  • I got here from thor.....

  • I was 8 years old when this song came out. I remember riding in my Dad's huge '69 Ford Galaxy...this song playing..and him tapping the tune out on my knee. He'd always sneak and squeeze my knee hard and make a loud roar when I was least expecting it....and he'd always be chewing Juicy Fruit...to this day..the smell of that gum reminds me of my Dad.

  • If you got a vagina. I could help. I just wanted to say Vagina twice.+

  • When I hear this tune, I sometimes think Ringo Starr is singing this tune. I think that when I hear it on the radio. Nice tune, by the way.

  • Hey it's the guy from Home Improvement!

    still an awesome song

  • Magnificent message, I can help to make a better world, to encourage people to show love, compassion, understanding and tolerance for each other. What a beautiful song undoubtedly. Peace and love be unto you all.

  • I love the drummer in this. He's havin' such a great time.

  • great roller skating song

  • One of my favorites. What woman wouldn't love? :-)

  • I wish our times could go back to these times.

  • this song in the 70's was before disco, following hits like third rate romance, jackie blue, billy swann is a friend of kris krisoffterson . it was rock country. it played on rock stations z-93 in atlanta. elvis had a cover of this also. this great music was in a decade of great times.

  • A classic I will never forget!

  • Disco? I would have said this was more country/western!

  • This song was used in a small scene in Thor where a few guys try to pick Thors hammer up but fail.

  • Love it!

  • Great song by Billy... Thanks for posting!

  • Why does the instrumental interlude in the middle of the song sound like a rolling skating rink? Everybody skate!

  • They have also taken away many once in a lifetime performances.

  • I remember I first heard this song in a Wal-Mart ad. Where has the time gone?

  • Great song of course by him. But Elvis, a few months later, did it better. As usual Elvis did...

  • @screcca1976 lol...Elvis liked Billy's version & Billy liked Elvis's version, but in reality, Billys blows Elvis away on this one

  • This song is awesome, it brings back childhood memories from when I was a little kid living on Cape Cod where I'm originally from.

  • I was born not too long after this came out so I never knew of it until I found his album in the mid 90s - one of the worst album covers I've ever seen: Billy standing behind a bath tub with a swan in it. I didn't listen to the album for about 5 years after I bought it. Honestly, this is the only half decent song on it.

Nice to see the clip though.

  • i love this song

  • Sounds like an updated Whole Lot Of Shakin' Going On.

  • you tube has enabled so many of us to see so many performances by so many artists that we would never have seen in a lifetime

  • @stucker08 Well said. I agree completely.

  • hi citizenkong

i have to agree. ringo chould have song this song as well. it has got his style and tempo

  • A friend of mine bought the Ringo Starr album at that time, thinking it was Ringo that sang I Can help. True Story!

  • Maybe your friend mistook this song for You're Sixteen which Ringo Starr DID sing. As for the song itself the original version has about 2 or 3 false endings to it. You keep thinking its finished but they all start back up again.

  • No, as I explained, he thought this voice was Ringo's. Everyone knows Ringo did the You're 16 re-make.

  • stupid copywright shit ,one with the clips better

  • magical

  • Énorme ...

  • Billy Swan. The Top Man. 70's magic.

  • Sounds like Pres. Jimmy Carter

  • This amazing song get me in to a good mood, and good memories.5****

  • All this time i thought it was Ringo Starr!!!

  • i rememeber thi s song i had forgotten about it another oldie but goodie from the 70s

  • the only thing it is missing is some good harmonies

  • roller skating music.

  • still got the old record in vinyl

  • Love this song even now, all these years later. What did we do before wonderful YouTube??? Older, sadder and much wiser....

  • Such a great popsong!

  • There's a lovely sound on the single. I keep it safe.

  • They're done raising your kids and then, now You're Free!(When it's always a great sense of PROMISE!)No She Can't Live Here!

  • this song was in Paranoid Park, it worked so well with the visuals in that movie

    full movie on my account

  • Greetings from Spain and thank you so much Ans1091 for sharing this little jewel that took me back to the days when we all were so young and idealistics.

  • i've got a version of Ringo Starr doing this.

  • nº1 in usa, in youtube.....la honorable sociedad

  • de esta hago un remake

  • When this song came out, I thought this sounded EXACTLY like Prez. Jimmy Carter would sound if he was a country singer! I always hoped Saturday Night Live would do a skit with Jimmy Carter singing this, but it never happend.

I wonder if him a Billy Swan was from the same area-anybody know?

Close your eyes and imagine Jimmy Carter up at the podium singing this!

  • Alright, I gotta ask, since I saw you posted this comment in a few places: this song hit #1 in the US in late October 1974. Unless you lived in Georgia, would anyone have even HEARD of Jimmy Carter that early, let alone known his distinctive, malaise-inducing drawl well enough to imagine him singing this? :)

  • I didn't mean when the song was first released. I still hear the song played to this day, and it was certainly well-known during Carter's term. They sound a little similar, that's all. I didn't mean to insinuate that anyone might get the two confused.

Whether someone was familiar with this tune or not, it might have been funny to see Jimmy Carter behind the podium singing to the American public "I Can Help".

  • Not that it matters, but this song was number one on the pop charts in Nov. of '74 and the country charts in Dec. of '74. Within a year, Carter was a presidential candidate and certainly well known by the general public, therefore fair game for the folks on the first season of Saturday Night Live (which was actually called NBC's Saturday Night when it first aired in October of 1975.

  • Yeah! Now that you mention it,he sure does

sound like good ol' Jimmy Carter! Love 'em both, good ol' boys.

  • I had Billy dedicate this song to my girl in Arkansas and the rest is .......history. Oh, baaaaaaaaaaaaby! ;)

  • To lorrain alberta... our song mom. I love you. Jimmy

  • "If the child needs a dad...I can help." Such a strong message, esp. after Roe Vs. Wade passed...

  • Nice, fantastic--brings back wonderful memories. I did not know Elvis Presley sang it too. I love Elvis music, no doubt about it. Nonetheless, this guy Billy Sawn has a magical touch--awesome.

  • I remember that song from 1974. Great for roller skating, ha-ha! Some of my friends thought it was Ringo Starr singing this. It certainly sounds like a song he'd do! In fact Ringo did do a version in '87 that remains unreleased.

  • I'm surprised The Bill Engvall Show doesn't use this song as a theme song since he's a psychologist in that show.

  • I had the biggest crush on Billy. I love the song and no one can do it like he could!

  • Great song if you're feeling blue. By the way...the song goes on and on for another 3 minutes, but...I guess you get the hang of it after the first 2 minutes or so :)

  • Awesome song, Love it!

Billy Swan have a unique, great voice.

  • i have danced 1000000000000000000 miles to this love it. chuck in texas

  • WOW!!What a Great song!!!love it:)thank you.

  • Billy Swan achieved some kind of a World Record being possibly the only No.1 artist to enter the One Hit Wonder Club/

In 1962 he cut the original version of Lover please-as Dennis Turner

  • AWESOME

  • Outstanding singer

  • I love that song!!!!!
