otherwise term "religious stateism" similar to Soviet Russia during the Cold War. Nationalism is the secular equivalent of fundamentalism, though nationalism can certainly include religious influence as it often does. The religious aspect is merely guised by a veil of conservative, traditionalist patriotism.
@Deioth Most often "religious" patriotism would manifest as nationalism, but not always. These overly zealous patriots often rant about revolution, civil war, toppling the govt, and secession. So, their nationalism is rather confused. Their loyalty is not so much with the nation as a whole but rather with their group which they think should be in power. I think the common denominator is psychological. Bob Altemeyer did insightful research on Right-Wing Authoritarians.
@yourmomdidsayyourean Thanks. Most people don't put much thought or effort into comments... in most places on the internet. I just try to express what I understand and maybe a few people will find it interesting and maybe even respond in kind. I don't generally expect much in the way of discussion while commenting on youtube. It's all good! :)
@MarmaladeINFP That's why what they're showing now isn't nationalism but xenophobic zealotry. The right wing strikes me far more like a group of anarchists right now. They seem convinced that our government is such a major evil and failure that any kind of government is wrong. They're angry at government for trying to do what it's supposed to do and it's insane... and then get pissed when gov doesn't do what it can't because they suddenly want it just then for their own gain.
@Deioth There's a difference b/t liberals and consrvatives. And there's a difference b/t Democrats & Republicans. But there isn't a simple correlation b/t the 2 differences. Republicans are almost entirely conservative & Democrats are an equal mix of liberals & conservatives. Republicans show strong support of the govt when Republicans are in power, but Democrats show strong support no matter who is in power. Democrats supposedly showed as much support for Reagan as they do now for Obama.
@Deioth I'm not a fan of the two party system, but there is a significant difference between the two parties. Democrats seem to have a basic faith in the govt, in the democratic process, and in American culture. Republicans are constantly looking for an enemy and constantly warning about the doom of America. While Republicans fear-monger and wave their flags, Democrats give inspiring speeches about why America is great and why we should work together rather than be split by fear.
@Deioth Our present Democratic party part may not have much to offer in the way of real solutions, but at least they don't hypocritically campaign on the government being the problem. If a politician says govt is the problem, why should people vote for him to help create a better govt? How is it patriotic to say the govt is the problem? And how has such rhetoric ever made the world a better place? Republicans look for enemies everywhere including in the govt when a Democrat is president.

There it is, them's the Facts Jack...while the politicians pay off their Hedge Fund and Corporate Backer and turn you into Tax slaves, their Hoop-law and Press Cronies stir the pot with radical racial miss-information to keep the magic act center stage. Were going to pull out of Afghanistan some day...Why are we delaying the departure?
Latest Headline, "Reid against plan to build mosque near ground zero (AP)" !
This reminds me of why I watch Keith Olbermann. He presents a very insightful perspective. He doesn't just preach. He actually has a grasp of how history applies to the present. You either believe in constitutional rights, in civil rights, in human rights or you don't. There are no two ways about it. Supposed 'constitutionalists' who argue against the the building of this Muslim cultural center are the worst kind of frauds. Such people are more dangerous than foreign terrorists.

@MarmaladeINFP I think it boils down to the difference between what one CAN do "legally" versus what good neighbors would do for, or to, their neighbor. Let me put it like this: If you and you neighbor own a piece of land that shares a border ... and YOUR family graveyard is on one side (near that common border). How would you feel if they erected a Statue, that YOU found offensive for whatever reason, the shadow of which, falls across the graves of your parents and children???
@grizzzlyjoe People shouldn't do many things. The US govt shouldn't have invaded Iraq because the president falsely justified a connection to 9/11, shouldn't have illegally and immorally tortured people and passed the unconstitutional Patriot Act, shouldn't have put Japanese in camps during WWII. Christian fundies shouldn't go to Africa and politicize anti-gay sentiments that led to laws of incarceration or even capital punishment for gays. Rightwing pundits shouldn't use bigotry to fearmonger.
Projecting fear and hatred onto Muslims isn't very neighborly. Muslims also died in 9/11. The neighborly attitude would be to treat Muslims as equal Americans and not as second class citizens. The Islamic cultural center is blocks away from the 9/11 site and not even within visual range of the 9/11 site. Bigots are bigots. If we give into bigots once, they'll take it as a victory and they'll push their bigotry further until none of us have any rights left.

