It's not that Bane is a league below Batman in terms of hand-to-combat, it's just that Batman is the more skilled and technical-sound martial artist out of the two. Of course, that's from the comics. Who knows truly what caliber of fighter Nolan has made Bane into until we see the movie. However, from what I've seen on-set in Pittsburgh, Bane is a skilled monster.

Bane has always had a brain but 'Batman & Robin' and a few episodes on the animated shows did him no justice. Contrary to popular belief, Bane is genius and a masterful tactician. If fans were truly fans, they would be aware of it. Ignore the morons several comments below.

I think the Joker is overrated. He's great no doubt, but I feel Bane has MORE POTENTIAL that was never realized by anyone. Not even the comics. So Joker is definitely best because they utilized him...but I feel Bane could have been Batmans true archenemy if they actually worked more with him

Bane looks excellent aside from the joker who eventually kills batman in the comics bane is the only villain who comes close to finishing him from the looks of the trailer its following the comic story knightfall which will be fucking amazing at the end of the day you cant compare the joker and bane as they are 2 completely different characters i saw bronson and i think hardy has the potential to be a fantastic bane everyone burned nolan for picking heath ledger for the joker who was awesome

Don't know why all these folks are saying Tom Hardy's Bane won't be better than Heath Ledger's Joker... You haven't seen the movie. Wait until you see it before you start judging.
I for one think this Bane COULD be better than the Joker. Tom Hardy has A LOT of potential. I mean... Going into The Dark Knight, tons of people were iffy about Heath portraying Joker. Including myself. And he blew everyone away. Going into this movie, though... I'm thinking "AWWWW YEEEAH" about Tom Hardy playing Bane.

in the dark knight rises bane is a mercenary hired to take out batman. he exposes batman's identity as bruce wayne, and bruce wayne is captured and imprisoned. batman manages to escape and helps the military supply them with wayne technology to fight bane and his hired guns spoiler warning
