i have one of the camcorders i am very pleased with it and i keep dropping it because i am very clumbsy it still is perfect and could take a fall from around 4 foot maybe
How durable is this camera? I only want a Panasonic SD based camera because they either shock proof or shock resistant. I dropped a Sanyo Xacti once on accident and It stopped working.
How good is that in camera in low light? Its aperture is 1.8. My Canon Camera has a 2.6 aperture and it works OK in low light. I could get a Sony Webbie HD camera for $200 but it has a 3.5 aperture. I don't think the Sony Webbie would perform good in low light compared to my Canon or another camera.
Well, it's all plastic construction and very lightweight so not eaxctly robust. But given it is so light and has no moving parts, maybe dropping it wouldn't be so bad. But I'm not going to test it out... ;-)
As you can see, panning around the bedroom only lit from table lamps, it does ok in low light but regardless of the aperture, the lens is small and so only so much light can get in, and it is always going to be marginal quality.
It seems to be a bit stranger than that actually. As far as I can tell, and I could be wrong here but I don't think that I am, it records the video file as 640x480 but changes the internal flag for the aspect ratio of the pixels. So these 640 pixels get stretched across the 824 needed to give 16:9 by whatever movie software is playing back the file. As such you are actually losing quality horizontally, not vertically.
You know, I have actually stopped using this camera so I can't say for sure but it's not that great, about an hour and some depending on how much zooming you are doing.
I have moved to a Canon FS-100 and get about 2 or 3 hours of battery life with that camera. Ultimately the slightly larger size was worth it in terms of useful life.
but after you uploaded this to youtube the quality was reduced, so you cant really see the full potential of the camcorder. it's a very nice camcorder. I have one for myself. I would never get an HD camcorder right now anyways because my hard drive is not big enough for what I use camcorders for.
If anyone is looking to buy this, it's a great product and I would recommend it.
No night vision but it does have a standard tripod mount, which has a plastic thread (but given that the camera weighs almost nothing, that is not really a problem)
And in what part of Sweden are you? In the early 90s I lived in Stockholm and Goteborg. Och sa, jag talar liten Svenska, men bara liten. As that sentence should clearly illustrate... ;-)
Sweden is NOT a good place to learn Swedish I discovered; everyone speaks such amazing English there is little impetus to learn.
So far the sound quality seems very good. I haven't used it at a concert or anything like that which would be the best test but for conversation and such it's very nice.
would you recommend this camera to me, I've never had a camcorder before and yeah... I need something that looks o.k on youtube but isn't expensive!! would you think that the camera would suite me? And would you know of any other camcorders that would work for... oh yeah and in the description you said something wrong with it being imported to a mac or something... (not very good with tech) cause I've got a mac and yeah.. Well thanx =),
So yes and no (sorry). It's a good camera, the sound quality is excellent and the image quality is very good, image stabilization top notch and good zoom. But the files are MPEG2 and Quicktime does not play MPEG2 natively. You need to buy the MPEG2 codec from Apple. And even then you need to convert your movies before you can edit them in iMovie. I am a software tester so that's fine for me but it may be a bit much if you are not a techie. PC users will be fine out of the box though.
And so other cameras? Well, the other one *I* have is a DXG-569V, another HCSD camera but a HD 720P one. It was much cheaper and can record High Def but has no stabilization or optical zoom and has mediocre sound. But it records H264 native which plays directly in Quicktime and can just be dropped into iMovie without conversion. The images are sharper than the S7 and the stills are great but the frame rate is slower and fast movement causes lateral tearing of the image. It OK tho'

So it's an ok camera but I prefer my Canon FS100.

What happens when you record in 16:9 mode?
Does it downgrade the video to 640 x 360? Thanks.

One spec sheet says it has enhanced low light I read.

Does it record closed? I am considering for boxing day and want to us on the motorcycle etc because of the no moving parts.

And yes, it does indeed record closed, or rather you can flip the screen around and lay it flat to the body with the screen facing outwards.

Does it have night vision capabilities? Also is there the ability to put it onto a tripod?

when u zoom is it clear? i just bought it and i was wondering.
ballparkfrank10 3 years ago
Yes, it's pretty clear. But you do lose some clarity. Not too terrible but the images gets a bit softer.
Jayembee1 3 years ago
is the loss of clarity like easilly seen? or do u have to focus somewhat?
ballparkfrank10 3 years ago
did you use the wind cut
notinbutimprov 3 years ago
You know, I can't remember for sure. But I *think* that I did because I was a little surprised by the amount of wind noise there was in the clips.
