  • The musical motif Hermann so customarily beautifully uses is, of course, the Dies Irae (Day of Wrath), a Medieval chant in the Roman Catholic liturgy. Most haunting episode!

  • Where is the whole episode ? I ve seen it already on YouTube.

  • This was Lynchian before Lynch ever made his first film!

  • HAHA! I loved ths as a kid. Scaired the hell out of me and the guy at 1:00 is Slim Pickens. I still have the shotgun he gave my grandfather. :)

  • i remember watching this as a kid and that jar freaked me out.i always remembered this episode but never saw it gain untill a few months ago.creepy good.

  • Just wondering why your other clips from "The Jar" are only a few seconds long. Why did you bother? It's no wonder you have leaving comments disabled.

  • Green Acres is the place to be :0

  • It's Mr. Haney from Green Acres

  • Mr Ustis Haney

  • If that's true, then it is truly disgusting. People like that are less than human.

  • It is true and he was a creep.

  • Did he ever get arrested? He should be locked up if he is (was) a child molester!

  • PS. I hope you are able to overcome this. What a creep! Prayers for you.

  • Compulsive liar?

  • What a lot of familiar character actors in this episode! There's Pat Buttram of "Green Acres". There's Slim Pickens. There's Billy Barty (not in this clip). There's Jane Darwell, "Ma Joad" from "The Grapes of Wrath". There's George "Goober" Lindsay of the Andy Griffith show. James Best from "The Dukes of Hazzard", Collin Wilcox from "To Kill A Mockingbird (not in this clip). And William Marshall from "Blacula"! What a cast! And what a great story from Ray Bradbury.

  • cynthiacher Jane Darwell's last performance was in Mary Poppins.....the BIRD WOMAN

  • You can watch it for free on GUBAdot com

  • Thanks for that info - I checked the site out and you're absolutely correct!

  • Yes, it is Mr. Haney!!! and also it's "Goober Pyle" at 1:53 LoL!!!

  • I saw this when it originally aired. I was ten years old. I was home alone. It scared the livin SH** out of me. Thedy Sue Hill, omg, I'll never forget that name!

  • That Mr. Haney - always trying to sell something useless! But seriously this looks amazing! I can't wait till it's out on dvd. The thing in the jar reminds of of the one in the TV movie "Something Evil" with Sandy Dennis.

  • what is the music that is playing in the background? It is creepy!

  • The music is by Bernard Herrmann. The best film composer ever, in my opinion.

  • Yeah, only Elmer Bernstein came close to Hermann.

  • How come they don't put this on an easy to find dvd like the regular AH Presents? And I wouldn't want to see the remake..... I love the original cast, especially James Best!

  • I don't know, but I wish they would. We probably won't see it on DVD for a very long time considering they're currently releasing "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" one season per year and this series, "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", immediately followed "Presents". There are 10 seasons of "Presents" and they've just now released season 3.

  • This was redone in the 80s set in modernistic apartment. But now way could it match the setting and actors in this original version.

  • Wow, thank you SO much for uploading this! Did you tape it from TV? I'd love to watch the whole thing. Too bad it's not on DVD. I've always hated Pat Buttram's voice after seeing this episode. It always made me think of this show. (my brother can do a perfect imitation of his voice and IT scares me too! LOL)

  • it is... here's the website

  • sorry, for the flub... Here is the website where you can order both THE JAR (Original, and 2 remakes,) as well as AN UNLOCKED WINDOW (Original and 1985 remake...)

  • Not Burton's best work, but it's still great.

  • This is Ray Bradbury short story. Very creepy.

  • There's a guy here that is the spitting image of Henry Fonda.

  • You're probably referring to Sammy Reese.

  • I hope to find this, and The Unlocked Window, on dvd soon. As far as the audio being off, did you edit in mpeg format? It's notorious with some editors for causing problems.

  • No. I'm not very illiterate when it comes to this type of thing. Obviously. ;)

  • Man...this episode just creeped me out when I saw it as an 11 year old when it first aired.

"Betcha don't know where I have been,

    I have been.

    I have been.

Betcha don't know where I have been...

    I've....been...to...the...carn-i-val."

  • Pat Buttram (best known as Mr. Haney from Green Acres) in a dramatic role. Thanks for posting this episode. It has been years since I saw it.
