I was 8 years old when this song came out. I remember riding in my Dad's huge '69 Ford Galaxy...this song playing..and him tapping the tune out on my knee. He'd always sneak and squeeze my knee hard and make a loud roar when I was least expecting it....and he'd always be chewing Juicy Fruit...to this day..the smell of that gum reminds me of my Dad.

I was born not too long after this came out so I never knew of it until I found his album in the mid 90s - one of the worst album covers I've ever seen: Billy standing behind a bath tub with a swan in it. I didn't listen to the album for about 5 years after I bought it. Honestly, this is the only half decent song on it.

I didn't mean when the song was first released. I still hear the song played to this day, and it was certainly well-known during Carter's term. They sound a little similar, that's all. I didn't mean to insinuate that anyone might get the two confused.

Within a year, Carter was a presidential candidate and certainly well known by the general public, therefore fair game for the folks on the first season of Saturday Night Live (which was actually called NBC's Saturday Night when it first aired in October of 1975.
