  • Dont you lose Dynamic range when you change it to TIFF? Also, I may have gotten a bit confused here but this isn't true HDR is it? As in you're not combining multiple exposures?

  • @Siwep No, it's not true HDR - it's a pseudoHDR. I usually steer clear of pHDRs but with this particular series of shots I thought "what the hell, let's give it a try".

I suspect you do lose dynamic range with TIFF files, but bear in mind that when you save an HDR as TIFF you're starting with a much larger range than any of the original source files. So even though you lose range saving you gain overall. Photomatix can save to .HDR, but those files aren't widely supported. Hence I use TIFF here.

  • i think your cool/interesting so im going to watch this whole series :)

  • I'm new to HDR imaging and this is very informative! Thanks so much!

  • I use GIMP sometimes but I have a valid CS3 Ext. license so mostly I just use Photoshop/Bridge for images.

I will give Audacity a whirl.

  • Try Vegas Movie Studio

  • Nice, thanks for this, very handy.

  • wow, this is fantastic! going to try this!

  • Looks like a volcano crater! Very lovely.

  • That is not a bad idea. Any recommendations?

  • Did you use a tripod or freehand those shots?

  • Tripod... just about got away without having a panoramic head!

  • Well done.
