i dont like japanese cars but my dad would leave the gas in the ol '96 for whole winter till next winter when it was time to snowplow cranks it first try it starts -350000 kilometers on it. and it would just crawl out of the ditches in 2 foot snow.
Yesterday I saw one of these crash with a Chevy Silverado. Man, the Chevy broke its whole bumper and doors. The 4runner, just a little damage to the doors. This shows how Safe these cars are. I love these old 4runners.
I have a 97' Limited... 131K Miles. It's still a baby. The body and frame were undercoated so well by Toyota, there's not ONE spot of rust on it. With the independent suspension, it drives like a Camery. Even for the small horse power that this engine puts out... It still has some balls. Pass cars with EASE... And when you want to have some fun or get stuck. That thing's got some TORQUE in 4x4. Gotta love em!
I own two of these 4runners (years 96 Limited and 99 SR5 4wd) and they are sooooo fuckin RELIABLE. Like all cars, proper maintenance (interior and exterior) will make any car, Jap or not, last. My friends, anything less than that is pure neglect.

These things are HORRIBLE. We have a '98 in our family and that thing has rust everywhere and the leather is worn out. Must be that asian quality. The only thing that works perfectly is the CHECK ENGINE light. Never buying asian again
lo fender. I got a 98 and I never thought I'd care about a car or better yet a suv like i do my 4runner. Waxed with the chrome buffed out it look's better than the newer car's & suv's. I'ts truly a looker and with the 3.4 24v run's like like nothing out there for a suv.
i like ford explorers...but 4runners are better...thats y i had one 2. did u notice that nobody was driving that truck, and yet it was still driving around?
@Buhundred my buddies 96 Exploder has a massive oil leak amongst other problems at 182000km, im driving circles around him in my 99 4Runner at 262000km!
Owner of a '90 model. 222000 miles.
