I have all the his albums, including the most recent Dyad 1909 which came out in December 09, but this song doesn't seem to be on any of them. I am completely in love with it and would like to purchase it, but where can I find it? Or will it be made available soon (I assumed it would have been on Dyad, since this video was uploaded in 2008)? Would someone care to shed some light on this?
I'm kind of disappointed at the percussion. It seems like the super ambient band cliche to throw heavy drumming in as a climactic move. I think at this point it's so DONE that it took me away from the song.
Apparently people don't like it when someone says something critical.
I still think they make beautiful music, I just think it was a bad move to use the drums in that way. They'd probably be better off excluding them all together.
You definitely have a point, it's a fairly common way to use drums. That being said, just because it's a common move doesn't necessarily make it a bad one. I really liked the drums. The heavy percussion contrasted to mellow strings cliché works for me almost every time, but that's just my taste.
The percussion adds to the epicness of the piece. Without it, the song would build up like every other string quartet. Give it a fair go. It seems as though you are being critical based on your personal view of what you consider good. I think it could be critiqued better from other perspectives. This is classical meets pop. Not classical! (from what I've researched anyway). And yes, it is amazing!
The problem is; with the drums it builds up like every other neoclassical/minimal/ambient group. More importantly to me though, all you wrote essentially summed up to "people have different opinions." Of course I'm being critical based on my own bias...that's kind of how it works.

Who told u this is post-rock?! This is bunch of emotional violin solo, with relatively a cheap and hollow percussion... I can't categorize it as post-rock in no way :)
A pretty precise question! I have never wanted to classify this music az a certain genre! But the term POST ROCK usually refers to those pioneer bands like Talk Talk and Tortoise, while from 5 or 6 years ago if i could still remember, bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai, The Evpatoria Report, 65daysofstatic, Mono and the other fellow musicians gave different concept rather than just using noise and distortions, power riffs and all those stuffs to the experimental music.
Thus, nobody could truely categorize it under a defined musical style; Therefore they named it as Post-Rock, which originally derived from the principles of "postmodernism" definition. Anyhow, the noise that i've been listening along from 5 years equipped my ears and many post-rock fans, which has allowed us to practically determine it's genre automatically.
According to this track i would better say experimental music is not an emoional violin solo, even if you use it in a regular basis in music rhythm. Cello, Counter Bass, Violin and all these instruments are part of the track, not the entire texture. They are the atmospher of music, while lead guitar guides the music apparently.
Those things are my self experiences about a genre which I have never meant to call it post-rock...
I understand you. You're referring to the first bands who formulated the styles that started the genre, instead of the more far removed music classified as post-rock. I agree with you then, when I look at it from your perspective.

Gosh, I love the Icelandic language! Sounds almost elvish! Haha.
This song is great. The drums and bass give such a fulfilling sound to this song!
One of my favorites by him.
If anyone wants to know more music that's as beautiful as this, I have a good list built up here, with audio posts to some songs to listen to;

What is post-rock to you? Post rock is a very broad term that is pretty much inadequate as a genre label.