@MarmaladeINFP Wars result from the foolish failure to be a "GOOD NEIGHBOR" ... no more, no less. Einstein once commented, "Wisdom is NOT in knowing what you CAN do, it's in knowing what should NEVER be done."
@grizzzlyjoe I agree with that sentiment. The problem is Christian fundamentalists have always been some of the biggest supporters of US military atrocities around the world. The evangelicals would love to see the whole middle east explode into warfare because it would mean the Second Coming of Christ. They long for Apocalypse. Remember, many neocons like Bush are born again Christians. They see these as holy wars. But we shouldn't blame all Christians or all Muslims for what a few have done.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MarmaladeINFP No we should blame all. When you view human history, considering the Billions of people that have come and gone, and who are presently here, you can probably write down a list of less than 1,000 names that truly affected the outcome of Ancient History up to today's Modern world. And it's still going on. 99.9% of Human beings are descent, kind, considerate and just plain nice people. One on one, and face to face. It's that 0.1% that screws it up for the rest of us.
@grizzzlyjoe I'm not one who blames all. I try to be specific in my judgments. I'm not a Christian, but I was raised a Christian. Generally speaking, I have nothing against any religion as long as they don't hurt others & don't spread hate & bigotry. The Christianity I grew up in was the complete opposite of fundamentalist. The kinds of religious people I respect are those who stand up to the injustice of wars and injustice in general. Religious people like MLK & Ghandi have done great things.
@grizzzlyjoe The organization behind Park51 has been there for 30 years. And Park51 does N.O.T! share a property line with the WTC complex. There's almost a half a mile between the two. And they are building this facility for the use of ALL New Yorkers. ONLY 2 FLOORS, at most, will be for Muslim prayer exclusively. Out of 14. And a 14 story building does NOT cast a shadow that crosses fully a much larger structure, of with there will be MANY between it and the WTC site.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MarmaladeINFP ... if I'm Christian, and you're Jewish, and the Statue was of "Christ on the Cross", and that shadow laid across your MURDERED Child's grave (killed by a devote Christian) ... would you speak out??? It's my property, it's my Right to worship as I please, and it represents my Faith. But we BOTH know that the Statue could go ANYWHERE else. How would you feel about your NEIGHBOR. Sure they have the right to build the Mosque ... but it's UN-neighborly.... just sayin' 8^)
@grizzzlyjoe If either of us was of any religion and both of our children died together, then we shouldn't act righteous toward each other and imply the religion of the other is to be blamed for what foreign terrorists did. If we are both Americans, neither of us should treat the other like a second class citizen. Bigotry is UN-neighborly... just sayin' 8^)

Sorry Keith, you're wrong on this one. Most of the 3,000 people that died there were "pulverized" and "incinerated" with no way of separating their dust from the ground. Ground Zero is a Cemetery, a Graveyard. NO REBUILDING THERE SHOULD TAKE PLACE AT ALL. The whole Mosque idea two blocks away is just bothering people whose family and friends are BURIED there. Why hurt the living any further that must continue living on with the pain? Wait a generation before doing this to these people.
@halcyon0830 FACT. Type in "8 year old brides". Pedophilia, sadly, is a horrible thing, rampant in EVERY culture. BUT IN MOST CULTURES, YOU CAN'T MARRY AN 8 YEAR OLD!!! Everbody who reads this, look up "8 year old brides", or 8 YEAR OLD DIVORCE. Sorry bro, but ONLY Muslims are allowed to do this.
Priests are allowed to do this. Incest is in the Bible. Etc. What you mean is that this is common in the major religions, because that was acceptable at the time. Way back then it was an honor if a prestigious man married your daughter, and it meant that she would be taken care of. Etc.
@Starry2000 Sorry to burst your bubble, but CATHOLICS ARE NOT REAL CHRISTIANS!!! Incest IS in the Bible(Lot), but it wasn't right. Sorry to call out your last point, "Way back then".... but bro, 8 year old marriages still continue!! As a Devoted Follower of Islam, do you think this is okay? I support your subversion of women. They are wolves when given rights! Can you at least agree with that?? I actually support the Mosque. I just don't want to have to deal with some jerk off bombing it.
Actually, when you Google "8 year old brides" and include the double-quotes, you only get 29 webpages none of which look reliable. If it were a real phenomenon you would think there would be many more than 29.
The all-knowing Google seems to suggest that child marriage (child to child or adult to child) occurs among Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus and other religions in countries all around the world. As we know, even in the United States children under age 16 are permitted to get married, a law that should probably be changed!
The United Nations is working to popularize the idea that marriage is a woman's rights and child's rights issue and marriage should be delayed until age 18.
I agree. It yields a more balanced, more accurate picture.
What I'm trying to say to kdavidmcd is that Christians, Jews, Muslims, and atheists do all kinds of terrible things. We shouldn't oppress or exile -any- group for the actions of it's members.
If some serial killer turns out to be a doctor, I'm going to stop getting annual physicals. That would be pure superstition if I did.
Agreed, but in fareness, it ought to be pointed out that the Qur'an condones Child Marriages, and the Hadith Literature gives us an explicit example (Mahomet). Whether or not this influences the phenomenon of Child Marriage in Dar al-Eslam is debatable, however.
@halcyon0830 The sacred grounds of many countries have had mosques planted on top of their sacred areas, this happened to the great churches and temples in Spain,Constantinople,Jerusalem, the USA has only one sacred place and that is Ground Zero, why do the muslims want to built an enertainment and mosque even near there?i hope all muslims get deported soon, they are not here as our friends(surah 5:51)
there is going to be another crusades, or else western civilization as we know it will be eradicated. oberman is a dhimmi-wit if he thinks that in spite of their STATED objective of a global caliphate, that it is not their goal. read "mein quranpf". if more had read mein kampf then the nazi regime may not have gotten in power.

