I saw Marillion at the Theakstons Music Festival near Wakefield in August 1982 supporting Jethro Tull. They were the first band on that day and got an encore - this was that song that got everybody going.
I was there too! with those two big Theakstons tankers at the back there! Excellent ..... and three years later saw them again with Tull supporting Marillion at Milton Keynes! How times change !
So was I! I got very, very drunk that day on Theakstons. The line up was Marillion, Huang Chung (who were awful and got booed off) Lindisfarne, The Blues Band and Jethro Tull. Great gig.
I'd never heard of Marillion till then but I became a lifelong fan.
Footage recorded at Marquee Club at the end of Dec. '82 by Jim Duffy (who later did "Recital"). 3 gigs were recorded for a full lenght rockumentary, which was never officially released. Mick Pointer: "The studio was next door to the Marquee Club and I know the gig was recorded and there were the TV screens in the studio itself, so there was obviously a video onto the stage. Obviously something was put down onto video."
This so cool. Kim Kronk took me to see Marillian in Soho, So I was at the '81 concert. Fish had facepaint. She new I loved Genesis and said, 'you have to see this band'. We went, I've bought and learned everything since from Marillion. On that night, the Marquee had (dont know if it's still there 27 years later) a low ceiling, it was hot in there, it was a good show. A bobby had his helmet takin in a scuffle in the street after the show. Good fun all in all. Where the hell is Kim? More
I was at the Theakstons festival too. It was a great day though some drunk bloke pissed down my leg! Yuk.
