I wanted 12W7s cuz my bro has 2 of em on two JL1000/1s, but after hearing this sub in my uncle's car, I'm went with the Q instead. Not only cuz it was cheaper, but cuz the 12W7 has that funny 3ohm impedance that kind of forces you to buy the 1000/1 for it and I wanted to use Rockford amps(im an RF man). I gotta say, my bro's setup is nice, but these things put my brother's gear to shame. I'm running T1000-1bds on each and it sounds tighter and hits harder and deeper than my brothers stuff.
@iloveaxxo i meant 4 fi Qs and because there in a trunk honda accord so fittin 2 18 in is out. 4 12s will beat 3 15. i'm getting 700 off my btl so just need 300 more and i got them
@ExpertOfSound then why do i still the rest of of the song OVER the bass? i think i think something is funky. i have had well over 7 complete systems.
@CoupeDeville23 cone noise? lol!! what do you think your supposed to hear, the cone is supposed to make noise. thats how speakers reproduce sound. another fag that knows nothing about audio
@blazinloud the cone moves air to create 'noise' but a good sub produces smooth notes without reminding you that theres a moving cone (just like any loudspeaker)... listen to a JL sub and all you hear is the notes as they were intended.... you don't hear the sound of a cheap cone every time it moves...
And it can also depend on your box material, port size, and the cone movement linearity and stiffness. When a cone moves, it will almost always wobble a little bit (almost invisible to your eyes, even in slow motion) because air will never be 100% "flat" against the whole surface of the cone... the LMS ultra 18 has a cone made of aircraft grade aluminum, which is as light as cardboard but as strong as steel.
:) you may have known that stuff already, but just saying for others.
NO sub exists that has ZERO cone "noise" when it is operating. Noise means "unwanted" sound! The reason it sounds like that is because the mic on the camera is picking up high volume low frequency sound that it cannot properly record. Few cameras can do so. Unless you're a proffesional with multi-thousand dollar microphones, you will probably never own one that can. The JL subwoofers suffer the same effect in real life, AND in Youtube videos. You sir, are simply a JL nuthugger.
@bigocampo Yes, 'noise' is unwanted sound. You shouldn't hear the sound of the cone, but rather the sound created by a given frequency response. And yes, I am a JL nuthugger, because I don't want unwanted noise or any sloppiness in my music. Fi is for straight SPL, and there is so much of a sacrifice in SQ, that they sound like garbage.
That statement alone is as biased as they have ever come dude. Your JL has no more and no less SQ than any Fi-Q. No Fi sub is the pinnacle of the Sq in car audio, but neither is any JL. If your statements were true to their meaning, you would not even be running JL. There are brands far superior to it. I should know, I used to run a single 12w7 on a JL-MHD750/1 and yes, I HAVE heard better. I guarantee you the FiQ is as good or better than any W7, provided its setup right.
@bigocampo Fi has a heavy cone, is therefore less sensitive and responsive and no innovation goes into their design... they are made for one purpose, loud bass with a high RMS power handling... give a JL much less power, and with the lighter cone, and elevated frame cooling, you'll get a more even response, at lower volume, running more efficient with more heat dissapated, with still plenty of SPL.. thats my take
Straight from JL's site: The use of these exotic materials is typically accompanied by marketing claims that the material chosen has exceptional stiffness-to-mass characteristics. These are true statements, but can be misleading. While these materials have excellent stiffness-to-mass properties (compared to paper or poly), they are not lighter than paper or poly in practice.
Tell me again that the paper cone Fi subs use is heavy... Please, do it and lie again.
If an Fi Q has a high RMS rating is because they're doing the same thing JL did with the 13W7. Big power, with big SQ. If you have a HO-SQ sub, its more likely to behave the way you want it if you have (A) a large motor assembly with large magnetic flux capabilities to control extreme mechanical force effectively (B) A very linear, high excursion, large diameter, high temp coil (C) A light/strong cone. Qs have that. Heat efficient? Damn right = Big Power, less distortion.
