  • My drive is SSD. PWNED!!!

  • @MKwan82 relax, so does like half the world.

  • my hard drive makes 2 different noises but it usually sounds normal one noise sounds similar to a couple u played but to me it sounds like a drill sorta and the other sounds like a squeak

  • My hard drive growls at me sometimes. :( Kinda like @3:11

  • strange thing is that I used to fix harddrives that made the sounds......memories, I'm talking things like western digital 5 and 10MB hardrives, way back then. most were BER, some could be recovered, those sounds are very real and very I was there!!!

  • My hard drive just died :( no joke I got it replaced on January an got a 750gb hdd and died in 4 months

  • I went to live.gigigigigkikkikkik and it said opera can't find server

  • my computer is a month and i've heard that eeeeekk sound :(

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • 2:50 it sounds like a phaser from Star Trek.

  • Hi, you know how to restar a mac pro, when you're reinstalling the mac softward

    program

  • I've had the psycho click. XD

  • I loved the end......

  • when you get old, your hard drive will start to malfunction. :D

  • I actually used a HDD with a ball bearing failure for 6 yrs.

  • holy $hit i think im being hacked!

  • Why dose a 60 MB hard drive from the 90's last forever and new stuff dose not last for shit???

  • @Tacocat21 not being racist but I believe that it is because it's made in China.

  • @Tacocat21 ¡ʇıɥs ǝɹɐ ɟɟnʇs ʍǝu

  • lol on my old hdd it made the POP POP POP POP POP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP and den it died.

  • I 've ha my current internal HDD for almoste 5 years, never failed me so far and still going strog....altough I have a External HDD almost a year old....and it's already starting to faii.....both are from the same manufacturer

  • Is this true? Does mounting damage the hard disk? Please tell me, I am getting a new hard disk, and if this is true, I would rather extract the files from the ISO than mounting them.

  • I had the second sound on my laptop :"( let it of 2 days then unstaled vista an instaled windows 7 an it still works XD

  • data moving is good for the hdd

  • well we had a laptop runing windows me and it lasted 8yrs no clicking mint condion the laptop was retierd after 8 yrs and the hdd 3yrs after when it fell life span more tha it should have yet it did

  • Does anyone know how to fix a Hdd?

  • @SHAGGYSPAGECHANNEL No. and you can't. If a hard drive is dead, its dead.

  • I have a western digital from 2004 that was clicking. I finally got the data off it after a few tries. I then did a full format not the quick one and it's working fine. I think bad sectors can also cause the heads to hunt and formating sometimes helps. It's been working for a few months fine but I got a spare just in case.

  • lol people in the chat are retards lol

  • the way you described cycle clicks sounds like what mine was doing... the only thing is the sounds are NOT LOUD at all. to hear it i'd have to put my ear against the portable hard drive. it is not backed up either. all that happened was i was viewing video clips i shot on it while connected to my laptop.. the program froze... i unplugged the hadr drive and suddenly it can't be found when i plug into PC's. should i expect physical damage to it for this reason? what are your thoughts?

  • I had a Western Digital 3.5" HDD that made that first sound while trying to load the OS. I also have a Hitachi 2.5" HDD that is just over 7 years old and still works fine.

  • chat fail

  • i got a hard drive from 1995 that still works perfectly.

  • you will also hears any of those sound if you have bad sectors

  • Comment removed

  • I've heard most of these sounds... makes me cringe

  • if your computer makes Any noise that's irugulae contact your beartest geeksnsb

  • i should have bought a mac

  • cost to much

    just get linux or windows.

  • @democracysupport my macs hard-drive only lasted 2 years

  • this has only happened to my WD's. never have my maxtors, seagates, or hitachi's ever failed.

  • I've got a 12 year old 10gb hard drive in my 2 year old PC and it's still going strong ;D

  • I haven't had this happen yet, but I've always heard to stay way from Western Digital drives because they are low grade components (same thing with dells).

  • I use an old failed drive as a coaster for my coffee mug on my desk.

