  • ive got to teach a bunch of 5-8 year olds this and the charleston but im only 14 and am finding it reallllyyyy hard to learnn ......

  • it would look even cooler if the chick was wearing a skirt....

it looks a bit boring or not as enthusiastic without a skirt if you know what i mean? (:

    but nice video!!

  • Slim Gallard is the guy in the gas station attendant costume you see playing guitar in Hellzapoppin'. There is a jam session with several musicians in their "day job: costumes that start playing. Whitey's Lindhoppers with Frankie Manning then come out and do one of the most famous Lindy Hop segments on film.

  • I don't think it's awful. It's the most helpful video I've found on YouTube!

  • Very helpful ! I catch on slow but i cought on fast with this !

  • good song

  • Good for basic lindy. Thank you!

  • täähä o iha paska video.

  • @iikkakonola voisit tehdä paremmin? en usko, kusipää.

  • this is a great lesson for basic lindy. great job : )

  • Thank you! Very clear instruction!

  • Thank you so much! I've been looking for a good 8-count lindy video forever. Every other video in the search results of "Lindy Hop" are 6-count lindy (a.k.a. triple-step East Coast Swing) which I already know.

  • Thanks for the vid. Even though I've been lindying for a while it's always good to review the basics. :)

  • Hey this is a very good explanation video, congratulations!

  • Audio poor -- can barely hear instructions. Fuzzy white noise.

  • Demo dancers, roll your pants legs up a few inches! How are we to SEE your footwork, with your overlong pant hems bagging over your feet? Common sense.

  • i like this video the best of the ones i've seen on absolute intro lindy hop. i wish there were more.

  • cute butt.

  • This is not basic. This is the next after basic

  • After basic swing dance last night, sis and I were inspired to learn Lindy Hop. I haven't had success with other online lindy lessons, but this one is the best yet :)

  • Thanks, also! Best Lindy Instructional video yet. After swing dancing last night, my sis and I determined to learn. And it wasn't that hard with ur help!

  • You are awesome teachers. Best on youtube. Hands down.

  • The Song is A-Well-A-Take-Um-A-Joe by Slim and Slam

  • AMAZING THANK YOU

  • This will help me a lot in my audition for the Zombie Prom play for school! Thanks!

  • thank you! This video is the most understandable of lindy hop instructional vids.

  • Not bad thanx, you could use better audio+video but yall made it work. :0)

  • nice vid. better audio would not of hurt, but you all were very thorough.

  • Very helpful video.

It's worth noting, that on steps 4 and 5, being on the balls of your feet will help you pivot more smoothly.

  • nice. good form. clear instruction. ty.

  • Anyone know the title to the song at the end?

    'Well-A-Take-Um-A-Joe' reveals no hits.

    thanks

  • The song is called "Well-A-Take-Up-A-Joe." It's by Slim and Slam (1930s band). If you haven't ever heard of them, they're amazing! You'll love their work =)

  • @vphargis Slim Gallaird and his bassist were a duo that was big in the 30a-40s. Slam ended up in a mental institution because of his drug use, but Slim managed to keep his career going. There is a boxset of Slim's material released in England, but available at better USA record stores. It's rather cheap because it's past the copyright date. Slim is the guy in the gas station attendant suit at the start of the "Hellazapoppin" dance sequence. He's on guitar before the Whitey's dancers come out.

  • @YelloObelisk It's actually listed in the credits ;-) But yes Slim and Slam are amazing! I highly recommend some others by them: Jump Session, Look-A-There, Flat Feet Floogie, and Potato Chips.

Great video, I taught someone Lindy last night and this reinforces everything I said :)

  • You guys teach the material well! Thanks. I needed a refresher, it was easy to understand.

  • This video is very educational, thanks for putting this up here! It's sometimes hard to hear, but the instructions are informative.

  • Any guys attempting to impress a girl with some simple swing: learn this! It works wonders; as long as the girl you're trying to impress isn't already a magnificent dancer. Put on some soft jazz and teach her this basic dance if you really want to convince her into that first date.

  • @LupusSolivagus Big band music and stuff like Bobby Darin and Louis Armstrong are also good music choices for swing fyi :) (LOVE Bobby Darin)

  • @LupusSolivagus waltzing works even better! just put on some frank sinatra, waltz and you're all set

  • It's a perfect balance of detail and simplicity. You clearly define the critical components of the dance, which is all I need for now. I love it...one of the best on youtube I've seen. Thanks guys!

  • Yeah, much better than the others out there. Thanks for posting a *useful* video!

  • Most informative one I've seen so far, Thanks!

  • Actually, this is better than most of the Lindy Hop basic videos on youtube - there are some god awful ones on here. Just remember that we mostly don't actually step back on 1. :-)

  • Good advice, thanks for posting the video! Found it quite informative. Now I have got to get out there and practice me some Lindy Hop!

  • it is the best one!...ill be watching it again and again! thanks!

  • this is the best video teaching the lindy basic that I've found so far! Thanks.

  • nice work - appreciate your sharing with us !!

  • this was actually quite good it helped me alot!

  • I'm glad it came in handy =)
