The primary reason many Americans don't exactly take a shine to vegemite is that they try to eat it neat... Vegemite is quite strong, and even I as an Aussie who is used to the product much prefer to spread onto my bread or butter in such a way that it lightens in colour. When it goes from dark to medium brown, you've got the right mix of butter/margarine and vegemite and it's fantastic...