  • W7 rocks! It actually warns you about possible HDD failure!!!

I'm backing up a 1T HDD right now, because W7 told me it might be failing...I've also been using that same drive on an XP machine too, but XP never warned me about any possible failures. Thank God I installed W7 onto one of my machines, or it may have been too late to do the backup before failure.

Yay only approx. 18 hours to clone the drive left. Hope it doesn't fail before then!!!

  • my hd failed while watching this video

  • oh god, the clicks freak me out. It happened to me before and all my data was lost. (after this, backups were regular)

Horrible time. Definitely learned my lesson about keeping multiple updated backups.

  • happan to me

    still recovering

    reply for details

  • I didnt had any of those noises i dont have any sounds but when i bought my pc almost 2 years ago i had NO SOUND now....when i listen VEEEEEERRRRYYYYYYY carefull:P

its very hard to hear but then u hear a sound like a old pc loading:P

So... is that bad?? cuz im worried

  • No need to worry. Basicly if your hard drive is about to fail in between 2 weeks, these sounds will be loud. Its normal that your hard drive is starting to make more noise its on every hard drive. They get old, like people. When they get old, theyre perfomance is lowering. My hard drive is about 1 year old and it already makes scratching noise sometimes.

  • Games on your hard drive puts very little extra strain on your drive. These things are accessing millions of files a day, if they're going to fail, they're going to fail, whether you're using CD imaging or not. How you use it simply decides how it'll probably fail.

Example, a drive that's left running, but rarely accessed, will likely develop bearing problems.

A drive that's accessed the same areas constantly is likely to get bad sectors.

A drive in general use... you'll know when it happens.

  • hey lockergnome does it matter if i insert another brand

of intern hdd on my laptop

will it also matter if it is a higher amount of memory

  • nope

  • If you never turn of your computer and have a 7200 rpm drive, those disks are turning 3.8 billion times a year. It's amazing that they last so long.

  • I want thoughs sound files for my celly

  • is there any softdrive. muhahuha

  • floppy drive...

  • my xbox360 make the click one but in random paterns is that failure or normal?

  • yeah i had bad luck, i was installing windows on my computer and i rest my foot on the top of my computer, and the computer crashed and there was a yellow light flashing on the tower, it only stopped after i unplugged it, then when i turned it back on my hard drive kept clicking, luckily i had another hdd, but oh no!! when i pulled out my installtion disk it was CRACKED and didn't boot! shit, and this happened last night, now i need to find a new disk.

  • Those noises were scary!!

  • Yes hard drives do make those sounds. But I have had cooling fans go bad on me that also make the same bad sounds. Saddly I have experianced everyone of those sounds you played first hand.

  • i got that there cycle click son

  • This is of course old info; the uncited Deskstar failure recordings are from when S.M.A.R.T. was first brewing, on longitudinal-recording medium-GMR heads with completely different sense amps. Image drives should last 20 years if bearing vibration (from a train or laptop wankery) is tolerable.

  • I have the monitor on the right!!

  • My iMac G3 makes the last sound. Oh well, its 8 years old! Good lifespan.

  • Maybe There is a Virus or Spyware in your Hard Drive.

  • I need to replace the PCB on a Barracuda 300 GB drive. Any idea where to find a replacement board?

  • this guy is insane .. lol... and so is his dog lol.... maybe it's because of the living experience

  • You sounded like Chewbacca on 3:34! XD!!!

  • o shit my comp makes the last sound

  • crispybacon100, back up your files....really.

  • will do

  • my hard drive not reading any cd how can i fix this can any one help plzz

  • hard drives dont read cd's. HArd disks are METAL, not PLASTIC!!!!!!

