I saw Lassiter lose to Mosconi in Burbank, CA on Magnolia Street around 1963-64. The score was something like 150-19. Also saw Cowboy Jimmy Moore, Onofrio Laurie, Irving Crane and Cicero Murphy in that same 14.1 Rack World Championship Tournament. Willie was the greatest ever!
Goodness, did I love to play on those woollier cloths - youngsters just don't know what they're missing. Of course they wore off more quickly, got bumpy or loose, but still, memories... Listen to the round robin format standings mentioned by the commentators, too - those were still real championships, no way to just get lucky and win by a fluke.
Thanks for posting. Two of my boyhood heros.

From what I gather from the commentators and reading between the lines of what they said, I have to assume Murphy had a 111 ball run.

They don't grow Wimpy's or Mosconi's anymore....they were first class guys that's for sure
I met Wimpy 3 times at my dad's pool room in Norfolk, VA and he was a very humble man.......you would never have known he was 6 times World Champion
