First saw him in concert in Santa Cruz in about 1982m just when I was becoming a Christian. And wow, what a performance. He came to my church a few times to perform and I've cradelled his little boy in my arms as he was in Sunday service. He brought Carlos Santana one Sunday.
I saw him maybe in 1987, he had an all (white) female band in tights, legwarmers and hairspray. Guitar, bass, keytar, electronic drums. Looked like they had come right from the gym, LOL. Classic 1980s.
Does anybody have a video or song to post Leon did called "DANCE CHILDREN DANCE" ?? I loved hearing that song. I would love to turn people on to it on my Facebook. Thank you.
Leon is not just a singer...wait...Leon is also a great musician, keyboardist and a great Human but a shy one... Being, not ever wanting to be in the limelight..also a keymember in Santana from ´1974 -1975.
In 1973, Patillo joined Santana, appearing on the albums Borboletta and Festival. He remained with Santana until 1975, launching a solo career on Word Records. He released a string of successful albums on the CCM market in the 1980s, and had his own television show on TBN called Leon and Friends.[1]
Patillo founded his own record label, Positive Pop, in the 1990s, and his most recent releases have been on this imprint. Patillo also leads his own ministry.[1]
Somebody will probably read this and say "I was there too and heard that!", lol. Waaaay back I remember Leon at the Knott's theater doing a concert. After a while he was taking a few seconds of break and it was rather quiet as was about to start another song, and some girl shouted out to Leon "You're a blessing!", and Leon instantly said back "You're a blessing!". The girl responded "I RECIEVE that", and Leon smiled as he said "I receive THAT". That tiny interchange said alot. Still does. : )
Leon Patillo was the first Christian artist I saw in live in concert, he was promoting his Live Experience album, there is a special place in my heart for his music.
Wow... I've been a long time Leon's fan, specially like the music of the first years. Albums like DANCE CHILDREN DANCE, DON'T GIVE IN, I'LL NEVER STOT LOVING YOU and the great live show LIVE EXPERIENCE are among his best. I've always wondered if anyone ever taped on film the LIVE EXPERIENCE, that would be a sight to see. Thanks for sharing this video.
Tks 4 the post!! I luv LEON & SAW HIM OPEN FOR Amy Grant on her Straight Ahead Tour in like, ummmm, 1984? Great times....My mom went with us. Margaret Becker, Steven Curtis Chapman & Bebe & Cece Winans started their careers in 1986-7. Just a freebie factoid 4 ya...

My family has this album and several other Leon Patillo records (yes, records).
Listening, I think the verses fit better with the revamped chorus than the "beta" version here.
Hard to believe all the background music was from mostly synthesizers. Gotta love the 1980s.
