There are a number of flies that will work this time of year - most guys go with small bead head nymphs - but I'd recommend my newest streamer pattern, the Simple Sculpin. You can see the video for how to tie them on here or just go to my web site to order some. They have accounted for more large trout for me this season than any other fly, as well as bringing keeper size striped bass and some nice largemouth to my line.
I have met you at saluda shoals on the dock thingy. I finally got a fly rod and was just wondering what color/type of fly should I use for trout or bluegill?
I caught a 25'' smallie back in 2006 that weighed 5 lbs on my digital scale, but didn't have a camera with me that day. I did have to think about whether or not to hang it on a wall, but in the end I decided to let it go so someone else could catch it.

With the smallmouth? Yes.
