Training cats is so rewarding. It's great having a pet, but being able to do activities with them and see their progress makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Check out my videos, there's a whole training course available for novices.
I am using the Citykitty tray for my two 3.5 year old boy cats right now. They have been using the tray for 10 days now and they are already at ring 1 and half of ring 2. I found that putting the litter more toward the front of the tray and leaving the back bare gets them to aim in the hole better. Also, instead of removing an entire ring at once it's best to do half a ring every half week. At their current rate of learning they should be completely trained within the next 3 weeks.
I did half rings too. It goes fast at first, but you may want to slow down when the opening gets bigger. Whatever toilet you train them on is the only one they'll use in the house too. Good luck!
It's a psycological thing. The Aplha gets to leave his on top, as a territory marking, so therefore the more submissive cats bury theirs to stop it smelling.
do dogs do that too? if they're alpha they don't bury? both my dog and my dog before never buried their poop, they just kinda glanced at it and whiffed then left as if to say "ew".....lol
I'm toilet training my cats at the moment. And I'm just using a plastic salad bowl. It cost 2 dollars, and it's doing the trick nicely. started off with it full of litter which
I slowly decreased, and now I'm slowly raising the level of water in it. I'm 1 week in and already, I'm more than half way done!
Oh good, I'm not the only one who's been at this for 3 months! I thought my cats were being stupid or stubborn, or both. I've taken the inner bowl out now and sprinkle a little bit of litter on the edges of the toilet bowl. They definitely want it flushed after the other cat goes. I have to keep my eye on them and constantly coax them into going. We hope to move in a month or so. I hope I don't have to do this all over again!!!
I only cut out the holes on the weekends when I had the chance to keep an eye on him. If I forgot, I'd just wait until the next weekend. I don't have to coax him at all. I'm thinking of installing an automatic flusher so I don't have to deal with it at all. With the money I save on litter, it should already have paid for itself. Good luck!
next trick: teaching them how to flush!

cats "bury" their crap - that's what they do - they're cats

In this case, humans are the alpha.
Plus it's hygeine fitting of a cat.

Wait a minute, he's not trying to bury it anymore - he thinks he's the alpha! Damn kitty! ;-)

I've tried this with three cats. It was always my human housemates that couldn't learn, not the cats.

Great!!!! How long did it take you to complete the entire process? I started today and really desperate towards the result!!!

It took about 3 months, but I probably could have done it faster. Just wanted to minimize the accidents. Citikitty - I swear, it's awesome!

That's not the seat, that's a litter pan in the toilet & he doesn't need it anymore. Right in the toilet w/ no accidents. He's a good kitty.
