Such a strange and unique brew of rhythm section on this tune. Killer snare-snap and wicked kick-drum and that bass, it's almost like the dude is playing backwards. Surprised? No. These cats always knocked funkified gems out the park. Ain't it good to ya....Hit it....Boom!
At first i thought this is just an average meters tune (not bad by any means) but at 2:16 i couldnt stop jamming in my chair. I'm at work, should propably stop this, ppl give me weird looks :D
jnotheman has an interesting point without realizing it. Both Bonham and Meters drum master Zigaboo Modeliste were hugely influenced by New Orleans master Earl Palmer. Bonham's intro to Rock N Roll is admittedly pure Palmer. I have heard Modeliste speak about and demonstrate Palmer's influence on his playing as well at music clinics.
Sounds like John Bonham taught someone how to handle the bass drum :) This is damn funky! Especially the hammond organ which they use in a lot of their songs.
@tomthefunky Come on man. Some user already commented on this, certainly realizing it was a joke, but it's okay man I dont blame you :) It can be hard to understand jokes or irony on the internet :)
@tomthefunky woah woah i dont believe you can get off call the hard rock drum great john bonham a faggot you cant compare funk to zeppelin there is too much of a difference
This, ladies and gentlemen ... and most Americans ... is real soul music. Feels so good, don't it? Makes all these stupid useless rap hip-hop jackwagons look stupid, huh? You bet.
Sorry this is not the Meters, this Sam and the Soul Machine and the track is named Gospel Bird. I bought that Meters cassette and know they didn't have a horn section at the time. I found the re-issued lp a few years ago and even found a sample I used.
Yes indeed boys, this is an excellent band.I can dig their music all day long.Drums and bass are tight with each other.I recommend their first 3 albums......Peace....a funky chik.

@jnotheman: And I love it when users on youtube think everyone is supposed to automatically "get" someone's particular sense of humor.
