She sews straight across the empty space inside a circle and then doubles back zig-zagging over that stabilizing line. Then she follows the circle around to the next spot that she wants to cross at and does it again. When she has several web-like lines crossing the empty circle, she sometimes will go into the center and start "spiraling" around connecting them all and creating a sort of "island".

I hope I get the chance to go back again & get a better video for everyone!

  • I wish I had better camera work too!! I didn't realize I would have the opportunity to have a mini lesson in this dying art - just went to her house for dinner with family and found out that she had this amazing talent. Putting together the youtube video was kind of an after thought. I'll try to answer some of your questions here:

The larger yarn IS couched over on the fabric.

The openings are cut out after the sewing around each area as they are created.

  • She certainly has a talent. Thank you for sharing :)

  • Too bad we don't have better camera work... would have loved to see more detail of exactly what she is doing. Is the larger yarn couched over on the fabric? How are the openings cut out - before or after the sewing? Does she sew a stabilizing line, and then the satin stitching? More captioning would be very, very helpful... That crayon thing?! Great information, but the delivery needs work! Thanks for showing... hope you can make it clearer!

  • Amazing work - thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you very much for sharing this; this is something I've been wanting to try and this was very helpful!