  • lol my first pc did the ball bearings problem

  • I would assume any noises coming from your hard drive/tower is a bad thing. Mine sounded like there was a freakin' feudal war going on in there, when the monitor came on, it was dumping everything. D:

It was scary, lol. Nothing as creepy as a DOS screen putting up names of every single thing it's erasing for good D:<

  • any1 help i cant acces my hard drive on my laptop it say no hard drive detect but i check all wire on it its gud i dont no wat to do? can you help me? i cant install new windows...plz help

  • I have a hard drive from around 1990 in my Macintosh SE... still works beautifully :D

  • That's typical Apple :)

  • my laptop hard drive makes weird screeching noises for about a second. it does that every month, im sorta worried about it, but about a week ago, it made that same sound for about 2 seconds and then it sounded like a fax mahine for about 8 more seconds. should i do something about it?

  • yes, back it up immedially and then seek pro help

  • games read off the hard drive anyway right? They only read the data to verify you have an original copy. i don't think just burning data on the drive will harm it much.

  • my moms has the whoo click, whoo click, whoo click and does not boot, I laughed my ass off.

  • mine clicks on the startup then it works fine...

  • 3:09

  • mine clicks twice, then pauses, then clicks twice again >.>

  • Great ending lol.

  • I was paying more attention to the chat than the guy talking.

  • ok 3:30

  • lol also 3:32

  • lol 2:49

  • Some of those sounds are scary to me... I'm such a geek.

  • lol bet this guy hasn't been layed in a while lol

  • He's married you retard

  • win.....

  • Umm... what if the error checking doesn't work? when i clicked on it, it froze and won't open the Error checking...

  • Is anyone actually reading the comments at the bottom of the vid? They're funnnnnnnnnnnnny...

  • i thoug it was a fail video

  • This one the call the ray gun. *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAHM*

  • Nice comments there..

  • an actual sound

    lol

  • the comment below will tell you my comment

  • The comments below the video are hilarious.

  • this Computer 's HD is fine

  • They will fail at the very beginning or the end of their lifespan, what a muppet. "That's A actual sound of a hard drive", nice grammar. These are sounds of hard disks failing, if yours makes these sounds "it's likely" your hard is failing. what else would it be.

  • "what else could it be." You need a capital letter and a question mark - What else could it be?. Nice punctuation!

  • OMG OH NO! THE WORLD WILL END! OMG§!"

  • I had mine sound like starting a 58' chevy from a junkyard. Lost everything

  • rofl!!! would loved 2 ov heard dat!! gutted bout ur data loss tho :(

  • lol I just experience a HDD failure, & I'm currently backing up my data right now. I'll be uploading a video about (just for rants). Thank God for bootdisks

  • my imac g3 has had the same hard drive for 10 years

  • fuck, im always moving shit around.. i love editing videos and when i do im always moving and doing stuff with tons of different files. And all of a sudden.. my computer wont boot past the "Windows Logo" without restarting.. i was rlly hoping i wouldnt have to go through this. i have to much shit on my hdd that i cant afford to lose.. and now im fucked.

  • If my hard drive would make any of the first few sounds, I'd duck under my bed and wait for the explosion.

  • LOL! Likewise, I would dive for wall socket and then hide behind my duvet or some shit! D:

  • Why would you hide behind a duvet or "some shit"

  • hahaha, i think "shit" would provide good cover against an explosion lmao XD

  • mine lasted 1 year then it broke :(

  • my HDD is making the noise from stargate, fuck, i hope its only a incoming wormhole

  • whenever the power go's out, when it go's back on and i turn my computer back on that last sound comes up, should i be worried or is that normal

  • Comment removed

  • you know whats strange?? my uncles old thinkpad from ibm has a 20gb HDD. ( he still has it) and the thing has been going for like 12 years. its awesome.

  • if my harddrive ia making odd noises, is it failing?

  • Don't call nice IT guys/girls 'local geeks' xD

But yeah, people should be careful with their HDDs with something spinning round 7200 times per minute, something is bound to break eventually. So all be sure to make back-ups!

  • Lol, My computer hasn't made that sound what so ever. xD

Still have it to this day. It's about 6 years old. Western Digital. xD

  • I have always had problems with Segate HDDs, but not with Western Digitals and Maxtors.

  • 3:43 lmfao is my hard drive made THAT noise I would shit myself..

  • mine was doing that for months, then all the clicking noises, then finally died. Luckily I backed it up.