We need to put emotions aside and just think. I love this country and I also get chills when I think of our country's origins. Although it wasn't perfect, a constitution was created that was subject to "adding to" as our belief in the constitution progressed.

MrJargonScott 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott What is so special about Ground zero? Is it a mecca which only non-Muslims are allowed in its vicinity. The paranoia in America about Muslims is so ridiculous that it borders insanity. It is at the point where the definition of terrorist is being replaced by the word Muslim. I guess Fox news is one of THE biggest brainwashing media on the planet. The very thing you hate about the Nazis is the very thing you are becoming.
efadaei 1 year ago
@efadaei Yeah because voicing my opinion on a public forum is so nazi like right? You don't feel in anyway that building a Mosque so close to ground zero isn't disrespectful in anyway? Lets say that a Christian or Jewish radicals blew up a Mosque. Now 10 years later, people of the Christian or Jewish faith who had nothing to do with the bombings, wanted to build a Church or Synagogue 3 blocks away. You wouldn't have any problem with that? I find that very hard to believe.
MrJargonScott 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott I feel that it isn't disrespectful since it is not a terrorist organization and it isn't being built right on Ground Zero. This isn't even a mosque or even shaped like a mosque. It is just a cultural center with 2 floors dedicated to being a prayer center for Muslims. There is nothing insulting about that and those terrorists that attacked the WTC weren't true Muslims, rather crazies who believed they were Muslim.
efadaei 1 year ago
@efadaei Well unfortunately the radicals who blew up the towers did in the name of Islam and now innocent Muslim Americans have to carry that blame. Do you think it would be appropriate for a Catholic church to be built next to or even in the vicinity of a center for sexually abused children even though the new congregation had nothing to do with the allegations? Nobody isn't saying not to build a site for worship but they have to understand that it will be looked upon as disrespectful to some.
MrJargonScott 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott Do you think it's appropriate to punish the innocent majority for the crimes of a few?
In WWII the Germans would often slaughter an entire village because of the activities of a few resistance fighters. That was a war crime. It was despicable then, and advocating it now as you are is still despicable.
moopism 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott
its two blocks away, it is going to me built on an old site of a burlington coat factory. if they move the site 3 blocks way, people will still be against it.
the only reason people dont want it built is because the people who do want it built share the same religion as terrorists.
i wonder if they also hate the germans, because hitler was evil.
AceofDiamonds0 1 year ago
@AceofDiamonds0 It is sad that Muslim Americans share the blame for 9/11, but unfortunately that is how the country functions. Just because some Catholic priests molest kids or the Westboro Baptist Church preach hate, doesn't change the underlying meaning of their faith. This isn't a matter of religious intolerance or prejudice. Its a matter of what's in good taste and unfortunately this isn't.
MrJargonScott 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott but is that what america is all about? freedom of religion but only when its in style?
AceofDiamonds0 1 year ago
@AceofDiamonds0 Again, this isn't a matter of religious intolerance. Nobody is rounding Muslim Americans up and putting them through some sort of re-imaging of the Spanish Inquisition, this is a matter of what's in good taste. Nobody's saying they can't try and build a mosque near ground zero. If they want to, more power to them, but just be prepared for some criticism over their actions. When people start threatening them physically, at that time I will agree with you 100 percent about bigotry.
MrJargonScott 1 year ago
@MrJargonScott And just who is supposed to be the arbiter of this so called "good taste"?
What you are advocating is the limitation of the rights to free speech based on the sensibilities of the listeners. You can't see how that undermines the whole concept?
moopism 1 year ago
What a backwards argument. "We're in Iraq to protect Muslims, but we must hate them all if we don't want a gloating mosque built at "Ground Zero".
Leftist logic - what'd expect?
There are things one does not propose because they are insulting. Like say, bulldozing the Peace Park in Hiroshima and erecting a Six Flags - style theme park.
trextoter 1 year ago
The reason this fails is that it's easy to see Olbermann would support the building of an enormous, monumental mosque directly on "Ground Zero".

