Well... such Masterpieces shouldn't be "spoiled" by futile attempts. None could ever replicate those, why bother try. Those who do only "diminish" themselves when in fact they are great singers.

Each singer has his/her very own "niche" in the vocal portrait. When professional, their songs are made especially for them according with their voice, tone, and range.

Ann Wilson was a hell of a singer! Nothing comparable with Celine.

I hope Celine will never attempt to sing "The great gig in the sky".

Celine is in an entirely different league than Ann Wilson. Heart was great, but Ann's voice is big, full, and powerful. Celine's voice can thunder with power easily matching Ann's, but can also be soft and delicate, sharp and high, with perfect pitch, tone, and clarity no matter where in her range she is. Celine's a masterclass vocalist. Ann is a rock star.

It would've allowed her to express the entire quality her voice has. These "all-over-the-place-ballads" she has been isolating herself into don't really give credit to her outstanding voice and ability to sing.

@JNK173 A song is not like a car just about anyone can sit in and go drive around. A song is like a moulded seat; especially shaped for one and only singer (voice, tone, range). If someone else tries sitting in it, it will never fit right, something will always sound "unfitting", or "inapropriate", uncomfortable in some ways...

I think singers ought to respect that.

@jnyveslbl I don't buy that argument. Some of the most popular pop/rock songs that exist were recorded by different singers than the original. I think there can be certain singers who are less appropriate to cover certain songs, but to say that every song belongs to only one singer...no.

@wickedphant0m If you search trying to find a song that interpretation by a "third-party" (a different singer than who the song was designed for) is better than the version performed by the signer it was writen for, you will have a hard time finding one. In fact, exceptions to that confirms the "rule": the song "Don't Be Cruel", performed by Cheap Trix. However, that version is no match with Elvis's singing!

@jnyveslbl I said popular, because that's more objective than "better". If you go by chart positions and album sales, you can find many versions that were at least as popular as the first. Funny you should mention Elvis though: two of his most iconic songs, "Blue Suede Shoes", and "Hound Dog" are both covers. Also, broadway musicals were responsible for a lot of popular music from the 40s - 60s, often being covered by different singers than the broadway cast and being number 1 hits.

Celine doesn't "own" Heart, as you put it. She does her own interpretation of this ONE song and it's magnificent, but it is NOT Ann Wilson in her prime. I think she did an amazing job, but for me (and like you, I'm entitled to an opinion) no one will ever sing this song with as much heart (no pun intended) as Ann Wilson.

Singing opera and being able to sing opera are two very different things. I admire Dion's talent tremendously but she cannot sing opera at all. Listen to a real opera singer for a comparison. Dion's sound is all strangled in her throat. There wasn't one note of any quality at all. Again, this is not to say she's not talented in her own genre.