@bigocampo One guy just told me on this page that they are made of aluminum, and you say poly cone, which is it... just watch the above video and tell me again that it offers good SQ... subs with good SQ really shine in sealed enclosures, and this sub to me sounds horribly innaccurate and distorts rather quickly..... amp may be inproperly tuned though. thanks for posting the JL page, as it reinforces exactly what I said...
Someone lied to you. I didn't say they use poly, they use PAPER. Paper cones are one of the most widely used in the entire industry. Why? Because when it is formed, it is lightweight AND strong. They both use foam surrounds too. Anyway, YOU CANNOT JUDGE A SUB FOR THE WAY IT SOUNDS ON VIDEO! I just saw YOUR video on your W7 in the HO box and your sub makes the same type of noises too. The only way you will know what a Q can really do, is if you actually hear one IN PERSON.
@bigocampo Fair enough... I don't judge a sub until I hear one in person, with various types of music being played.. however, there's a difference between camera mic distortion and poor sound reproduction.. yes, the camera mic will distort no doubt, but even on my videos you don't hear the obvious distortion thats present in this video.. watch it again, and dont mention it and JL in the same sentence
Dude, just try and hear one in person, THEN tell me what you think. Once i've heard your REAL world experiece with it was still bad, then I'll leave you alone, hahaha. I've had my experience with the 12" and 13.5" versions of the W7 and I liked it, but I wasn't until I heard a single Q12 that I was impressed, not by how loud it was, but by how clean and fast it sounded and how little Fi's price was for it. One thing, just wait for the Fi-N1 to show it's SQ face.
@bigocampo Again, I agree... I read all this hype about JL, but didnt' believe it until I purchased one... I haven't heard any Fi in person, and its not fair to judge on youtube, even though I think the JL videos are free of the cone noise I'm hearing on this vid.. either way, once I hear one in person, then I'll decide... I am constantly researching car audio, and what materials are used by certain companies, and I just don't see anyone using innovation like JL does...
I guarantee you that your view would change if you actually did hear one in person. Just like JL had their engineers come up with the "W" cone and the other 6 patents on the W7, Fi had its engineers come up with a few tricks of its own: The N1, N2, N3, N-SG motor assemblies. You think JL's cone was innovation? Wait till you see what Fi is bringing to the table. I'm not an Fi fanboy, but I will defend a product that I have come to appreciate for it's services and value.
how many cubes is that box? that seems like a nice sound man. cant hear it but i give you props. i have two type rs(brand new) that im gonna hook up to a MTX JH1200...1200 rms. then after that i was thinkin about getting one of these. It'd have to have good sq though, not just bass. thats what the Fi Q's are for, right?
oh really? damn i didnt know that.. thought it was because of my box.. thanks bro its only bottoming out on low low notes though.. like for put on by jeezy
does it make like a slapping sound kinda? yeah fix it while you can. its not to good for your subs. im no pro or anything but they always say the gain nob is not a volume nob. just turn it lower until you hear the distortion go away
@7356205 They are two very different things. There is different kinds of clips as well. Like one is tensile leads "clipping" the cone making a very annoying noise
Since so many of you guys keep on asking for the track, I'll upload it tu my website and you can always download it from there :) (I dunno the title of that song since i only rip it from CD audio and lost the song track title)
@skaterking15 This sub should be a a ported box for sure but the "shitty noise" is the camera distorting the whole time in the video. If he was to have a better camera it would sound much better. Check out my videos.
u don't need a bigger box but your box sounds like it has some air leaks just go along all the inside seams with liquid nails and it should fix the leaking if their is any and i was high when i wrought that last comment.
I only say that because I bought an HCCA15" a few months back, broke it in, put a RF T30001bd on it and didnt like what I was hearing. Kind of loud, but not too efficient so wasn't all that satisfied. Sounds good, but not great. Just an opinion, not a mindless shit spit.
WOW!!!! I cant believe i read all these comments I chuckled a few times. Three things> One the box IS LEAKING!(JUST A SMALL ONE BUT IT MATTERS). Two I was looking into these subs and they are not meant for sealed boxes PERIOD!(I wont be buying one cuz i like the sound sealed boxes make)> Three what the hell is the name of that song thank you:) ohh yeah i think im gonna buy a orion hcca 12.2 for sealed box.