How many Muslims are in NYC and USA (11 Million at least). How many Christians are in Saudi Arabia?? Saudi Arabia IS NOT a Democracy & does not have a Constitution stating "Freedom of Religion". Guess what Nazi, ALL MUSLIM DEMOCRACIES like Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia etc HAVE CHURCHES.

We were thrown out of Eden, but that didn't mean we couldn't create a new Paradise of the Earth.
grizzzlyjoe 1 year ago
@grizzzlyjoe I wouldn't say all religions are necessarily equal, but I feel strongly that Christians have a history (including recent history) as horrendous as that of any other major world religion. It's not that all wars are started by religions, but many of them are. Religion mostly just comes down to a tribal mentality. Patriotism can become like a religion as well. Religious people tend to also be the most patriotic and also often the ones most willing to go to war (or blow themselves up).
MarmaladeINFP 1 year ago
@MarmaladeINFP "Religious" patriotism is Nationalism. It's the best word to describe what I can best otherwise term "religious stateism" similar to Soviet Russia during the Cold War. Nationalism is the secular equivalent of fundamentalism, though nationalism can certainly include religious influence as it often does. The religious aspect is merely guised by a veil of conservative, traditionalist patriotism.
Deioth 1 year ago
@Deioth Most often "religious" patriotism would manifest as nationalism, but not always. These overly zealous patriots often rant about revolution, civil war, toppling the govt, and secession. So, their nationalism is rather confused. Their loyalty is not so much with the nation as a whole but rather with their group which they think should be in power. I think the common denominator is psychological. Bob Altemeyer did insightful research on Right-Wing Authoritarians.

Deioth 1 year ago
@Deioth There's a difference b/t liberals and consrvatives. And there's a difference b/t Democrats & Republicans. But there isn't a simple correlation b/t the 2 differences. Republicans are almost entirely conservative & Democrats are an equal mix of liberals & conservatives. Republicans show strong support of the govt when Republicans are in power, but Democrats show strong support no matter who is in power. Democrats supposedly showed as much support for Reagan as they do now for Obama.
MarmaladeINFP 1 year ago
@Deioth I'm not a fan of the two party system, but there is a significant difference between the two parties. Democrats seem to have a basic faith in the govt, in the democratic process, and in American culture. Republicans are constantly looking for an enemy and constantly warning about the doom of America. While Republicans fear-monger and wave their flags, Democrats give inspiring speeches about why America is great and why we should work together rather than be split by fear.
MarmaladeINFP 1 year ago
@Deioth Our present Democratic party part may not have much to offer in the way of real solutions, but at least they don't hypocritically campaign on the government being the problem. If a politician says govt is the problem, why should people vote for him to help create a better govt? How is it patriotic to say the govt is the problem? And how has such rhetoric ever made the world a better place? Republicans look for enemies everywhere including in the govt when a Democrat is president.

How would you feel if they erected a Statue, that YOU found offensive for whatever reason, the shadow of which, falls across the graves of your parents and children???
grizzzlyjoe 1 year ago
@grizzzlyjoe People shouldn't do many things. The US govt shouldn't have invaded Iraq because the president falsely justified a connection to 9/11, shouldn't have illegally and immorally tortured people and passed the unconstitutional Patriot Act, shouldn't have put Japanese in camps during WWII. Christian fundies shouldn't go to Africa and politicize anti-gay sentiments that led to laws of incarceration or even capital punishment for gays. Rightwing pundits shouldn't use bigotry to fearmonger.
MarmaladeINFP 1 year ago 5

Einstein once commented, "Wisdom is NOT in knowing what you CAN do, it's in knowing what should NEVER be done."
grizzzlyjoe 1 year ago
@grizzzlyjoe I agree with that sentiment. The problem is Christian fundamentalists have always been some of the biggest supporters of US military atrocities around the world. The evangelicals would love to see the whole middle east explode into warfare because it would mean the Second Coming of Christ. They long for Apocalypse. Remember, many neocons like Bush are born again Christians. They see these as holy wars. But we shouldn't blame all Christians or all Muslims for what a few have done.

It's that 0.1% that screws it up for the rest of us.
grizzzlyjoe 1 year ago
@MarmaladeINFP That should have said "SHOULDN'T BLAME ALL" sorry
grizzzlyjoe 1 year ago

@kdavidmcd "Muslims are allowed to do this"
Priests are allowed to do this. Incest is in the Bible. Etc. What you mean is that this is common in the major religions, because that was acceptable at the time. Way back then it was an honor if a prestigious man married your daughter, and it meant that she would be taken care of. Etc.
Different times.

Klingschor 1 year ago
@Klingschor
