For those of you that dont know, this course has probly around 40 meters after the finish line before the rocks, so that's why they had to hold water immediatly after finishing. it totally sucks, the last thing you want after finishing a 2k is to have the oar slamming into your chest

And a note to the cox: I don't care what everyone else is saying about your coxing, some of your methods may be seen as "unorthodox", but I use this very video to get pumped up before every one of my races, and I row university varsity. Your voice is authoritative, commanding, and inspirational. I'd be glad to have you at my stern any day.

@livvyworthen13 what diffrence does that realy make I cox womens crews all the time and have won most of my races as a cox with womens crew. realy its only a bit of a traid of between a a lttle bit extra weight or a good cox that will put in the work to get to kwow the crew and get them pushing hard in races.

mmh, not bad. nice technical style, im going for irish junior cox this year. So it's good to see what standard im at. I've 5 years behind me, so i also disagree with pcosten. it's much better to let them know the splits etc than shouting where other crews are. Nice line btw, was very 2nd nature. Only thing i would do disagree on would be not to count down untill the last push for the line. But it's a trival matter and when ur crews pulling a 1:23 split it dsnt really matter ^^

nice work cox, fast boat, i reccomend a little less counting and more technique/rating/meters calls. Repeating long sentences with long words is frustrating and i recommend not doing that. screaming can be good and bad, yet i think it was decent.

I coxed last year. Whatever you do, DO NOT LET THE ROWERS BOSS YOU AROUND! If they do, tell them to shut up and focus on rowing. Also, don't be afraid to scream when racing. Get into it! It'll get the rowers motivated. If you speak in a regular voice, they'll get bored

Dont become like the cox on this video-too much information, totally useless. Althletes like this fantastic crew dont want to hear all this crap.  Give information that is needed-where they are in relation to other crews, timing, balance, rhytm. Identify the problem, correct and them compliment the athlete. I get my coxes to give commands with the rythm of the boat. I have also found in races its best to say how far you have gone and not how far there is to go.

@pcosten What? This cox is doing just fine. He IS calling out very important information but he is also keeping things from getting quiet. From my experience, rowers dont care what is being said between calls as long as something is being said and they know what is going on so they dont look out of the boat themselves or just think about how tired they are.

very good video... i really liked as a coxswain myself to have to captions right here to see what a more experienced coxswain would call. the one thing other then we count the calls up and not down is that my crew likes me to keep my voice more under control to get the rhythum down, then get loud near the finish or when we move on a boat

excellent coxing, our crew dont do countdowns(otherwise there is a letdown after 3, 2, 1) and also other crews might pre-empt it. but still, damn good, 6 27, thats 3 seconds from our 2nd VIII in National SChools regatta, and about 20 seconds off our 1st VIII.
