  • you do thing this is bullshit people i bought 2 puffers from walmart and they are my best fish in the tank i bought some from a high dollar pet store and they die.

  • I just got one of these and I've come to find out that they are really hard to take care of, as well as expensive, if you get one you'll need at least 30 gallon per fish, and you have to simulate their migration from freshwater to saltwater when they're between 2 to 4 inches long, which is gauranteed to kill most any plant that they don't kill out of boredom.

Technically the one's at Walmart are freshwater...they're under two inches, though most are ready for brackish water in the near future.

  • There natural habatat is brackish and freshwater and many fishkeepers say it can go in full saltwater!

  • I have a large marble catfish for sale

  • cool

  • they are not freshwater fish at all. they should be in brackish when young then full marine when older. IF NOT YOU'RE NOT A RESPONSIBLE FISH OWNER AND SHOULD NOT OWN ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had 2 green spot puffers, but 3 months ago, one of it jump out the tank, die~ [Cry] feel so sad... now, I wish to donate 'her little partner' (2 inch green spotted puffer) to anyone who LOVE puffer & promise will take good care of her. • not frwashwater... but brackish fish ... is tetraodon nigroviridis and lived in brackish water

  • CORRECTION; THESE FISH WILL NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT SURVIVE IN FRESHWATER!!

  • haha yeah my fish doesn't even look ok in brackish... he looks healthy but all the time he swims up and down the glass and then he stops after he eats i feed him 6 times a week fasting him one day. i feed him raw shrimp, bloodworm/mysis/brine freeze dried, frozen clams, and sometimes live ghost shrimp, can't find anywhere to get snails looked all over. anyways i have a video of him, eating a little clam hes healthy but BORED have lots of rocks and bubbles!

  • tip on puffers. put a small peace of coral in the tank . not only will it buffer th ph but if thay bite on it it can help trim thear beaks.( only do this in a brackish/salt tank.) g.s.p will not thrive in a pure freshwater tank . just becous thay dont die dousent mean thay are well.

  • These are NOT fresh water fish. They will tolerate it for a time but need brackish while young and full marine as an adult.

  • these are not rare and are popular fish

  • Just because they seem to be "doing fine" in FW doesn't mean that is what they need...these fish live for about 15 years so doing fine for one year isn't much of a feat. And as someone already said..they aren't rare at all...one of the most common..millions are sold in the US alone each year. However they are wonderful puffers and very personable.

  • @hopscotchproductionz

not quite sure if they have walmart in malaysia....

  • Well, I've had my fish for a little over a month. And minus the gold fish, everyone is happy. And my water is 100% fresh, not brackish at all and the puffers are doing great.

  • @1verstreate1

Thats the thing, fish like people can appear happy even in terrible conditions. You have to understand a fishes life cycle in the wild to take care of it. Green spotteds are born inland and swim out to the ocean as they grow larger. When they are young they do OK in FW but after they are two inches they NEED some salt or they will suffer internal damage, slowly. I have many puffers and a few very old GSPs. Message me if you have any questions. I promise you you will need salt soon

  • I've had a lot of people tell me that, by all rights, they should be dead. I bought them from wal mart where they were being kept in a fresh water tank. And they're already 2-3 inches long. I have a cousin with a GSP he's kept in a freshwater tank for close to a year now. His is why I decided to buy a couple myself. But thanks for the advice!

  • @1verstreate1 But my sisters fish only lived 2 years and died. She would not put salt in the water or get a strong enough pump and filter. Also they must have small snails or their teeth will grow long and they can't eat. Big snails are too difficult for them. The snails should be just a little larger than their eyes.

  • @saharra22469 I know, my GSPs get snails along with their other food. And they're still doing great in in my FW tank.

  • um do you have to have a filter for a puffer fish or a heater?

  • @TheMonkyBuisness both

you have to have a filter for any tank and a heater for any tropical tank

  • I just bought two of these for my tank today...at walmart! $4.89 each. Living it up in a 55 gal setup with run of the tank. Since all else in it at this time is two plecos, two catfish and three small goldfish(which I'm getting rid of. They were my guinypigs to be sure the tank was cycled correctly before adding the fish I really wated.)

  • @1verstreate1

Plecos are not compatible with green spotted puffers. Green spotted puffers require an increasing level of salinity (salt in the water) as they grow and plecos can barely tolerate any salt at all.

  • im selling my fish and lps tank!

    fish for $4.99

    lps tank for $25.00