1. you are retarded, it clearly states on FI's website a recommended sealed enclosure for this sub, if they werent meant for a sealed box it would say "not recommended" next to the sealed box stat on the website, just like it does on the BL's and BTL's. And why the fuck would you put a hcca in a sealed box? THOSE are not recommendedsealed.
Ok DUSTIN! I think we are both wrong because on the FI site it says they are recommended for sealed and ported i guess i didnt scroll down to see the ported part. And if you talk to an orion tech they prefer u use a sealed box if your going to throw 4k watts to it which an hcca can easily handle. the only reason you WOULD NOT recommend a sealed box is if you were actually goin to competition we all know ported is louder and pushes more air, but on the other hand the bass is totally diff.
@SisctEN9NE he wasnt saying it wasnt for ported either he just said it is recommended sealed.hahaha not u but there r so many ignorant comments that i want to correct on this thing its best i just leave the video now!
theres alot of discuss on which box pushes more air, ive seen sealed push lots of air, and if yall think sealed sounds like shit then yall dont like listening to music that much
i would love to see when that sub ether rips it self from its surround or the whole dust cap catches fire get a bigger fucking box it sounds like shit and the clicking is the sub reaching its mechanical limits
All sealed boxes sound like ass in my opinion, without a port there is no return air flow..So it just sounds like to put one of those vibrating-ball toys in a cardboard box for bass.
Not true. I have heard plenty of sealed boxes sound pretty damn good. Mines sealed and it still beats well into the 20hz range, as well as sounding clean and clear in the upper signals. If you wan't SPL's ported is the way to roll, if you like clean "tight" bass for music other than rap, sealed is a good choice, since most can't meticulously build elaborate ported enclosures that actually sound good throughout the frequency range of a subwoofer. You need to hear a well built sealed setup.
Oh no, I've heard decent sealed set-ups. I prefer to low, dirty bass style you get from having a big fat port letting that extra air pump out of your box. I like tight bass for Metal and such, but if I'm going to spend my time and money on a system, it's going to hurt who ever sits in my car..=D
@jesseadkins187 A bigger box wouldn't really made any sub move much more. When you are running a sub in a ported box the deeper the port is the better lows you can hit. Check out my videos of my set up I have. I have a proper ported box lol.
@wilsonweed123 i know about tuning eddie... im just sayin you stick a sub in a 1 cube sealed box and then stick it in a 6 cube sealed its gonna move more....
@jesseadkins187 Well yeah if you go from a 1 to a 6. But from a 5 to a 6 or something around those lines there wouldn't much that great of a difference you know what I mean. Did this guy in the video say what cube his was?
@wilsonweed123 oh yeah well no just a cube you probably wouldnt notice but nah i dont know what his is in vid but check out mine you wanna see some good vid's
building boxes has nothing to do with a pole piece. i designed and built boxes for various systems, and i also know the actual parts inside a subwoofer. and swearing doesnt make you cool. im done with your stupid ass e-thugness
hey how do you like the q sealed? i'm lookin to go sealed cause i want the best possible sound quality. i assume it still gets pretty loud. so glad theres an excellent quality sub with a non-inflated price tag. thank you Fi!
why must we be so mean to each other lol. jk. my opinion is nice sub. and the q could be sealed or ported. dont matter which u want. its all in the persons likes. i personally dont care ported or sealed unless the sub requires a port like the bl and the btl.
wrong most spl sub on the market do want the box to be ported they actaully tell you not to seal it becaue it will hurt performance. some subs are actually made for ported boxes.
The BTL and BL lines ARE NOT reccomended for sealed. End of story. Go to a fucking forum and read on it before you all start saying retarded shit. AKMH and mikehonda23 were right, the rest of you are straight jackasses who know nothing of what you're talking about.
your subs is clipping so badly.

the Q series is good for both but its called a Q for a reason "SQ' the btls and bls sound better in ported though
JmasterJr 2 years ago
@SisctEN9NE he wasnt saying it wasnt for ported either he just said it is recommended sealed.hahaha not u but there r so many ignorant comments that i want to correct on this thing its best i just leave the video now!

SEALED ??
