I will have everyone know that this pianist played this piece incorrectly from beginning to end. The purpose of this piece is to train the pianist to hold down notes while playing octaves. In the words of Vladirmir Horowiz, "this piece is almost impossible to play as written." This pianist, for whatever reason, decided to take the easy route and simulate holding the notes by sustaining them with the pedal, defeating the purpose of the piece.
@callenishss While I would never insult the incredible talent of the virtuosi before us, I would suggest you find some modern pianists and listen to them. The main difference is the public following of these incredible artists; the skill and musicality levels are thoroughly comparable. Do your research first.
@thedudethatkilledyou no, the environment and paradigm of the traditional times gave rise to specific rubato and expression that somehow cant be reproduced in the last three decades or so
