@BluePittbull666 If you where about to be gang raped by a bunch of thugs, would you really go to the ground to fight? BJJ and MMA is very good for one on one, but useless if attacked by a gang.
This is an awesome art for those attackers that blindly, recklessly, and with no skill just run at you screaming with theirr arms outstretched. It will be great when the zombiepocklypse comes.
his aikido was more prototypical compared to the aikido we usually see nowadays. Pre-war aikido was deadly, even if you believe it or not, I am not saying this outta the blue. Tough internet fighters and analysts, go try him and then comment.
I understand they are "jumping" to prevent getting hurt from the techniques, but if your opponant didnt co-operate, would they still flip over and land on the ground disabling them? I mean, they move at 1:34, the uke just seems to fall over when he "moves out the way"
If you had no choice but to fight, would Aikido disable your opponent and prevent injury to yourself against someone who is actually trying to physically harm you?
@Judasbm no they would not flip over. They would get dislocated in either their wrists or shoulders etc... depending on which part of the body was aimed. I know this because I work as a prison guard in Singapore. Aikido is a requirement for us, our flight crew, special forces and some SWAT units.
Believe me, in a prison riot, you wouldnt want to go down on the floor and do MMA while in the middle of an unruly mob.
Firest try and then speak; I can say, without knowing you, that you seems to be stupid ! Just from what you demonstrate (write) here ! Each martial art have his paractical part and the "poetic" part . The man create the art not the art. The art improve you as a human.
had the honor of having my ass handed to me yrs ago by sensei...i was a terrible uke im ashamed to say. It was all Dr Fred Haynes' fault as he pushed me into it. The saddest part of watching these videos is the wicked humor he had and shared is sooo true, yet he makes things so easy it is hard for ppl to believe their eyes.
@solpapisolmook You should educate yourself on the subject more. Japanese military and police were trained by Shioda Sensei, and aspects of Aikido are the principles of most tactical self-defense systems. Bas Rutten made a similar comment not too long ago and has since retracted it, stating he was discussing the dancing type dojo practice he has seen, not the applied martial art he knows more about today.
@Kasayka Really? Can you please provide a link to Rutten's retraction? I will make one of my own if I can see that. Rutten is someone who knows more about fighting than you or I put together. If he really said that, I'll defer to him. I don't think he did say that.
@solpapisolmook As a young man, Shioda sensei used to fight with gang members to test his techniques. If you for for example, sweep a persons foot the instance he believes it will touch the ground, anybody will fall very easily and with very little force, and he will look ridiculous for being taken down with so little force. This is an oversimplification of the principle of Aikido. Shioda sensei is a master of timing, it's not the technique itself, just the right action at the right time.
@Devoti There is no "right time" in a street fight. Street fights are fast and uncalculable. The dojo presents a very controlled situation, which is nothing like the street. Shioda also trained in pre-War Aikido, which was much more brutal than the shit Aikido that's taught today.
@solpapisolmook yes, of course. that's why aikido focus on deciding when and how the attacker will attack, by subtle manipulation of reactions. when it happens to you, you for some reason can't seem to do anything else than what he wants. can't have people stomping each other in the dojo, they would get crippled instead of healthier. complete focus on street fighting is stupid, because your mind and body gets ruined. focus on getting happy and healthy, or else you are just compensating for fear.
@Aur0rah they needed to be "Uke" or Aikido practitioners...this is why they know how to fall and not be seriously injured. In a real life situation they wouldn't flip, etc. they would suffer dislocations, etc. and fall hard on the floor.

Brazilian jiu jitsu or MMA are the most effective combat systems ever.

It's not hard to believe at all, especially considering his "opponents" feed him their wrists and arms so he can pull off those fancy moves.
Aikido is a joke of a martial art that works in the dojo but would get you killed on the street.
