Jerry Garcia's greatest gift was his ability to connect the listener with the song in such a way that you feel that the song is PART of you, an emotional directness. That is a rare trait in a musician. Plus, he could play that guitar, and write songs that will endure and be reinterpreted forever. He is Unique.
I was at this show. It was one of the first real dates I went on with my wife. Cool Providence scene, no one cared. I remember enjoying the music so much. My brother and his friends were sleeping in the row behind us. RIP Jer
The last time I saw Jerry alive was in Dec 1990, in Denver. Two years later (in this video) he looks 10 years older. The spark is still there, in this show, but it hurts to watch the video.
This has always been on of my favorite songs. Thanks everyone.
when i listen to this song i like to pretend that he is talking about the mission in san diego because i can see it from my window and its not all that different even though i know Robert wrote, and Jerry is singing about the mission in SF. I think JJG and RH would be cool with it
i miss going home imiss all thebrothers&sisters @ the shows thanks capt trips for all the fun times remeber just be kind too one onther thats all he aks of us peace& love
smoking a bowl in the mission in the rain. hey jerr can we just ride in your beamer and chief? its a hard rain gonna fall so lets ride out bfore mickeys dad tries to take our herbs.cant wait to see u in feb mickey u know we all love u and your jerry hand tat
@stolenface78 Hey... Sorry but...!!!!Fuck You! !!!! That costume M3 was made for a soul you will never comprehend! I'm sorry but smoking a bowl in the mission is like shitting in a bowl in Kabul! Stay away from my family, and my people...
Classic - beautiful Garcia - so many memories---Thank You Jerry!! - wherever you are - know that you are loved and missed...thank you for everything...sigh...
Playing his Cripe guitar " Bolt " with The Garcia band. working out his tone. This new guitar had such a nice touch for him and was lighter for him to hold. His hands were getting numb, but he didn't want anyone to know. There was a lot of hope at this time. look at his frame; D. Koons Garcia had him on the treadmill and eating well, but there was too much pressure from the inside
He really wanted to take a break, if GDP had allowed it, it all may have been different. Hard to tell. Well, thank you Steve for the guitars, and may you also rest in peace. There is a good article in this months Vintage Guitar magazine about them. Peace for the holidays, Alikat
I lived in denver where I fought depression and the law, wasted on drugs, drinking ever day, then thrown in jail, and lost my job. When I got out I was easily at the lowest point I ever was. I couldn't even think how I was going to pay my rent check for the small dumpy studio that I rented in the ghetto neighborhood I lived in. When I was bailed out, I went to the bar I always drank at and threw this on the jutebox. It still sends chills down my spine.
Love the energy swell from the crowd during those licks from 6:52 to 7:00. I got that rush like I used to get when seeing him in person. Thanks again - there is magic in this clip.
