It's not fake and it works, if you give it several tries... Just make sure the shape is well balanced and the sphere in the middle is lightly lower than the others. You can't see it, but you'll feel if it's right, when you try to rotate the shape.

It's not fake. Trust me. I haven't done it quite to this extent but it is very possible. Sometimes you have to us different magnets out of the same set. Some of them aren't the exact same size [micrometers difference] and make the hexagon not completely flat so it can pivot in the middle.

A very flat, hard, level surface is definitely crucial.

when he halts the first spin (the one people think proves it fake) the chain of magnets moves towards the hexagon.

@GeoSlash99 Well that hexagonal shape I made has one ball in the centre, so when I put it on my flat desk that was the only thing touching, so it could spin quite easily. Then when I moved the balls above the hexagon they were attracted and spun the balls they followed my movement.

You can get one of these going a lot faster with straws & blowing air at it (one straw for holding the center sphere, second to blow).

Be careful though, I just had one spinning so fast that the magnets lost cohesion and exploded all over the place.

@riotpoliec I just made the shape you see here. Try pushing the center ball out a little bit. I also found that sometimes it worked well and sometimes it didn't. If it doesn't seem to be working try it with different balls. Also it's important to have a flat, hard surface.
