jnotheman has an interesting point without realizing it. Both Bonham and  Meters drum master Zigaboo Modeliste were hugely influenced by New Orleans master Earl Palmer. Bonham's intro to Rock N Roll is admittedly pure Palmer. I have heard Modeliste speak about and demonstrate Palmer's influence on his playing as well at music clinics.

Sounds like John Bonham taught someone how to handle the bass drum :) This is damn funky! Especially the hammond organ which they use in a lot of their songs.

Sorry this is not the Meters,this Sam and the Soul Machine and the track is named Gospel Bird. I bought that Meters cassette and know they didn't have a horn section at the time. I found the re-issued lp a few years ago and even found a sample I used.
