It's not about the difficulty of the drumlines, it's all about the feeling, man. Good drumming has nothing to do with speed or difficult drum patterns, you have to put the right feeling into a song, to harmonize with the music you're playing, and that's what Ringo did. Not many of todays "good drummers" could perform a beatles song, the way ringo did, eventhough his drumlines may seem to be easy. Also it would be a fucking honour to replace Ringo at a gig, noone gets bored there.

I love Brain as a drummer, he really is something, and I would kill to have one jam session with him. But I prefer the kind of ambiant/atmospheric sound Tim can give to Primus's music. It's a totally different conception of drumming, one is based on the groove (Brian), the other one on some kind of overall texture, I think (Herb). It's hard to explain, but that's how I see things. And I find great that Primus actually experimented with different drummers.
That's Les, and it's a stick with a bass string on it that has a handle at the top to change the tension. Not sure if it's an official instrument or anything. But "A stick with a string" is close enough for Les to do some crazy stuff.
You know the amazing thing about this guy is the was he is able to write dtum parts for Les' insane riffs.....Compare Wynona's, Eleven, Over the Electric Grapevine, sgt. baker....they are all different and awesome....this guys awesome

@RipshawKlavicus I play bass and every metal band I've been in has wanted me to play root notes with a pick instead of showcasing my skills. Guitar almost always outshines bass, even when I was better than some of the guitarists.
@militantofthewilling Sometimes you just have to play for yourself, which is made even more difficult when you can't just do what you feel. Stifling your own talent to make it fir the bill kind of defeats the purpose of playing music in the first place, and I completely understand where you're coming from. The real ticket is getting into a group where everyone can flow independently, but at the same time work as one. It 's a balancing act for sure, but it's completely worth it when it works out.
Tim is by far my favorite drummer. however, i've never felt that his most amazing drumming comes out in his solos. don't get me wrong, this absolutely blew my mind. but i think the way he drums in the context of primus's songs is where he really shines. every fill, every beat is placed so perfectly within the song. he is the master of explosive subtlety (if that makes any sense). pay attention to the fills in "groundhogs day" and "prof. nutbutter" and you might understand what i mean. Doesn't need to be outsandingly technical to make him my biggest influence and favorite drummer! This solo is one of my favourite drum solos ever just by the fact that I've been waiting for a real long drum solo by Tim for such a long tim until Hallucino Genetics came out! Doesn't need to be outsandingly technical to make him my biggest influence and favorite drummer! This solo is one of my favourite drum solos ever just by the fact that I've been waiting for a real long drum solo by Tim for such a long tim until Hallucino Genetics came out! This is completely how I use to imagine him soloing before seeing this...... except for the add of delay and the ringmod!

most guitarists can program drum lines as creative as the nile material with the EZdrummer program. George is great, but this guy and a handful of others are the guys of this generation of music who really "get it" on every level.

@pcrumlish Dave Lombardo is far fucking better for them. and while were on the subject of Metallica, the whole Rob Trijulo thing makes me mad. His talent was put to much greater use in Infectious Groovs/Suicidal Tendencies than Metallica

i completely agree with you but am wondering, how can you not include danny carey and brain? danny carey is better than herb (imo) and brain is just as good in a different way. im not trying to take away from herb...he's insane. but having the opportunity to see both him n carey live, carey takes the cake. to be able to see his drumming explains why, he's constantly shifting focus much like peart, only hes a way bigger guy so his set's more spread out. oh...and what about bonham?
