This whole iPad debacle is making me question what the world is coming to. This product really sucks and yet some idiots on major websites like Yahoo! are claiming that the iPad will replace the laptop computer.
As the video points out the web browser is intentionally crippled so that you have to buy apps to do what you can do for free on a real computer and the real internet.
I hope the iPad is a huge flop so that my faith in humanity can be restored.
I agree partly because i'd hate to think that people are buying a device that does nothing (even if they do it to themselves). Partly because i don't think Apple should be rewarded for making a big iPod with glaring flaws just so they can sell another copy next year (slightly improved) and again the year after

The iPad has a slower processor than my phone (Nexus One), less storage space than my phone, it is incapable of multitasking, it doesn't support flash (which is 75% of all video online), doesn't support java, requires a slew of attachments to plug anything into it, lacks a camera, and its the victim of Apples strangle hold which allows customers ZERO consumer rights.
When I see someone with an iPad i'll think to myself "look at that idiot."
Clock speed is irrelevant unless comparing the same processor; user experience counts far more. Nexus One, up to 32GB on microSD - iPad, 64GB. iPad has access to 100Ks of iPod/iPhone accessories. iPad is 'capable' of multitasking; iPhones since day one have had multi-tasking (phone, iPod, Nike+, one 3rd party app etc) it's just that Apple assess that currently it's not appropriate to allow multiple 3rd party apps (battery/system response). My consumer right is to have a slick and SECURE OS.
Do you actually know what multitasking means in the computing world? Multitasking is running multiple apps at the same time. If you need to close your current app to open another one, then it's not multitasking.
Also, clock speed means more than you think. The iPad and iPhone are slow pieces of hardware, plain and simple. That's why it doesn't allow multitasking like other phones with Android or Windows based OS.
Lastly, Mac OS is not more secure, just that no one gives a shit to hack it.
I used a Windows Mobile phone for 18mths and know what "multi-tasking" was like on that. My iPhone (used for 9 mths) only multitasks with certain apps as it's not jailbroken but is a far, far more useful device because it actually works as described. I lost count of the number of times my Windows phone didn't ring or crashed because I had another app open. I have two engineering degrees, one in electronics, so I don't need multi-tasking or clock-speeds explained; thanks though.

The thing that really gets me about the iPad is Apple's pathetic excuse for excluding Flash. Sure, banner ads are annoying and Flash can cause crashes, but that would all be solved with a tiny and simple script that blocks all flash until clicked, like Flashblock.
Add to that the fact that you have to buy separate dongles for simple things like a camera, USB, or SD, Apple's "we know best" App approval process, no multitasking, and its a no-buy for me.

Laptops, for example, can more or less do the same things as a desktop, but a lot of people still have and use both - because they each serve a different purpose.

There's no company remotely as successful as Apple at fencing in and shitting media-savvy, tech-loving people. And those people even take pride in being shat!
Their net profit margin is about 10% for the last quarter...not bad for a huge telco....they have a good 6.6% dividend yield too...but the stock hardly goes anywhere.....they are not making money off of it since they have to buy the ipad from Apple...gets discounted, and then they lock you into the contract.

It's like screaming out '...but aren't pants the same thing as shorts, just longer?! Why do we need both?!' - it's obvious why we need both, even though one is just the 'bigger version' of the former.

This video is funny, but I think a lot of 'naysayers' are missing the point of the iPad.
Laptops, for example, can more or less do the same things as a desktop, but a lot of people still have and use both - because they each serve a different purpose.
We will soon notice the same thing when it comes to laptops and iPads or smartphones and iPads.

Their net profit margin is about 10% for the last quarter...not bad for a huge telco....they have a good 6.6% dividend yield too...but the stock hardly goes anywhere.....they are not making money off of it since they have to buy the ipad from Apple...gets discounted, and then they lock you into the contract.
