How to update to Android 2.2 Froyo on the Galaxy S

I'm going to be getting a samsung predesent on Straight Talk running android 2.2 is there gonna be a way to upgrade that to 3.0?? Kinda like how you can upgrade iOS

well my device wasnt the right one its the samsung galaxy s captivate from at&t and at&t sent me a message to update my phone to andriod 2.2 (froyo) and iv never done any other updates but yeah kies 2.0 dosnt support my device and it says my device is SGH-I897 a little help?

what does this mean?

does it matter what the numbers are? cus when i search on google, I get alot of different numbers, so im a little bit confused there :)

The version of Kies i had was 1.5.0 so i updated it and it gave 2.0 something and then it said the version of Kies I had wasn't applicable with my galaxy s (samsung captivate). What should I do?

hi stacey...i just want to ask if any version of kies is applicable to this..? i've seen some version of kies that was used to download 2.2 is lower than what i've found in the net which is i think latest ver as of now,its ver 2...i'm trying to upgrade my phone and i think this vid will help...

@larsalexanderson this video was made a while back, so there is probably a new version of kies now :) always use the latest version

@larsalexanderson when you download kies, froyo should come with it :) if you're phone is elegible for upgrading as soon as you plug it in you will get a notification in the kies window saying that it is ready to upgrade

@14shandon most things you try to download will say this. Its just a warning. If you know you got it from a safe site go ahead. I got my kies right from Samsung.com.

I have the samsung galaxy s.. And its on 2.1.. I have kies.. and downloaded it.. I rooted everything to the computer and done it all.. But the 2.2 update isnt coming up.. So i click firmware update and it says its already been updated.. So i go onto my phone and see the phone isnt updated to 2.2.. I go to about phone and see it says 2.1(update1)

I need help getting 2.2. please can you inbox me how to do this

@sejo78 no its not, had to convert the HD file to a flash movie file type and the subsequent compression took the quality right down

@Brunoxtr ahh great stuff, 2.2 is soo much better...it isn't entirely necessary i did find that it helped greatly with the lag issues i experienced after upgrading though...just back up all your stuff if you do though :)

@Seductive84 hey sorry took a while to get back to you, have you definately got the correct version of kies? if you have it might be worth uninstalling then reinstalling again...if that doesnt work let me know and i'll look into it some more :)

@normajeann heyy yeah i would recommend it ...reset one of my galaxy's and not the other and there was quite a difference between to two. Make sure all of your data is backed up :)