  • Hi Chirs, I have a Toshiba Satellite, I'm not sure if I fried my hard drive or what, but the power light comes on and then off on my hard drive. I attach it as a usb device the usb port recognizes the drive, but doesn't show up on my computer. Says Generic Void usb device. What does this mean?

  • my hard drive is making the loudest grinding noises, its going to fail any minute!

  • Heres my 2 cents.. If you are that lazy to switch cd's over and over again.. then you should go outside..really. But only time it would be a good idea to do this is if you are letting someone borrow your cd/game.

  • When it comes to copying games to the hard disk, it really depends on the size of the game. The larger the game is, the more data the system must retrieve, and because of the size of newer games this puts the hard disk under very intensive pressure.

If you're gonna do this, I would only recommend that you do this with small games. This way, it saves the hard disk unneccesary pressure and gives it time to cool down. I've heard that's meant to prolong the drive's life.

  • i got my drive 7years and ticking... its set as backup drive now... backups every day... 120GB :)

  • I have windows vista. and i just got a warning saying hard drive failure back up your files immediately. Is this for reall? I play games alot. Alot of the time i leave my computer on. I install alot of games. games that require alot of memory graphics. Is this a computer hard drive fialure? and if it does fail will i have to buy a new one? or does it make me start from scratch?

  • This laptop I am using right now is pretty crap... only 55.5gb of memory on the hard drive. It's been going for 6 years now. The computer is slow-ish but it's bearable and I've never actually had any problems since I bought it. I'm hoping for another year or two of service yet and I know she won't let me down (that's how you know I'm a nerd, I'm emotionally attached to a laptop).

  • maybe someone could help,i know quite a bit about computers but,my internal hard drive failed on my emachine w6409 i have it all backed up on wd/my book external harddrive 1t/b,i baught a sata 500 gig internal drive my question is how would i get my windows xp media cener edition back on the 500 gig and fix it to where it will boot up and work, thankyou very much any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • did you try puttign the HDD in and installing it than put the re-install windows XP media center disk into it than egt all your files you backed up

  • This exact thing happened to me about 5 days ago. I had been writing a novel for over 2 years and had thousands of words of essays etc for university. I am DEVASTATED and petrified that the data can not be retrieved. whats the latest with you?

    YSF

  • Oh shoot, I forgot to ask. I have been having problems with my Hard-Drive as far as gaming only. I am pretty sure it shuts off because first my game would freeze with the sound looping and then no response after that.

The weird thing is that it happens to only a few of my games. The last time I checked it was only Call of Duty 4 and Zombie Panic! Source. What do you guys think?

  • Oh the horror...the horror... I can't take it anymore.

  • i have an 8 year old toshiba hard drive and it failed las week, I gave it a real flogging so I am not supprised it died.

  • lol mine just died I think the screen fell on it too hard and from there one it went haywire.

  • I had clicking before when I was moving my computer around. I ran health checks and it said it was in good health.. eventually it stopped making these sounds and everything is fine now :).

  • I have a question... I think my hard drive failed and i was wondering what caused it. I play games on my computer like guild wars online mmorpg and was wondering is that the reason why my hard drive failed?

  • No, probably not.

Hard drives are likely to fail if you spin them up and down a lot or if you shut them down improperly too much.

Also, games are always installed to hard disk already. Games usually only want the CD to verify you're not pirating it. Which of course, you are anyway :D

  • Great, thanks for replying :)

  • His hard drive has given up! xD

  • yaaa my harddrive is ok!!!!! well my dvd rom is dieing when i put a disk in it sometimes it makes odd noices but it happens very rarly =D

  • why don't they just make drives solid state- then we would'nt have these damn problems.

  • I've had a hard drive last for 10 years, and it's still running today.

  • do you use it?

  • Yes.

  • When im working on video editing an i try to move the frame slider around i hear the click.

  • I have a 15 year old Apple Macintosh PowerBook 540c with

a 300 MB Hard Drive and never Failed

  • No Musical Maxtors :(