CREAMFILLEDANISH85 2 years ago
i would love to see when that sub ether rips it self from its surround or the whole dust cap catches fire get a bigger fucking box it sounds like shit and the clicking is the sub reaching its mechanical limits
victorprudeaux500 2 years ago
lol dude, your saying it sounds like shit? how would you know? all you can hear is the mic distort, lmao.
dragonwake13 2 years ago 46
All sealed boxes sound like ass in my opinion, without a port there is no return air flow..So it just sounds like to put one of those vibrating-ball toys in a cardboard box for bass.
EndingEscence 2 years ago
Monkeypumper420 2 years ago
Oh no, I've heard decent sealed set-ups. I prefer to low, dirty bass style you get from having a big fat port letting that extra air pump out of your box. I like tight bass for Metal and such, but if I'm going to spend my time and money on a system, it's going to hurt who ever sits in my car..=D
EndingEscence 2 years ago
lol well wouldnt a bigger box make the sub move more??!? so i dont think you know what your talkin about
jesseadkins187 2 years ago
@jesseadkins187 A bigger box wouldn't really made any sub move much more. When you are running a sub in a ported box the deeper the port is the better lows you can hit. Check out my videos of my set up I have. I have a proper ported box lol.
wilsonweed123 1 year ago
@wilsonweed123 i know about tuning eddie... im just sayin you stick a sub in a 1 cube sealed box and then stick it in a 6 cube sealed its gonna move more....
jesseadkins187 1 year ago
@jesseadkins187 Well yeah if you go from a 1 to a 6. But from a 5 to a 6 or something around those lines there wouldn't much that great of a difference you know what I mean. Did this guy in the video say what cube his was?
wilsonweed123 1 year ago
@wilsonweed123 oh yeah well no just a cube you probably wouldnt notice but nah i dont know what his is in vid but check out mine you wanna see some good vid's

that box has a leak in it
bob505470 2 years ago
and why do you say that
Krannyman92 2 years ago
look at the sub. when it stops, it moves upwards without power. that shows that some air is escapeing. look carefullly
bob505470 2 years ago
so? that doesnt mean that it has a leak.
Krannyman92 2 years ago
nvm youl never get it any way.
bob505470 2 years ago
hmm, and how would you know i will never get it? your dumbass wouldnt know a pole piece if it was right infront of you
Krannyman92 2 years ago 2
i would know because i build boxes, i know how to tell fag.
bob505470 2 years ago
building boxes has nothing to do with a pole piece. i designed and built boxes for various systems, and i also know the actual parts inside a subwoofer. and swearing doesnt make you cool. im done with your stupid ass e-thugness
Krannyman92 2 years ago 20
you actually swore first
hulbert87 2 years ago
since when was dumbass a swear. fag is worse.

well i guess it doesn't matter, but you did instigate the situation with the word "dumbass"

ThisIs2009 3 years ago
Would have performed and sounded better if the enclosure face wasn't square (18 x 18)
KhymeraB 3 years ago
actually no, a selaed box can be anyshape it wants to be the sub does not care as long as the specs are right.
TheEvilOne343 3 years ago 3
why must we be so mean to each other lol. jk. my opinion is nice sub. and the q could be sealed or ported. dont matter which u want. its all in the persons likes. i personally dont care ported or sealed unless the sub requires a port like the bl and the btl.
thehondaballer88 3 years ago
um, subs dont require ports, and if u want a good loud sub I would port it
masterwolf1212 3 years ago
wrong most spl sub on the market do want the box to be ported they actaully tell you not to seal it becaue it will hurt performance. some subs are actually made for ported boxes.
TheEvilOne343 3 years ago 3
I know. I just like ported, becuase from MY expirience with subs, ive always got best performance ported
masterwolf1212 3 years ago
The q can do well in ported or sealed.
The BTL and BL lines ARE NOT reccomended for sealed. End of story. Go to a fucking forum and read on it before you all start saying retarded shit. AKMH and mikehonda23 were right, the rest of you are straight jackasses who know nothing of what you're talking about.
newportcigarettes 3 years ago
no the q is the sound quality line of FI subs. Qs are made for both sealed and ported boxes.
